Can anyone guide me into what is generally accepted as the best way to make your own point spread based on power rankings, specifically for the NFL. I know there are a lot of sharp players that use this to come up with their opening line but can’t seem to find a simple article on how to do that. Mainly, I’m looking to average 3-4 power rankings together rather than the added task of making my own, and adding this to my handicapping. Thanks in advance.
I've seen more than one fairly efficient power ranking model. Of course these go beyond the simple linear ranking - calculate the difference - get the point spread model that I believe the OP is referring to.
I used to keep a list of power rankings just based on the previous lines and update it week-to-week. It's obviously not something you can handicap with, but it was generally pretty close as far as predicting future lines.
Thanks TomG. Very much appreciated especially for the newer unexperienced bettors/ posters. Always provide useful good info, even for the small things or other top pros might respond to in a different manner. On many topics, i personally, am thankful for all your great input
