Belmont is about bloodlines. [and to a much lesser extent jockeys with experience unlike Borel at Big Sandy]

First Dude to win: grandsire AP Indy sired Rags to Riches and was a top horse out of Seattle Slew/Secretariat line. Stephen got Even was a solid racer as his sire.
Smart Strike is broodmare sire and sired Curlin. Female side also sired my favorite Belmont winner - Lemon Drop Kid.

Place/all exotics: Make Music for Me -- got up for 4th in Derby, rested specifically for this race, out of very important Northern Dancer line, high-class female bloodlines including stamina influences like Nijinsky, and also produced BC Mile winner Opening verse.

Show/also: Drosselmeyer - Distorted Humor colt out of Forty Niner who sired Belmont winner Editors Note. Broodmire sire Moscow Ballet also out of Nijinsky. 2nd dam is by Slew o'Gold out of Seattle Slew.

Exotics:Ice Box. Supers: Interactif.

Longshot bettors: Spangled Star at 30-1 also outta Distorted Humor. Plus you got to like the fact that his trainer, Dutrow, cheats well.

I had one bet today.

A 10 euro treble with Workforce at 13/2, Slovakia at 4/5 (3-0 up) and Schiavone to win 2-1 in sets at 15/2 (obv contemplated the 2-0 or just backing her to win ffs but i thought Stosur was good for a set). Depressing i made no money today. Massive beat.

Manhattan Handicap: Take the Points, Just as well. Gio Ponti boxed with those in
ex and trifectas.

If it rains and the turf is soft adding Grand Courturier to the exotics.

Ok, only spending a little today on the pk4. It seems like it could be really tough or really chalky and I just don't know what to do.

3 tickets, totaling $66:

Ticket 1: 5,6 / 3,6,7,8 / 5 / 3,5,6,9 = $36
Ticket 2: 3 / 6,7 / 1,5,9 / 3,5,6,7 = $24
Ticket 3: 3,9 / 2 / 1 / 3,6,11 = $6

I'll post a stakes wager a little later on. depending on whether I'm alive in race 11...

gl all.

Haven't posted in well over a year but up over 1M (well documented) last 8yrs as pro sports bettor/poker player. Thought I would share with you my write up that I emailed my friends this morning....good luck on all your plays today.

From: Steven MXXXX (XXXXXXX@hotmail.com)
Sent: Sat 6/05/10 10:09 AM

Let's not kid ourselves, I don't spend much time as a horse handicapper. But with that said, the 5hrs of research that I just finished revealed that there is value here worth sharing to you all:

#5 Fly Down is clearly the value play here. Just bet my limits on all my books ranging from 4.5-1 to 5-1....I would be very surprised if he goes off at anything higher than 3.5-1, possibly 4-1.

Reasons why I love Fly Down at 5-1:

-He's fresh, only 5 career starts and only horse in the field to win on this track.

-Trainer is Nick Zito, who ironically is also the trainer of the ML/clear post-time favorite Ice Box(Fly Down's stablemate btw). Zitto has been quoted that he will not infuence how his two horses race against each other and will let it play out naturally...so no collusion is going to occur here.

-Back to Ice Box, sure he's probably the best horse in the field and should be the favorite; but he will be significantly overbet. Lack of speed in this race really hurts Ice here. If he's more than 4-5 lengths back at the start of the backstretch, I don't see him having a chance of winning with how slow this 1st mile with be. The one advantage he has here is 6 post so he should be in a good position going around the 1st turn(4th/5th place is a good postion for him here). Simply put though, betting him at 2-1 or worse which he will likely go off as is burning $$$ IMHO

This is how I see the race going down. Early leaders will be First Dude and UptownCharlyBrown, with Fly Down and Ice Box running somewhere in the top 6 not many lenghts behind. The key of the race comes down to the far turn where my boy Fly Down gains ground big-time(which is his style and strengh that he has shown in his previous races)....hopefully here he beats Ice Box to the punch and will have enough acceleration with this move to hold off Ice Box and yet another game effort from First Dude down the stretch.

Trifecta 1.Fly Down 2.First Dude 3.Ice Box

Would box Fly Down/First Due exacta because if pace is slow enough which is highly likely...First Dude could go wire-to-wire here. Sorry so long....good luck on whoever you decide to go with.

-Steve

Every year this day I suddenly remember than not only did Secretariat destroy the field, but he ran negative splits the entire 1.5mi, which seems unreal.

I love Fly Down and Game On Dude.

Ice Box failing to switch leads in the Derby scares the bejesus out of me and if he fails to do the same today there's a real possibility he could pull up lame or even break down today going for 12 furlongs.
