You were still on the right horses, though. That's good to see.

Which site are you playing those at (or conditionally playing at?!)?

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

Keeneland - Race 9

#8 Perfect Shirl (6/1 ml)

Half-sister to the highly talented turf star Shakespeare looked very good in her debut for Roger Attfield down at Gulfstream, racing inside while several lengths off the pace and then moving up into the lane full of run, but she had nowhere to go and was forced to wait for room. Finally got an opening late and came surging very strongly at the wire to take second, impressive by itself but even more so when you consider that she was debuting around two turns and seemed to be just be getting started at the end of the race. Might have something to do with her breeding, and Attfield has an incredible record with horses debuting at a mile or longer, but whatever the case it definitely bodes well for the stretchout to 1 3/16 miles here. The surface switch is a concern, but she has reportedly looked good training over the polytrack, and we already had a nice winner who was shipping in from a Gulfstream turf race earlier in the meet. Castellano gets on board today, and he's already ridden a winner for Attfield from just two previous mounts, that being a 4/1 shot right here @ Keeneland. Looks very live; should be tough with a better trip and the extra conditioning under her belt.

I swear I know people like to say this often but I am so serious...if Dublin wins the KD or even finishes well I won't gamble on horse racing for 2 months. This horse is such a rat pos I never bet him one single time and I seen Dublin run 4x everytime I knew he had no chance. Horse hangs way too much. But gotta respect trainer.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

Sidney’s Candy FTW! Smokin' Joe Talamo!!!!

Also...Smokin' Joe Talamo is at Keenland today he has 2 mounts. First time ever at Keenland on a 20:1 shot and 3:1 for Todd P.

I don't like Joe Talamo's first mount on 20:1 shot obv it's just for him to get a feel for the track so he probably gonna ride like crap. Gonna win on the 3:1 shot!

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

Call Me Honcho tonight at HOL.

Race 1; Horse #7

Get's a little more distance tonight at 6.5 Furlongs but it's against a decent field. I think this could be the night he breaks his maiden. I'll have him in all of my exotics.

GL Honch.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

Tailed your early and late plays, but only made the 1 bet myself on Honcho with the conditional set. I have talked to Kev about it,what i like to do is watch the 1st 3 Night cards to see what horses take to the lights,trainers,etc...then i will start to hit it pretty hard. I mean i could be wrong,i dont do much of anything conventional, but thats how i like doing it. GL Walk.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

You might take a look at Simple Words in Race 7 @ Churchill. Her gate workout at Sam Houston was almosta full second faster than the next fastest drill at the distance that day, and she suubsequently worked heads-up with her stakes-winning barnmate Heart Ashley over the local surface. Well-bred for mud, also. Should run well.

Thanks Honch. Frustrating night last night. Had the track well-handicapped, but bet it very poorly. Ended up losing some money. I have to learn how to bet better.

Just to bring up a topic that might gain some interest (might not), I have found it the hardest to handicap a horse off of a layoff. What "keys" should I be looking for for some of those horses that were fairly successful even at higher classes, they end up dropping down a little, but haven't raced for a year or so. Any tips in that department? I know it's not "one size fits all", but I feel as if I never know how to handle them.

Got bet down to 2/1 from a 9/2 morning line, broke slowly but moved up between horses to challenge and was sitting in second just off the leader turning for home. Really flattened out through the stretch though and finished off the board. Might not have handled the going, hard to say.

Dont sweat last night Walk, everyone has days like that. As for your layoff question i can only give you my angle/experience i use. It is usually based on individual trainers more than it is the horse itself for the most part. I just remember things well, such as when i watch HRTV online, the commentators often mention how a trainer is running at 33% 1st off the claim on grass for example,or a trainer stats with horses with 4 or more months off,i just remember it,hard to explain. I know there is info like that when you buy a DRF online, has at a closer look,analysis,etc.... i just dont ever look or print them myself, but the information is there. Like i said im not very conventional,i just trust myself and what i know, and or what i think is right. I also look thru the running lines on the PP's to see if a horse has had a longer layoff before, and how it fired when it made its first start back.

I also only listen to HRTV when i know im going to be a horse fan for the day and not wagering,or just have a conditional wager set. The days i am playing my rolling wagers and exotics,i use calracing for the live feed hooked up thru my PS3 to my tv,just like being at the track with the simulcast feed,or the video option thru Twinspires. My reason is i dont care what anyone else has to say,or want to hear it to be honest,i trust myself. Anyways hope i helped sorry for the long answer to a short question.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

from Daily Racing Form:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Eskendereya will not run in the 136th Kentucky Derby on Saturday at Churchill Downs, trainer Todd Pletcher said Sunday morning.

"He's got some filling. We're not sure of the extent of what we re dealing with. But he's not going to run," Pletcher said at 8:55 a.m. Eastern on Sunday.

Pletcher had a press conference scheduled for 9:30 a.m., at which time more information regarding his Derby starters was expected to be revealed.

Eskendereya was the acknowledged favorite for the Derby, based on runaway victories in the Fountain of Youth and Wood Memorial. John Velazquez was scheduled to ride Eskendereya. There is now the possibility that Velaquez may ride the Pletcher-trained filly, Devil May Care, in the Derby.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

Good stuff Honcho. As always, I appreciate the help.

Brag: Hit the Early Pk4 at HOL yesterday
Beat: Spent $60 and won $86 (or so). Good Times!!!

Sad to hear about Eskendereya, that opens the KD up a tad more, eh?
