Going to UFC apex Aug 21, will be betting a lot on the card. Can't wait til the card is finalized and can start placing bets. Will need any potential advice!

Sandhagen (-163) 1.63u to win 1u I think his reach and momentum will be too much for TJ who is coming back from a very long layoff. Sandhagen is the new generation of MMA athletes, the complete package. I will add more if the line hits -150 closer to fight time.
Feels like I've been on this Sandhagen line since ever lol, looks like we gonna crush the closing line of course now he just has to win the fight

i'm on sandhagen too, just don't think tj is ever going to be the same after the cejudo ko and the suspension and layoff. some part of me is concerned with his wrestling, but i just trust sandhagen to get hands on him and some point and finish the job. sijara is absolutely free this week. fighting a small 115er who doesn't have good TDD. okay...

Eubanks should win but not laying the price in WMMA

Have some Soriano and Belbita at close to flip prices, think small fav Soriano and small dog Belbita, hopefully get both. Nothing big this card though. Pity the days of Elkins being free money are long gone but hope he wins

TJ i'm torn on like he's obv a cheating scumbag but won me SO much money between the Barao and Cody fights that I find it hard to hate him

He's a cheating scumbag though so I guess I hope he gets knocked out, no bets. If he can pull off a comeback with no EPO it's impressive, assume he's being mass tested this time

Sarge better win because if she doesn't she'll have a losing MMA record.

Apparently this event started early and I'm gonna be playing catchup on the fights that have already occurred.

I think there is a good chance that Dillashaw will still be on EPO but given the long layoff I'll be very interested to see how he looks regardless.

Brendan Allen has the look of a potential future champion. The biggest negative on him is, like Edmen Shahbazyan, he's having to fight killers at such a young age (he is 25 and Shahbazyan is 23).

Very impressive that he was able to win every round standing vs Soriano without taking much damage, but I would have much rather he try to take the fight to the ground.

Sandhagen is super dangerous and his standup was on point. He's surprisingly hard to hit. TJ only landed 34 of 136 strikes to the head. Still, Sandhagen needs to do a better job of winning rounds.

In real time I thought Dillashaw won, but the highlights were all Sandhagen. I hate to see a fight won on points, which is essentially what happened here. Still, much respect to both fighters.

BTW, nice to see both fighters immediately own up to their biggest mistakes in the fight. Sandhagen was throwing up a lot of hail marys early which allowed TJ to control him but Sandhagen was able to adjust and fought smarter in the later rounds.

I think the rounds were Sandhagen wobbled TJ should have been easily won on the scorecards. Also judges gave TJ rounds for advancing while getting peppered by jabs to the face and landing tiny TD that were easily defended.

I'm honestly upset at Cory's corner, after TJ won Round 3 they needed to go for the kill, instead they focused on going to a decision via jabs and here we are.

These are the worst losses because Cory will 100% see how that one slipped away and how many avenues he had to victory. Some very tough conversations ahead for that team who seemed to be doing everything right up until now.

Interestingly the Judges scored rounds 1 through 3 identically

Round 1: TJ
Round 2: Corey
Round 3: TJ

Rounds 1 and 3 are the only rounds TJ successfully completed a takedown.

The judges varied on rounds 4 and 5 with one judge giving them both to Cory, one judge giving TJ just round 4, and one judge giving TJ just round 5.

Media overwhelmingly scored the bout in favor of Cory (48-47) and 60% of fans also had it going Cory's way.

Sal D'amato gave TJ the 5th round even though Cory beat the **** outta him that round

Kamijo scored it 48-47 TJ but I have no issue with his scorecard as the 4th was a close fight.

Sal D'amato was also one of the two judges that had Macyee Barber winning. Only 3.4% of the fans had her winning that fight.

I think I had it for TJ but Sandhagen fought like an idiot and deserved to lose. Full weight class bigger, vs a 35yo coming off PEDs (or maybe still on them who knows) and constantly fought TJ's fight

Sandhagen will NEVER hold the belt. He loses to Yan, he loses to Sterling, he lost to TJ and he might even lose to a few other guys a this rate

He has all of the tools and ability in theory but when your opponent pops his knee and has an awful cut over his eye and you're content to fight at your shorter/smaller opponent's range and let him outgrapple you despite him being unable to get hooks in due to a ****ed knee you're not gonna be champ

Was a very exciting main, not sure TJ gets to the belt again at his age but good comeback from him

Tough one for me to cheer w no bet because I like watching TJ and he won me tons of money over his career but also he's a drug cheat so it's hard to be happy for him as well

Had it 48-47 TJ myself fwiw but coinflip decision either way was fine

Sandhagen can only blame himself for not winning that though

Any of you guys have reads on body types and propensity to gas? It seem to me that the guys (or gals) that have that lean physique, but not too ripped and not too much muscle fair better than those that are super muscular. You guys agree with this observation?

Correct. Being super jacked is a terrible physique to have for fighting especially with weight classes.

There were a couple super jacked fighters this past event, Hannah Goldy and Ian Heinisch. My only question is WHY?!? They could probably win some body building contests though.

In general yes, but that's not true in all cases. Phil Hawes, for example, is super jacked but seems to have a pretty good gas tank. On the other hand, gassing was always a problem for guys like Yoel Romero. It is really important to pay attention to a fighter's gas tank though if you're handicapping, I think that's something that a lot of people don't attach enough weight to.

I think the best builds for MMA are guys that are strong but don't necessarily have tons of hypertrophy. A good example would be Nassourdine Imavov, he was obviously just as strong as Ian Heinisch in this weekend's fight but had a lot less muscle.

Also the other thing to be mindful of is that even though USADA is testing, PED use is still definitely a thing (see TJ’s suspension for EPO, Adesanya’s gyno from steroid use, etc.) So even if fighters are jacked doesn’t mean they can’t be on EPO or other substances to increase endurance. If you’re interested, there’s an old school podcast with Victor Conte on the JRE where he talks a lot about how you can dope under Olympic style USADA testing and get away with it.

There is a high probability that the ones with very muscular builds that don't gas are on EPO. There are probably a lot more fighters on EPO than people realize.

Chael Sonnen called it his favorite PED and it was also the PED Lance Armstrong used as well. The window is very short for EPO to be detected in a blood test and it may not be detected at all if the fighter is microdosing.

EPO delivers improved cardio both for training as well as the fight itself.

Edit: looks like the previous post beat me to this.
