Re: MMA Thread

Only bet I have for the card cashes with Safarov winning.
Had some Breese before he pulled out.

Don't like much on the rest of the card going to put up some 50 on Masvidal at 3.2 on one of the exchanges and see if it gets matched.

Re: MMA Thread

John Phillips won round 3 with much bigger punches, should have beat Marshman 29-28.

Re: MMA Thread

wow i had it 29-28 reyes but very close. way closer than i thought. volkan's cardio just can't hold up though.

apparently a lot of people had 2 to volkan, im surprised. media scores have it 30-27 which is ****ing insane. no chance volkan had a sniff at that third round.

Re: MMA Thread

Would be down to watch Masvidal knock out Edwards

Super impressive to put Till to sleep like that

Askren tweets that Masvidal started the fight so he doesn't have to face him next which is fun. Talking **** on the whole upper tier of the division on twitter, hope they give him another fight quickly, i'm all aboard the Askren hype train.

Usman out with surgery for a hernia recovery so could be a while.

I'm guessing they should make Masvidal/Edwards now after the backstage fight it sells itself and makes sense from a rankings perspective, Masvidal is obv higher ranked after the Till win but is still only on a 1 fight win streak vs 7 fight.

WW so stacked right now and whoever wins out of WB/Pettis adds to the list of contenders at the top next week as well.

Re: MMA Thread

What about Cov vs Askren for an interim during international fight week if Usman is going to be out awhile?

These two talk tons of trash and could headline a PPV if done right.

Re: MMA Thread

i just rewatched reyes-oedzimir round 2 three times with no sound. honestly volkan barely throws anything. lands clean 3-4 times. reyes lands way more volume and lands some pretty clean punches as well as the better body/leg work. no idea what people saw that it was a fairly clear reyes round. it wasn't a blowout round but really tough to give it to volkan when he threw less, didn't land anything big, and was getting countered fairly clean when he did throw.

Re: MMA Thread

Do Wonderboy and Blaydes ever lose here? I guess Blaydes can because it's HW but Wonderboy has to be the absolute worst matchup for Pettis possible - a bigger, rangier striker who is more technical and who is physically larger/stronger so Pettis probably can't take him down either

How can he possibly win this fight other than random puncher's chance or maybe a fluke guillotine?

Willis is a fat slow less athletic wrestler than Blaydes who is a faster, more explosive wrestler and better athlete in general. Willis only won the Hunt fight because Hunt stopped throwing basically and old age got him

Feels super square but I kind of want to just parlay Wonderboy and Blaydes at -150 and be done with the card. Sure, random stuff happens in MMA but it would be legitimately surprising if either of them lost. Blaydes is legit top 10 and Willis is fat and slow and lost the first round to 44yo Mark Hunt and even then only won the fight because Hunt stopped throwing for some reason, all of his other wins are over cans. If this was a FW fight not HW with the same skillsets Blaydes would be -700.

Pettis is a way way better MMA fighter but could you design a worse fighter for him to fight than Wonderboy? Pettis can't win on volume or cardio or technique and lacks the power to put Wonderboy out cold with one shot and isn't big and strong enough with good enough wrestling to take him down

His only chance is that Wonderboy is 36 and will start declining soon if he hasn't already. The two things that can beat Wonderboy are a power puncher who can lose rounds until he lands a kill shot or an NCAA level wrestler who can take him down at will. Pettis is neither of those things. If he wins via TKO it's via kicks not punches usually and if he tries to play the kicking game with Wonderboy he's going to end up unconscious really fast.

Not gonna fire it yet as i'll shop around for best price but I think i've talked myself into just parlaying the main and co-main, I don't see one of them being upset more than the 40%ish or so required. Will do some more research on the prelims later in the week. Any spots anyone loves or can anyone make a compelling counter argument why Wonderboy or Blaydes is likely to lose?

Re: MMA Thread

i mean the blueprint to beating pettis is just get up in his face, crowd him and mix in takedowns ala RDA. i think wonderboy should win but what happens if it's a super slow paced kicking match and tons of rounds are really close because nothing happens and pettis is able to get off some flashy kicks because he's got time and space. definitely isn't the worst possible matchup for pettis. he's not gonna win i don't think, but i don't think wonderboy lost to till either, but the judges did. till didn't even need the 5th rd vs. thompson.

Re: MMA Thread

I guess you're right but if Pettis gets pressured then there's a chance he can get a random scramble/sub which he can't at range

Against most people a ranged kickboxing match would be a dream for Pettis but against Wonderboy? You're right he could win a low output bad decision where not much happens but no huge homecrowd advantage the way Till had one or champions advantage the way Woodley had. Wonderboy is 2 inches taller and has a 2.5 inch reach advantage and a much bigger body frame. Pettis doesn't even really have a speed advantage. He's just going to get 50-45'd or lose via accumulation of damage until he has nothing left.

I suppose you're right that the most likely way for Pettis to win is a low output boring decision but across 5 rounds? Wonderboy only lost rounds to Till because he was in England (22/25 media cards etc, no way he loses that in the USA) and Woodley landed a fight changing shot in both fights but the best result I can get to for Woodley is 47-47 in both fights anyway and Woodley presented a real power and wrestling threat that Pettis doesn't, and Till is multiple weight classes bigger than Pettis size wise.

Can anyone see a way that Willis beats Blaydes other than 'it's at heavyweight'? He's slower, less strong and athletic, has worse cardio, not as good a wrestler and not as good a striker, right? -265 is a steep price at HW, but it feels more like Blaydes wins 80% here than the 72.6% required to me. I think most of that 20% is he randomly gets KO'd cold in the first exchange as well if the fight goes more than 60 seconds I just don't see how Willis wins other than the 5-10% equity from 'it's HW random stuff happens'

Re: MMA Thread

Masvidal has the aura man, he is in some prime championship level place.

look at the state of him, exalted one status VIP no1

That is what a fighter looks like when he is way past himself, looked like buddha in the cage having fun yo.

impressive, very impressive, envious that recipe :-)

Edit: Masvidal has been growing outside of the cage not just in fighting skill but as a person it appears.

Re: MMA Thread

Lets not forget that Till did clip Masvidal but didnt know how to smother him and set up a finish on the ground.

If Till had a better idea on how to take advantage of that situation then we would all be talking about a possible Till vs. Askren fight soon...

This fight was a perfect example of a slick vet showing there are levels to this game.

I dont see how Masvidal gets the next title shot though.
No fights in 2018 and two losses prior to the Till KO.

Woodley should get a rematch and then I think Covington should fight Ponzinibbio for the next shot.

Its hard to predict considering the UFC rankings are meaningless.
They only exist for the fans. We all know its a money making business.
Big names get big fights.

If Floyd Mayweather wanted to fight on the next UFC, he would looking across the cage at the Hawaiian champ.

Re: MMA Thread

I don't know that Blaydes is more athletic than Justin Willis. Sure Blaydes is taller and has a better looking physique but I don't recall him ever showing any incredible athleticism. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Willis is the quicker/faster fighter. Willis certainly has the faster hand speed.

If you listen to Willis talk he thinks he's better than Blaydes everywhere. I'm not sure how that would be possible considering Blaydes has been wrestling for many many years and Willis hasn't. Willis does train with DC and Cain at AKA so there is that.

As for Pettis I have no clue why he keeps getting thrown in against top level fighters. He's 3-6 in the last 4 years. How about giving him some easier fights from time to time?

Re: MMA Thread

Michelle Waterson, bet the house on that 1!!!

EDIT: Not the house obv, but think she wins, Carolina just too damn hittable, don't see how she's a fav tbh! She's tough but Michelle got too many skills to get beat by her imo, in fact I think she will dominate her quite easily!
