I mean, by any measurable standard the US botched the response - still took the economic loss, but both infection rates and death toll are higher per capita than almost any other country except for those that didn't take the response seriously

New Zealand is officially Covid-free at 22 deaths with 1/65th of America's population, Australia has 1/13th of America's population and 102 deaths and is on the verge of being Covid-free as well. Our sport is resuming, people are going back to work and so on. We had proper lockdowns quickly and it contained the spread and we didn't have idiots refusing to wear masks brandishing guns and threatening the governor

South Korea is at 273 deaths with around 1/6th of the US population and is on a path to eliminate it too and that's an incredibly densely populated country too - free testing/public healthcare goes a long way as well as the ability to follow instructions in case of a pandemic, i've seen $7k for tests and stuff for some Americans who the **** is going to get tested if it could cost thousands of dollars even with insurance - and not having an insane President who calls it a hoax during the critical early stages and says it will go away by itself when he is followed blindly by ~40% of the population would help too

America's response to Covid was pretty awful by any standard, looking to have about 200k deaths plus probably with 118k at the moment and no possibility of controlling it anymore given no strict lockdowns are in place with UBI for the population at this point. That's the equivalent of Australia getting over 9000 deaths at the current point, or about a 90 to 1 per capita kill ratio AND it's not under control yet in the USA it will likely be over 100 to 1 by the time it's done

To describe America's Covid response as anything other than an absolutely miserable failure for the richest country in the world when America knew about the potential problem in January but didn't suffer the outbreak until March is just wrong.

Out of all of Trump's various failures, this was by far the most serious, and it potentially cost over 100k Americans their lives (the Australian per capita death rate if strict lockdowns were put in place immediately with UBI for the Americans population to buy supplies would have meant about 1300-1400 dead Americans and life going back to normal about nowish, not 118,000. That's less than half a 9/11 to nearly 40 9/11s. That's how bad the response is/was.

Now yes, America has land borders and Australia doesn't, but our population in Aus is even more urban than in America since well over half of all Australians live in our 5 biggest cities and 90-something % of Australians live within a short drive of the coast. Our big cities had plenty of cases, but they were contained quickly through testing and lockdowns and the outbreak didn't spread badly. In America, the richest country in the world, people showing symptoms couldn't even get tested due to lack of tests in many areas, and those that could had to decide if it was worth risking being tested because of financial concerns.

These protests now are likely to spark yet another wave of cases over the next few weeks. Even before the current wave of protests, idiots protesting the lockdowns were spreading the virus as well. The only way to get it under control is for everyone except essential workers to stay the **** inside for a month or so, get some UBI to the population (if you have trillions to bail out wall street over and over you have money for larger stimulus payments) and make testing free for anyone who wants a test obv

I have no idea how America has fallen as far as it has in just a few years. The Western world needs American leadership and instead the country has become a laughing stock, a third world country dressed up as a first world country. There's plenty of wealth and talent to change course and be USA#1 again but something needs to change or the country will fall into decline and at a certain point it'll be too late for anything to be done about it. The deficit just grows year after year, you can't print money to prop up the stock market forever while the middle and working class's purchasing power just keeps declining year after year.

Also hey guys what’s up
Sorry poogs. But thanks for clearing that up. I think everyone can agree, no matter their politics, that the Floyd matter was horrible.

I'm not a fan of looting. And I'm not naive enough to think that all those people protesting are angels or that all black people are angels as a matter of fact.
But I do agree with the peaceful protesters. I really think that this country needs a lot of things to change moving forward.

It's not just for the benefit of the black community that we need change. We need it for all of us.
Maybe I'm off on this, but I think racism hurts the country as a whole. All the money we spend on policing, incarceration and all the money wasted on welfare because people don't have the opportunity to get work.
And the fear we have to sometimes live in because of the crime that systemic racism creates.
The world will never be perfect, but we don't have to make it worse.
Well, let's take a brief look at what happened in South Africa.
After apartheid ended, a lot of the black people that came into authority were corrupt and life didn't significantly improve for the majority of black South Africans. But life did improve.
And white South Africans were not chased out of the country and they still have most of the wealth. The country didn't collapse. No matter the consequences, apartheid had to go. Change needed to be made.

It's a free country, I'm open to all counter arguments. But because I don't want to pretend to be an authority on the subject and I think I've said all I care to say about the matter, I truly am done with the subject here.

Swoop, I agree with you. Trump is a nightmare of a president.
He's even worse than what I feared he'd be.
If only Trump was the only problem. He's the byproduct of a intellectually backwards thinking and out of touch minority that unfortunately wields a lot of power.

Me neither! We may never know what happened in the last few years!

Actually, I lied, there is one more thing that has been on my mind.
Police unions. Being a Democrat, I'm normally a supporter of unions.
A union worker normally makes about 10 dollars more than a non union worker in the same trade. But it seems to me, police unions have gotten totally out of hand. They've become so powerful that a police chief doesn't even have the power to fire bad cops anymore. I hate to have to say this, because conservatives have been trying to get rid of unions for years it seems, but police unions have got to go.

Now that my DraftKings sportsbook account is basically worthless, I've gotta say that they are definitely worth an account for anyone in a state where they operate. I'd estimate an account there is worth about $20k in bonuses and promos and another $50k in EV from normal bets for a board cleaner for the first month. Took me about 4 weeks to get limits cut substantially and then another 10 days to get limits cut to laughable levels. But their initial limits are so high that I was able to generate over 4% of Colorado's handle last month from that account alone with pretty minimal effort.

even after all this and you still don't bother to answer the question swoop lol

300 million police interactions resulting in 200 deaths

so much brutality it blows my mind lol

why is this even news let alone plastered on every single website/station around the world?

Do you remember when covid was the end of the world and had some of you moving to the middle of no where with years worth of supply?

you can't see how the media is playing to your emotions again?

lets just say that you are correct and all 180k police departments are racist and target black people all day resulting in 200 deaths every year..now lets say we can flip a switch and reform happens overnight which results in 0 people dying from the police..then what?

has this done anything to improve the situation of black people?
06-11-2020 , 01:13 AM
It isn't just scenarios where black people die where their lives are negatively influenced by racism or police racism

Obviously the problem specifically is a drop in the bucket relative to threats like Covid (which to date has killed over 100k Americans and will be well over 200k by the time it's done and potentially a lot more)

Fwiw, the death count in Australia from Covid is just over 100 and it's basically been eradicated here.

You may not have personally had any negative interactions with the police lvr, that doesn't mean other people haven't

I've had some negative interactions and i'm an upper middle class white guy - but I was never scared of being beaten/killed by the police the way black people regularly are

If you want to be an authoritarian bootlicker that's your prerogative, but policing in America is broken and needs to be reformed - obviously the 'defund the police' crowd are nuts, but demilitarizing the police and training them properly and reforming police unions so that bad cops can actually be dismissed are some basic steps that can be taken. Police brutality should be investigated and prosecuted by an independent office with no ties to the police force they're investigating, simple stuff like that. Police have some of the highest rates of domestic violence out there and their colleagues cover it up. There are no good cops who cover for bad cops, they're just bad cops too.

Some mildly good news. Bookmaker seems to have increased their weekly withdrawal limits to $7500. Pretty sure that happened today or yesterday as it was still $5000 on Monday.

Hi all.

I am a longtime lurker on these forums (lost my original account in the password hack) and appreciate reading up on the sportsbetting forum.

With the NHL playoffs starting this weekend, I wonder why there is no dedicated hockey thread on here. Is this sport not suitable for sharp betting?

Jeepers. I bought some Ceasers stock in March at around 14 or 15 and sold them for about a 100 dollar profit. They are now at 57 a share. Hey, I'm a square sports bettor and a square trader. But they are valued right now at 100. Some stock investing anyone?
