Hi,

I am very glad I found this horseracing thread. Actually, I am thrilled. Let me introduce myself. My names Jay. I am 22 and have been following horses the past 5 years. I live 5 minutes from Arlington Park. Like many of you, I have had my ups and downs when it comes to wagering on horses. I like to spend what I can afford, but sometimes cross the boundary. My biggest cash to date was 2 years ago, at Del Marr. I hit a pick six for $16kish. My father in law really got me into horseracing. He knows his stuff, and even gets some insider information at Arlington. My father in law knows Frank Kirby, a trainer at AP. Hes known him from back in the day. Every once in awhile, Frank gives tips on horses to my father in law. Pretty neat, but to be honest, my father in law takes his tips for a grain of salt. Ha. His tips are not so called "hot tips". My g/f hates everything about horseracing. I wager every weekend on xpressbet, and occasionaly hit a nice pick3/pick4. Shes estatic when I hit big, but other than that, doesn't care to listen to my stories/excitement. She won't even get excited going into the last leg of a pick 4. It's the way it is and I can accept that. Im glad I found this forum so I can finally share my stories/beats/failure/success with others who love the sport like myself! I've read alot of posts and I hope to gain lots of knowledge from you older guys. I truly have a heart felt passion for horses.

Jay

I am particularly looking forward to sharing thoughts on exacta, trifecta, superfecta, DD bets. I bet strictly win bets, pick 3, pick 4, pick 5, pick 6 bets. I need to gain knowledge when it comes to exacta, tri, super, dd betting. I hope to gain it here!

LOL, welcome Jay!

My wife is the same way.. she just wants to know if I score anything worth while.. she can't stand the sweat. I even pause the TiVo and say stuff like "we need the 7 here for about a grand" and she's like yeah whatever.. tell me when you win.

It is early but I am interested in the 5: FLY DOWN a.k.a. Zito's second horse. He is fresh and should be in position to get first run. Also first time JR. Excellent breeding for the 12f.

I think First Dude could give it up in the stretch.

Also hard to believe Ice Box doesn't hit the ticket, even coming from way back.

I'm starting to feel like there are going to be 2-3 horses where you lose money on the exacta doing this.

I posted 5 weeks ago that SS wouldnt win the triple crown, and when i won with LAL in the Preakness,i said that day i liked Ice Box in the Belmont. I dont think he is the only horse to give a look at,i like Uptowncharliebrown some as well, but i think the distance and the rest suits IB perfect in the Belmont, imo.

Carryover Friday night at Hollywood also, expected to reach 1 million in the PK6 pool,i think it has a good chance to carry again into saturday myself. On Saturdays card my name sake Call Me Honcho is back on the grass going 6f,seems to always hit the board at a price, and on Sundays card i believe its TheWalk's horse he likes Trumpet Player Jay is going 7f on the Synth.

Belmont Saturday Race 10 - Woodford Reserve Manhattan 1 1/4 on turf.

I love the 9 horse Just as Well. He looks to be sitting on a big race coming in off a nice effort at Pimlico. If Gio Ponti is not resurrected yet - this looks like the horse with the best shot at this distance.

Talk to me before I load up on this one...

I haven't fully handicapped Saturday's card yet, but I'll tell you what I think as of now...

In your defense, Jonathan Sheppard is excellent on getting longer turf distances for older horses (7Yo here). Can't knock Desormeaux either.

Court Vision, Grand Couturier, and Winchester all ran their best figures on turf with some give in it, and without rain @ Belmont (yet), the turf is as firm as it gets.

Last, but not least, your battling Gio Ponti. Legit horse of the year contender last year and reigning turf champion comes in from Dubai in the very capable hands of Christophe Clemente. Even on a bad day he gets a chance to take this down. I'd say if your covered in a exacta saver or with a straight place or win/place bet on Just as Well it would cut into potential profits, but increase likelihood of ROI.

TBH, I think bet structuring is key here to protect with exactas/triples, but still be able to capitalize on a live horse at good odds facing elite company. What's your betting strategy in this race?

Just got back from a week long vacation and somehow there was $1,207 in my youbet account. Probably the biggest surprise of my life. I forgot I had put in a pk4 at IND before I left, and was totally expecting my account to be zero. So, what else to do, but donk off a nice .50 pk5 at Monmouth today. Here goes:

6) 1,6,8,9
7) 3,4,6,7
8) 1,6
9) 5,6
10) 2,3

Total of $64. Gl all.

Honch, thanks for the heads up on Call me Honcho and Trumpet Player Jay.

I am thinking about firm turf being a big help to Just as Well - see races last summer at Arlington. Also I can't bet Gio Ponti on top until he wins again. And to bring him back from that very tough 2009 campaign they send him to Dubai? not smart imo.

I am going to single him in a big pick-4 bet, kind of a go for broke strategy but that is how I do it sometimes. Saver bets = not my specialty. If the pick-4 is somehow not live in this third leg I will figure something out on the fly...

Honestly, I'd be shocked if it did.

I constructed a ticket that will get me out of this 2010 hole, imo.

HOLLYWOOD PARK $2 pick six Friday Late Night!

3) 8
4) 1-2-6
5) 1-3-7
6) 2-9-11-12
7) 3
8) 1-5-7-9

$288 wagered

YTD (-4538)

Ticket not submitted.. waiting for scratches. Will post again by first post.

Big pick-4, eh? I like it because it is clearly defined and can bring home a huge pay-out. My only comment would be to have a plan for the non-live pick 4 eventuality so that you are not scrambling to get in a multi-tiered wager on a crazy day/competitive race. GL!

F*ck! That was a sweat, during the 5 minute stewards inquiry becuase Krypton had bore in and bumped 2-5 Nordic Truce towards the rail, all I could think about was "rubbing is racing" ...

Thankfully, this held up...

Now, to root home Gangbuster in the Brooklyn Handicap and handicap the rest of the Belmont Stakes card... Anyone else going to Belmont tomorrow?

Brooklyn - Belmont Daily Double:

$10 DD 3/3,5,6 =$30
$5 DD 4/3,5,6 =$15
$2 DD 6/3,5,6 =$6
$5 DD 3/6 =$5

Total $56. Really would like Gangbuster (3) here to kick it off.

Thanks bud. Here is the ticket I am thinking of playing...

2,3,6,8,9 with 2,3,5,6,7,8,10,12,13 with 9 with 5,6.

Zito owes me.

Edit: if this ticket is not live into the third leg then...I suck!

Hey guys,

Never posted in horse racing thread before but I got a tip today I want to pass along. I have also never posted a horse/sports/stock etc etc pick ever before.
Back story is I offered Calvin Borel an endorsement deal for a company I represent. His agent Jerry passed. So today I spoke to Jerry and he was telling me how he felt bad about passing on the deal and gave me a tip for tomorrow.

Churchill race 6

1 horse mayas mystery trained by P byrne.

The horse is 4-1 ML but there are 2 logical faves in the race at 8-5 and 2-1 so maya could be a price.

Good luck whatever you do, I will be betting it of course

Sorry, it was really an all family thing.. we only stayed for races 1-5 and I was chasing kids around all day!

I know Belmont has a pk6 carryover tomorrow and a guarantee.. but, i would lean towards playing the 1 million dollar guaranteed pk 4 instead.. value is already there, imo.
