Yes right move IMO also. We knew she was never going to race Big Z,and was not going to be in the BC,so what was the point going on with her. I also agree with your Doug "Milkshake" O'Neil comment FT,hard for me to give crap to a fellow irishman but he's earned it.

why does this make sense

at monmouth on sunday i hit $1 pick 3 races 4-5-6 for ~$386, hit exacta in same race for $169, tri for $1612, superfecta for 5k

then i hit the 50 cent pick 5 races 6-7-8-9-10 and it only paid $361???? i mean both included the 6th race and the pick 5 pool was so much bigger why does stuff like this happen

fwiw winner of 4th: 9/5, 5th: 3to1, 6th: 26 to 1, 7th: 10 to 1, 8th: 4 to 1, 9th: 2 to 1, 10th: 9 to 1

so my pick 3 with 2 decent favorites and a 26 to 1 pays more than a pick 5 with a 26, 10, and 9 to 1 in it??

Curlin is going to sire RA's foals. I can't wait to see these super-horse offspring dominate the races four or five years down the road.

The pk5 only paid to 4 winners on Sunday. That's why the payout was so low. No one hit all 5 horses.

First off, Twirling Candy to win the Classic @ 75/1. This horse has a ton of ability, i mean a ton, and the way things have shaken out recently, it looks like the Classic is his most likely target. He won the Oceanside Stakes at a mile on grass in his two-turn (and stakes) debut, and just took the 1 1/8-mile Del Mar Derby on grass over the weekend. That being said, there's very little chance he'll be pointed to the Breeders Cup Mile, because his stablemate Sidney's Candy is being pointed there after his tour de force in the La Jolla Handicap (his grass debut), and trainer John Sadler won't be looking to enter both of his star colts in the same race.

That being the case, it was announced before the Del Mar Derby that Twirling Candy would be pointed to the Goodwood Stakes @ Oak Tree, which has traditionally been the top West Coast prep for the Classic. The surface switch isn't an issue, as Twirling Candy looked equally sensational winning an allowance race on the main track earlier this year, and the way he's been running, it's hard to expect anything other than a strong performance in that race. That in all likelyhood would land him in the Classic, where of course he'll still have to beat the mighty Zenyatta. No easy task, to put it mildly, but i can honestly say that of all the horses i've seen this year, Twirling Candy would probably pose the biggest threat to her. He would be running on dirt for the first time (the race is @ Churchill Downs this year), but that probably isn't a huge deal. All in all, a pretty large overlay at the current listed price.

The other one i wanted to mention is Sidney's Candy, who is listed for the Mile (not the Dirt Mile) @ 11/1. He looked fantastic early this year beginning with the San Vicente, and in fact he was my pick to win the Kentucky Derby (where he failed miserably). Given a break after that debacle, he returned after a layoff to run in the 1 1/8-mile Swaps Stakes, where i thought he ran a very solid race despite getting beat a nose as the 1/5 favorite. He set a contested pace along the inside, then opened up on the eventual winner coming off the turn, but i think the distance was probably a bit much for him coming off the long break, and he just got tired late. I expected an improved effort in his next race with the added conditioning under his belt, but in no way did i expect the absolutely monstrous performance that he turned in. It seems that he just adores the grass, and shortening up a bit in distance probably didn't hurt either. Looks like a gigantic threat to win the Mile (which is slightly shorter than the La Jolla, another positive) as long as he gets through the Oak Tree Mile in one piece. Price not huge with two months to go and a race in-between, but there's every chance he could end up being reasonably short price in the Mile, the European invaders notwithstanding. Hard to say without seeing the results of his next race, but somewhere in the neighborhood of 5/2 isn't out of the question by any means. That would make 11/1 look awfully good on raceday. Hard not to like at the current price.

Does anyone know when the Breeders' Cup lineups are released? I have been trying to find it, but without luck. I am really looking forward to seeing how Zenyatta does in the Classic. I would like to know who her competition is, though.

The official fields won't be announced until the Monday or Tuesday before the race. So appx. November 1st. There are lists of probables everywhere on the internet. The main competition for Zenyatta (if she runs) will be Blame, Quality Road, Lookin at Lucky and some Euro's.

I found a great resource I've been reading through, at washingtonthoroughbred.com, specifically checking out the Stallion Register its great, they give you a bunch of information, show the tree, and prominent offspring as well as other details.

Thanks! This weekend will be pretty interesting to watch as Zenyatta, Blame, Rail Trip, and Lookin at Lucky all run in their final prep races for the Classic. According to DRF.com, Quality Road is apparently not racing again until the Classic. Pletcher has had good results with running him fresh.

Midas Touch to place in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Sunday at 14/1 (betfair).

Will probably run from the front, ground is soft, hopefully he'll like it and stay on in the tough conditions (easily won his maiden on soft only time running on soft ground. Has a lot of stamina) and he's a horse with a good bit of class, a close 2nd in the Irish Derby. Will hopefully improve on his recent bunch of 2nds and finish in a place again in a much tougher race.

bridge jumping, but yes depending on how many horses run and if they are offering show bets. you're usually betting $2 to win a dime.

edit: I answered this question, thinking I know the answer, but not entirely sure. If anyone knows better please correct me.

Sounds right to me Walk, but i do not subscribe to "bridge jumping" myself,i have done it before and Big Z would be the only horse alive and running i would make this type of wager. I just can hear the King's words now though, "Only 2 things certain and thats hookers and coupe devilles"

Just started capping, try to get some picks in today,GL everyone and enjoy the Big Z show, she has brought me sooo many smiles

Just saw in the PP's, "No Show Wagering" in the 7th The Lady Secret S (G1)

I can't remember the name of the old, famous horse that always used to save up for a deep deep closing kick and nip the other horses at the wire by a nose, repeatedly. It's a very well-known old horse, can someone remember it for me.
