Re: MMA Thread

Seery has an awful record, 13-10. Granted most of them came from the beginning of his career.

Some fighters get better, Mark Hunt's record was so bad the UFC didn't want him

Seery's just a better fighter than he used to be obviously, he's not going to win the title but he's definitely UFC caliber, i'd expect him to roughly win half lose half in the UFC

BJ Penn is only 16-10, if Seery wins his next couple fights...

Re: MMA Thread

Seery looked really good he's got solid boxing be interesting to see how he does against a striker that can utilize kicks better. Another win for the Irish.

He is not a striker. I guess working out with Alexander daily have some upside though.

Re: MMA Thread

Because he's a good striker and wrestler, unbeaten in the UFC and his opponent is a japanese can

Honestly i'd probably be more surprised if he loses than if Gunnar or Conor do

Starting to feel like we can blanket smash all UFC lines on favourites to arb later if recent cards are a trend that holds

Added .5u on Brandao at +450

Mcgreggor is certainly the favorite but the hype has effected the price too much

That was seconds away from being stopped

I probably should have fired Parke despite the price but whatever he's in my parlay

This so much.

Honest question why is Connor so great? Has anyone seen him do anything against any decent opponents to make you impressed?

Me neither... he's great because the UFC/media says he's great. If he was really a phenom like Jones he wouldn't have 2 losses on his career. He's no super athlete and he has to work for everything he gets... so why as fans should we treat him any different and think of him as great when he hasn't shown us anything that stands out.

Re: MMA Thread

He totally dominated Max Holloway in what Holloway does best and Holloway is only just outside top 15 (i'd guess around 20)

He's unproven as a top 10 guy but he hasn't done anything to make us think he isn't a contender either

Re: MMA Thread

Ugh, had the o2.5 this was probably the worst defense I've ever seen on the ground. James Toney-esque, why would you go fish for takedowns if you get pounded into oblivion every time. Parke is such a feather fisted fighter, but once I saw the end of the first and how bad Kotani was from the bottom I realized it would probably be over if Parke realized he could easily take him down and pound him with little resistance, was just hoping Kotani wouldn't clinch him so early. Just layed there like a dead fish after the takedown that led to the finish... pathetic.

Re: MMA Thread

Good job by referee to to give the japanese fighter a chance there, he was blocking shots but wasn't improving position after around 10s.

I don't think most regular fans have bought into the McGregor hype, the ones who have are just casual UK/irish fans probably who listen to his talks. He seems like a top 15 fighter, but if he's a top 5-10 remains to be seen. Even this brandao fight won't cement his position (if he wins). He'd need to fight a more wellround top 10 fighter before we can say anything about his chances as a contender. It's also because UFC doesn't have that many talkers (unfortunately), and he's got a fighting country (Ireland) behind him that he gets a bit extra say.

Re: MMA Thread

Putting a last second unit on McCall at -149

I like Pickett more as a fighter but I think McCall is going to beat him so EV > being a fan of Pickett's crazy walkouts and stuff

Brandao is borderline top 15 myself if McGregor wins impressively I think he solidifies himself as a top 15 fighter and earns a shot at a contender in Edgar/Poirier/KZ/whoever
