NRL and AFL going strong for now in Australia although AFL quarters have been reduced from 20m to 16m and the season from 23 to 17 games anticipating possible cancellations, not sure if that will last but NRL especially seem desperate to continue. On quite a few spots there for this weekend.

Dana White saying he'll find a way to make UFC 249 happen but the next few events cancelled

Hong Kong and Singapore 7s pushed back to the end of the year and Super Rugby on hold for now

Cricket seems to be paused everywhere, cancelled the PSL semis and IPL will prob be delayed but we'll see

NRL probably care less about player safety than any league in the world in any sport so it's no surprise they're going to carry on.

Why did AFL shorten the quarters? I don't get that one, but it's interesting for totals.

The Turkish league and Australia soccer still seem to be running as far as I can tell. A ton of games scheduled to go tomorrow.

Anybody have any news on Aussie rules rugby. I've watched some games on YouTube and the game is starting to grow on me.

Aussie rules (football) and rugby are two different sports. And rugby can mean a number of different sports: rugby union and rugby league, with quite a few variations between the two (7s, 9s, 10s and this dumb rugby x thing they tried).

Well there were lower level games in Brazil and Chile the day of the post, but yeah everything suspended or offseason now. Thank you for the update/correction.

In other bad news, Japan’s basketball league got suspended again, until April.

It's Australian rules football not rugby - Rugby League is a one sport, Australian Rules football is another, and rugby union is a third different sport (super rugby is paused atm)

What do you want to know I bet it a ton

Catch it on the full for kicks over a certain distance its a 'mark' you get to kick it like a free kick

Through the middle posts is 6 pts, side posts or touched on the way through by any defender is 1 pt

Have to bounce the ball if running with it more than a certain distance and if you get tackeld with it it's a handover

If you're passing the ball you have to punch it with your hand to the other player or kick it, you can't throw it normally

It's actually a really good spectator sport

NRL and AFL both going on as scheduled today with empty stadiums, come gain some appreciation for Aussie sport my American and European friends

Let's go Penrith/South Sydney today (I got -3.5 and ml -110 respectively personally but Penrith games started and Souths price gone)

Actually, once you understand the rules bettor,it's not a bad sport.
Now I understand better why there's no heavy tackling like the NFL.
Once a guy gets tackled, he has to give up the ball. It's still amazing with how little protective gear those guys play.
Yeah, thanks for the tips. I'll be taking you up on them in the future for sure.
Maybe you can start a Aussie Rules thread?

I'm not realistically going to start an Aus sport thread and post all the spots I take, just take better prices than topsport.com.au it's the sharpest book in Australia because it accepts winners so Aussie syndicates get on there etc - betfair price is a fine indication too of where the lines should be closer to game time. Beat the betfair lay price and you'll be doing fine. If you have Pay Per Head books or whatever their lines will be soft, or random offshore books. Granted the limits will be low at non Australian books for Aussie sport but if you're just looking for small stakes action you'll do fine there.

If you're gonna bet NRL/AFL at whatever your locals are just look to get better prices than the topsport/betfair novig line and you'll do fine - betfair doesn't have NRL though due to a falling out between them over fees. Topsport's much sharper than Pinnacle for Aussie sport, because since Pinnacle left the Aussie markets they've drastically lowered their limits on Aussie stuff

So yeah if you don't have any info about the sport just nail slow moving lines on steam and you'll be fine + will get some sweats

FWIW i'm on Essendon -14.5 and unders ranging from 144.5 to 149.5 (above 146.5 is altlines though w more vig) for the first afl game today and Canberra -9.5 for the first nrl game (that price is long gone) and going to take some Canberra score first lead at half time and win prop at -105 as well

Not going to make a habit of posting regularly but yeah there's always value to be had somewhere, hopefully Aussie sports make it through Corona but I feel like there's a high chance we lose them in the next couple weeks as Corona gets bad here we're a week or so behind America's timeline and a couple weeks behind Italy etc

Swoop, that was a ton of information already.
Thanks for sharing it.

As far as covid 19 and Italy go, I'll be brief with the off topic, from what I've come to understand, it got so bad only because a large part of the Italian population at first dismissed it as hysteria and didn't take any precautions, like social distancing, for instance.
Sounds familiar to some people here in the States!

Anyways, hope it doesn't come to that down under.

Swoop (or anyone with AFL knowledge)
I know it’s pretty rare, but what are the rules for OT and how bets are settled if it is tied at end of regulation?
Can’t seem to find the info anywhere.

For example, most seem to have like

North Melbourne +100 (2.00)
St Kilda -120 (1.83)

But topsport has

North Melbourne 2.00
St Kilda 1.82
Draw 46.00

How would these be graded if it’s tied at end of regulation? Do they play overtime if it’s tied?

Thanks

There is no overtime in the regular season which it is now if it's a draw and you'd have to check with your books rules some will be dead heat rules others will be void and money back if it's a draw. Any book showing a 3 way line will lose on draw but the Aussie books show a 2 way line typically with either money back on a draw or dead heat rules

If you see a 3 way line treat it as -0.5

NRL on the other hand does have overtime in the regular season with next score of any kind wins rules.

Lions vs hawks will be a good game tomorrow hawks have come in from 3.5 to 1.5 and are at home but the lions are a better team and younger and hungrier, hawthorn just came off an era of dominance but had ageing stars and are sort of rebuilding as a mid table team, the lions were a wooden spoon team for a while but made the finals last year for the first time in ages and lost in the finals to the sides that made the grand fin from memory

I don't have strong opinions on tomorrow's AFL games I do like an NRL side but not set for my own action yet I'll post it before the game tomorrow if anyone cares for AFL I'd just trust the steam and pick it off at your locals whatever those may be before the line adjusts

Both of tomorrow's AFL games are competitive and close on paper so fairly attractive to bet as opposed to some of the one sided lines we've seen. West coast tomorrow are the exception as big favourites they tend to have a big home ground advantage but who knows if it'll be as big with no fans Melbourne have a decent squad but are perennial underachievers with a losing culture obv that is reflected in the higher spread in that game

If there's enough demand I'll do a basic write up for next week's NRL and afl games along with my personal leans and any bets that I take along the way once I'm already on

There's also one Women's AFL semi final. The games are shorter hence totals being lower and obv the skill levels are lower as the women's professional league has only been running for about two seasons and they expanded a bunch of new teams year

Tomorrow's schedule is 2 NRL games, 3 AFL games and 1 Women's AFL game - you can see the list on Flashscore etc for when it's all on

If you have a VPN for an Australian IP, there is an app called Kayo that is pretty cheap/good coverage of everything including non aussie stuff when all sport is back which will show all of the matches for all Aussie sport

Let's hope our players can stay away from Corona and keep the world entertained for the next few weeks/months

If anyone can get on Newcastle at anything close to -110 -115 it's solid in the NRL/Rugby League (thats the spot I wanted yesterday; loaded up myself @ -110) i'd probably go til -120ish and pass after that - I personally think they should be about -130 as the true price.

Hawthorn steaming in too afl, not sure why as I have been busy getting on Newcastle; Brisbane a better side but Hawthorn at home/maybe players out for Bris or something haven't done the research

gl all

Nice win for our North backers here, did you guys watch the game? With less than a minute left, a St Kilda player managed to nail a kick that was going to go through and win them the game and the North defender made a ridiculous soccer goalkeeper style smother to save it and hold on to their lead
