Watched a little of the Hawks-Lions game before I fell asleep.
Too bad season is getting canceled/postponed. This is a really cool game.
What I was watching before was some form of Rugby I guess. This is a game of it's own. But that's a huge field they play on. Loved all the elbowing and pushing, lol. Typical Australians I guess?

If you even tolerated Rugby League... you MUST watch Rugby 7s. You MUST.

Rugby Union is slightly different and 15 a side is a slightly worse spectator sport than league but Rugby 7s is absolutely amazing and even better, USA has a team that is competitive (so do England, France, Canada and a lot of other countries 2p2ers are from). Every single person i've convinced to watch a Rugby 7s tournament loves it. Plus, I print at like 10% roi on it granted it's not a highly liquid sport.

AFL is quite fun to watch too. I enjoy Rugby League but games are hit or miss like individual NFL games, some are excellent and others can be boring.

Sorry we could only hold an extra week to keep you entertained

Hope some of you loaded Newcastle which I posted in thread, should have been -200 after watching the game

Aussie sport is actually high roi to bet on compared to American sport (i bet on both), it's liquid for me as an Aussie but not so liquid offshore or in PPH books I guess. I make about 5% on Aus sport and 3%ish on USA-based sport on average.

Anyway hope you all enjoyed your brief exposure to Aussie sporting codes. Who knows we might be back before the American ones even though we're a week behind or so in the pandemic because our healthcare system is better and we had enough warning for some social distancing, although it's obv gonna hit everywhere so who knows

3/4 not bad

Sorry on the behalf of Gold Coast residents (where the Titans are from) our sporting teams really suck. I went to about 25-30 matches last year or so across three codes and our local sides won 4 or thereabouts between NRL AFL and Cricket

I’m curious, how common was that scoring flurry at the end of the Hawks-Lions game?

72-56 with like 4 min left and then it looked like the end of a college b-ball game, with Hawthorn getting a bunch of easy scores when the game was out of reach.

Back in the 1800s there were a bunch of different village ball games in England with different rules. One of those became soccer (association football) while rules from the town of Rugby resulted in the sport of rugby football. In the US, rugby basically developed into American football (line of scrimmage was originally a scrum, also known as a scrummage, touchdown was from when you actually had to touch the ball down, etc.) but outside of North America it stayed rugby and one of the big issues back then was amateurism. The Northern English teams were working class and wanted to be compensated for time missed from work. The richer Southern English clubs didn't want that so they split and over the last 115 years the rules have diverged to the point that they are different sports and players have mixed success in switching between the two. The new, professional version was called rugby league and became popular in Northern England and Eastern Australia (NSW, QLD, ACT but not VIC). Rugby union stayed amateur until 1995 and is the more popular version in the rest of the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, South Africa, New Zealand, Japan and in the English speaking South Pacific. It's also the more popular version worldwide, even in places where it's relatively small. These forms of the game also have variations with different numbers of players. Rugby union is typically played by 15 players, but has a fast-paced form called 7s with 7 minute halves and 7 players a side on the same size field. There is also a rarely played form with 10 players. These essentially have the same rules with very slight variations (drop goal conversions in 7s vs place kick conversions for example). Rugby league also has a shortened version called 9s. But they are really just two different sports with minor rule variations for shortened versions.

Big swings in scoring is quite common in AFL since the accuracy vs lack of makes the difference of 1 point vs 6 per scoring shot

These games are slightly delayed (equal to just over 3 quarters of a normal game) so for like a 140 total here it's a 170ish total in a regular game

In a normal game an 'average' score might be like 13.11 for 89 vs 12.10 82 or something

But if one team kicks 20.4 and the other team kicks 15.7 for example, that leads to a 124-97 scoreline instead of 89-82 with the same number of scoring shots. Similarly, if both teams kick inaccurately, a score of 8.16 64 vs 6.16 52 leads to a scoreline of 64-52

So seeing an 18 point quarter or a 70 point quarter isn't super uncommon even if the 'average' points per quarter is something like 42 (or with the shortened quarters average might be say 35)

And yeah if a team gets blown out and breaks down mentally wouldn't be super uncommon to see a game where say 8 goals are kicked in the last 12 minutes of play or something, or the inverse of that only say 1-2 goals in the last 12 minutes

Games with 230 points or sub 100 points are uncommon, but do happen (just check some historic scores on flashscore or something if you want to see the sort of variance you get in the totals)

In rain affected games the scoring is much lower

This

The main versions are Rugby League and Rugby Union. AFL is not a form of rugby it's a different type of football the same way NFL for example isn't a type of Rugby.

Then there's Rugby 7s, which is an international 7 a side tournament version of Rugby Union (it's super fun to watch and soft lines to bet on) - the games are quicker and tries are scored very quickly due to fewer players being on the field. Imagine a 7 a side NFL game for example and how many more points would be scored vs 11 a side or whatever. It's very fun.

and Rugby 10s and Rugby League 9s are niche formats of Union and League respectively that are played about once a year in a niche tournament format usually in the pre season with less players and shortened games.

As he said, Rugby League is popular in Northern England and Eastern Australia and the pacific islands.

Rugby Union is popular in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK and Ireland, France, Argentina, Japan, the pacific islands and a few other countries plus has smaller followings all over the world

Rugby 7s is huge in Fiji, South Africa, New Zealand and a few other places and has more of a following than regular rugby in the USA and Canada. It's 10 annual events are held in Dubai, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Hong Kong, Singapore, England and France. Whoever scores the most competition points between those ten tournaments wins. The three best teams at the moment are Fiji, New Zealand and South Africa with USA, England, France, Australia being the next tier who win tournaments semi regularly then Samoa, Argentina, Canada, Ireland, Kenya, Spain, Wales and Scotland making up the other 'core' tour sides and Japan (who got relegated last season) will probably return next season as the favourite to be promoted from the second tier. Then there are a ton of second tier countries who will be competing for promotion as well (one side gets promoted/relegated each season)

Wales are probably going to get relegated this year, and a side like Japan or Chile or Russia or Germany or Tonga will most likely get promoted.

In Queensland and New South Wales, Rugby League (NRL) is more popular, in Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia and Tasmania AFL is more popular. Rugby Union (Super Rugby) and Rugby 7s has a moderate following everywhere but isn't the biggest code anywhere in Australia, although Rugby Union is the biggest sport in New Zealand and possibly in South Africa and Rugby 7s is the biggest sport in Fiji

UFC is still looking to hold UFC 249 hopefully in a closed venue. 1v1 sport could be fine as long as both fighters and the ref are tested the day before the fight and the judges can all just sit apart from each other

Esports is still on and other than that we're down to weird niche sport from Russia or Belarus or whatever now.

One of my locals is running over/under lines on the weather. Seriously.

So ****ing cool, what limits they allowing? How does that even work? Temp to hit 76 o/u? 2 inches of rain fall o/u?

Not sure re limits. I do know off peak hours they tend to accept larger bets but itll vary a ton and depend on the trader you get how aggro they are on approving action above the base smaller limits. My personal account there is long dead, obv I have people who can place bets there for me, but not a weather expert so not getting involved
