Had a decent Derby other than being rained on for 6 hours. I had a rainjacket, the wife bought a full rain suit on the sly so I was the one with soaked pants and she was totally waterproof.

Traffic wasn't bad for a change because of the weather. (If you've never been, Churchill Downs is in the middle of blue collar neighborhoods and you usually have to park in Bubba's back yard for $20. But I found free street parking this time).

Saw some fans coming out of the infield that reminded me of pictures of Woodstock '98 or whatever. Looks like it was the mudwrestling championships down there. One girl fell into me drunk and got me muddy as well. Classic.

Hit an exacta on an early race and had Ice Box and American Lion across so I cashed a decent ticket and won a little on the day (first Derby in the positive in years).

Do you guys play the carryover pick 6 money? Is it a profitable spot? I was thinking of re-investing my Ice Box ticket and going back on Thursday praying for sun.

Interesting Bodog has Super Saver +250

Well what do you guys think?

I guess since 8/1 odds in Kentucky Derby over a sloppy track. But come post time I am pretty sure Super Saver will be less than 2/1 odds.

What else would Calvin Borel say but that this is the year I'm going to do it! He ofcourse won't say he is going to lose or something. But I really believe he is serious and feels good about this horse and his chances.

I also feel we are going to see a Triple Crown winner this year.

Super Saver should win the Preakness.

Oh yah I wonder the guy who put $100,000 to win on Super Saver in Derby is comming back with another $100,000 on Super Saver in Preakness.

Almost $1M pk6 carryover tomorrow at churchill. Experts say it could get up to $3M pot. Good luck to those that play.

By the way, this thread is the nuts.

If by chance someone reputable (i.e. kevroc) is playing this p6 and wants to deflect some of the cost & variance of a big ticket, I'm interested in buying a % for sweat purposes. PM if so.

Hey vet.. I just finished pouring over it.

I find it insanely difficult.

I decided not to bet the ranch and just go with a modest ticket of around 250.

If I was going for 600+ then I'd try to lay some off but, honestly it probably wont be much of a sweat.

The ticket I have drawn up at the present time is..

6 x 2 x 1 x 5 x 1 x 2 = $240

Quite thin, imo.

Regarding the state of NYC OTB

Quote:
From WNYC

Like Sandy Frucher, the man chosen last year to resuscitate New York City OTB as its new chairman.

"People have described it to me as a gathering of, sort of, people who are down on their luck or losers or whatever," Frucher says.

We're sitting in his home -- a five-story townhouse decorated with antique Chinese vases and tapestries. Frucher says he doesn't like gambling much. He saves his betting for the stock market. But he says he still knows exactly what OTB's problem is. It needs an image makeover.

"In England, horse racing is the sport of kings," Frucher says. "In the United States, it used to be 'National Velvet.' Now, the picture is some poor folks who've had some bad luck, standing in front of a deteriorating, ugly, rotten OTB parlor."

So Frucher has a plan: Change the demographic of OTB customers. He says the current customer base is dying out: 92 percent male, average age of 55. The demographic of OTB's future will look a lot different when he's done with it, he says: younger, hipper, richer. And, a lot more female.

This is Sandy Frucher's vision: twenty-something-year-old girls dancing under chandeliers in trendy bars -- betting on horses in between cocktail sips. In six months, Frucher hopes to install self-service Internet betting terminals at bars like the Village Lantern at Bleecker and Sullivan to replace the OTB parlors he'll shut down.

The Village Lantern is only a 10-minute walk from the Varick Street parlor, which is likely to close since it's one of the less profitable branches in the city. Tonight, one of the Lantern's customers, Shannon Phelan, says she'd gamble if there were OTB terminals in here. She says it sounds like a great excuse to get drunk and yell. "Because that would be hysterical!" Phelan says. "Are you kidding? You are drunk, you whip your money down, you cheer on a horse -- that would be great."
