Re: MMA Thread

The stats out there are kind of inconsistent but from *COUGH* Wikipedia.

GSP 5'10 and a 76" reach.
Bisping 6'1 and a 75.5" reach.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_St-Pierre
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Bisping

Current odds at the Euro books have GSP as the 4/6 favourite and Bisping at 13/10.

I think this boils down to "Can GSP get Bisping down to the ground and keep him there for five rounds?". I have no idea how good Bisping's takedown defence is if at all.

Re: MMA Thread

Big news on the FS1 weigh-in show, Heidi Androl said that Alexa Grasso had a UTI and kidney infection and that's why she missed weight and also that she is now on antibiotics given by the UFC doctor who cleared her to fight nonetheless. That's not good for her strength and stamina here. I'm on Markos and Markos decision since Grasso missed weight.

Also added more to Sam Alvey, as I think Rashad is done.

Re: MMA Thread

Be interested to hear what are people favourite spots on this card?

Don't see much I like at all. Only got Moreno at 1.73 due to the odds movement. Alvey looks solid considering Evans last fight. I know Jouban seems to be heavily favored by a lot of people.

Grasso is getting backed in so guess whatever her issues were. She is back to good health.

Re: MMA Thread

lol at all those people on sherdog "thinking " it should have been a draw, the people over there are so biased towards the figthers they bet on. Maybe round 1 should have been a 10-8 for Moreno but the same could have been said for the third round for Pettis. In the 5th round I also thought Pettis did the most damage.

Re: MMA Thread

Yeah grasso is a bit overhyped. I faded her last fight and got lucky here.

Pettis finally earns the right to be destroyed by mm

Lost a unit and change for the card didn't make many bets. Only caught the finally fights.

Re: MMA Thread

I'm pretty high on Struve against Volkov. Volkov's going to be facing a bigger taller guy which is rare for him and Struves filled out his frame and seems to have put his mental issues behind him. I would have locked in +140 but the cards so far away, +130 is the best im seeing now and happy to wait at this point I guess.

Volkov is good and I bet him over Nelson but that was a fade on Nelson and Volkov is just a good fighter not a great one.

Volkov's ground game is utterly awful (see Kongo fight granted it was a while ago) and while Struve isn't a good wrestler he will stomp Volkov on the ground if it goes there. Struve can be chinny and doesn't use his reach well, but he's developing power in his punches as he matures. Volkov's going to have to find his chin early and often to win this, if not I see Struve landing something big on him and if it goes to the mat at any point Struve probably submits him or lands fight changing GnP.

I think Struve's a small fav rather than a small dog and if he loses it will usually be by r1 TKO. I can see him winning via any of KO or SUB and if it goes the distance which is very unlikely it'll probably come down to cardio. Struve's heart issues are a worry there. I think it depends which version of Struve we get. The one that showed up in his last two fights is a favourite, the one that showed up vs Rosholt/Nog probably doesn't.

I'm still in the camp that thinks Struve's best days may be ahead of him. I was worried he was done after the Rosholt fight but it may be a mid career slump due to the heart condition, recovery and mindset issues that arose from that, whether the Bigfoot fight was a turning point or not remains to be seen. I mean, on the one hand he got knocked out by Travis Browne (granted pre edmund) and on the other he knocked out Stipe Miocic, granted before he was champ. His standup offense is fantastic when he lets loose, his defense is obviously iffy but if he learns to use his range and works on his offensive takedown game he could still become a HW Jones if his chin isnt to far gone, he's still young despite being older in fight years.

Huge Struve fan so i'm biased but I hope he's still got it and the last two performances have given me some confidence back in him. Volkov's on the upswing too but i'm not sure he matches up well with Struve he's not used to being the shorter smaller guy and he can't win via takedowns/wrestling as Struve has the much better BJJ and all around ground game.

Remember the funky line movements on that fight in Korea. Sounds like the fix was indeed in.

Re: MMA Thread

Saw the news a while back lot at how incompetent bang is at match fixing etc and how littleness was paid. Then he tries to lose but make it look legit and kuntz is too incompetent to win.

Absurd that a ufc fight can be bought for sub 100k tho even on prelims

Surprised it doesn't happen more to be honest. Makes no sense for up and comers.
But for guys at the tail end of the career that never made any real money.

Like a Josh Burkman or Mizugaki type journeyman.

There was some other fight a good while back I called out as obviously fixed, I never seen one before that and not post that, but that one I called out was so obviously fixed, it was like watching some kind of circus act, what surprised me was no one else could see it. It was a main event fight from memory.

Forget which fight it was now, but it was laughable.. just a joke to watch, the fighters were throwing to not land and stuff. crazy. SwoopAE should remember.

Re: MMA Thread

Was it Shamrock vs Kimbo? That's the only relatively recent fight I can think of that seemed likely (50%+) to be fixed especially based on how Kimbo escaped the deep RNC in dramatic fashion from an impossible position then knocked Shamrock out with the first punch once he got up

Sounds like you may be talking about a different fight though

When I saw the fight the way it ended, I immediately said that it had to be fixed. The way Kimbo escaped the RNC and basically immediately finished Shamrock was very very suspicious looking.
