I have three distinct boxing memories.
First was watching Tyson knock out Spinks in 91 seconds. We were watching at a local horse track where they had it on PPV. Still one of my favorite boxing knockouts. Tyson was unstoppable at that moment in his career.
The second was making one of my first ever trips to Vegas in 1994 to see the Roy Jones Jr. vs James Toney fight. We had such a great time that whole trip and I cashed a nice bet on Jones.
The last was the time my brother-in-law and I ventured into a pretty nasty part of Philly to see fights at the Legendary Blue Horizon. It was mostly local pugs fighting 3 rounders, but Bernard Hopkins was the headliner pretty early in his career. What was awesome about that place was that the upper level seats were basically right above the ropes so you were looking down into the ring. If you spilled your beer you were at Rick of soaking the cutman at ring side. Such a great crowd and a good time. Bonus was my car didn’t get stolen.
