The fight was a long time ago, i'm basing it more on Bendo/Cerrone's performances in the UFC since it was so long ago. Anthony Pettis was losing to Bart Palaszewski around that time and BJ Penn was fighting Kenny Florian for the LW title; they're both at totally different stages of their career now.
The one thing that worries me most is that with Benson having had the belt and lost it and lost a fight since he may not want it as badly as Cerrone does, but Cerrone fights dumb in a lot of his fights and while he was very impressive against Jury, Bendo is a legit top 5 LW with the right skillset to take out Cerrone (decent chin although he got KO'd last fight, better wrestling, decent volume striking, good gameplanning usually)
The gameplan should be volume striking, come forward, take Cerrone down when/if he throws kicks and top control/submission defense. Mix in takedown attempts, volume striking and kicks to win the standup if Cerrone won't throw kicks himself.
To beat Cerrone you have to be better at him than something and fight aggressively. In Bendo's case he's competitive in the striking but should own him with takedowns and top control if Cerrone leaves himself open to get taken down via aggressive striking and if he doesn't use all of his striking arsenal aggressively then Bendo is very live standing with him via volume strikes.
I mean, in practice, it's a Cerrone fight so anything can happen from Cerrone getting choked out in 42 seconds to Cerrone headkicking Bendo in the first round to a split decision for Bendo because judges love him.
Bendo does have better wins than Cerrone overall I think.
Pretty crazy that Cerrone has had 16 UFC fights by the way. Doesn't feel like that long ago that he debuted in the UFC.
I probably should have only gone a single unit rather than two though because as previously stated I suck at betting on Cerrone fights.
