Huge lack of experience? Robert Drysdale has fought in the UFC (undefeated in MMA) and has coached the likes of Forrest Griffin, Frank Mir, Randy Couture, Dan Hardy, Evan Dunham, Brad Tavares, Joanna Jędrzejczyk, Vitor Belfort, Wanderlei Silva, Kevin Randleman, Phil Baroni, Kevin Lee, and Joe Stevenson.

This isn't a lack of experience at all. This is the default for the vast majority of all MMA coaches. How often have you seen coaches stop UFC fights in situations like this?

This is actually not really the case though and is a big problem with the "throw in the towel" system and why it is virtually never used. A coach is primarily focused on winning the fight and that goes in direct conflict with the fighter's health and well being. It is the job of the ref and the ringside physician to protect the fighter, not the coach. Some fighters even refuse to be cornered by anyone that will throw in the towel (as was the case recently with Anthony Smith). A corner would never need to throw in the towel if the ref and/or physician are doing their job properly.

I think I just convinced myself that his coach did nothing wrong. This is a mental game and the coach's job is to get his fighter's mind in the game. He did everything he could to pump his fighter up. His fighter made the decision not to continue, which is fine, but really is just further proof that the coach/corner didn't need to make that decision for him.

yeah that was even easier than i thought. caseys upright style just leaves her completely unable to stop takedowns.

3 for 3 so far, took Hubbard at 2.62 as well as both Murphy and Robertson.
I guess I'l end up losing this next 1, but Piechota is a small dog at 2.1, so had to bet him

Just had another think about this. A fighter should not have to plead with his coach to stop a fight, you are insane to think otherwise!

The fighter pleaded several times to stop it and the coach said NO several times and you think the coach did nothing wrong?????????????????

If the ref did not hear the fighter and that fight went on and the fighter dies, does the coach get charged with murder?

You don't think a coach has a moral responsibility to protect his fighter?

What if the ref didn't pick up what the fighter was saying? What if the fighter decides last second to fight on, because he can't be bothered to argue with his stubborn coach then get injured badly?

Some things the ringside doctor can't pick up on, if a fighter is injured or severely fatigued, in a lot of pain etc.

It should never be the coach's responsibility to stop a fight. His job is in direct conflict with fighter safety. It is the responsibility of the UFC in conjunction with the sanctioning body. Thats why they provide a referee and a doctor for every single fight. If there is a problem with fighter safety the improvements should be made from that side of things, not from the coaching side.

BTW, you and I don't know the fighter as well as his coach. How often have you heard a ufc fighter quit on the stool? I can't say I've heard it very often. It seems likely to me that this fighter quitting is probably not abnormal for him. Some guys need to be pushed harder than others. The coach's job is to push him to be the best that he can be in the octagon, not help him find a way out when the going gets tough.

These are all things a physician should be able to diagnose better than a coach, especially since the coach is focused on winning the fight while the physician is focused on fighter safety. I'm sure procedures can be improved but there is no reason that the UFC/sanctioning body can not fully handle fighter safety.

Don't think I've ever seen Torres fight with so much aggression and willingness.. I knew she was capable of so much more, took some live after round 1. Only 1.87 but whatever!

Considering Bobby Greene had 1 win going back close to 6 years (vs a guy Guida beat too) I'd say the line was a bit ridiculous.

Staying with Roberts on this 1. My gut saying Roberts will win, despite my brain saying big experience gap but Miller old and slow now, going with the young hungry lion.

Old Miller still a sly fox!

Inexperience, I guess, pretty bad to stand up in that spot.
