yeah given the platform (ky derby) that had to be one of the most awe inspiring stretch runs. i thought it was apparent to the naked eye coming around the turn (and what you'd expect given fractions) that TLL was moving up comfortably and was going to distance 4-6 lengths from rest of field. he almost did that, but authentic hung in really bizarre fashion. my default assumption would be baffert wonderdrugs but it did seem like speed was holding tough... anyone see serengetti empress? crazy ****, especially given how hard authentic had to sprint to make hte lead. wow.

Contract bullshit leading up to the Derby had a lot to do with that... Along with the attendance at not only Churchill but every other track that holds Derby Day parties.

I honestly think it was one of the better stretch runs that I can remember. With the Derby I've gotten so used to the pace setter not being able to hold up. It was nice to see a horse who at the turn was probably 20-1 in-game not lose his lead and hold on. Very game performance.

I find it odd year after year the early speed doesn't fade. IDK how these horses go 46 and then don't get run down late but I guess thats what happens when the best horses normally make the lead.

BTW TTL ran a great race. The winning time was 12 lengths better than American pharoah so it was a solid time for the race. Mr big news was a shock to me for a clunk up to 3rd. I tend to liberally include horses underneath when i make tris with a favorite in 1st...... I didn't include mr big news on any tickets due to fact his pps looked pretty bad.

he paid $3.20 to show almost as much as he would have paid if he had won - $3.40.................................(-:/

new ridiculousness from twinspires.com

maybe it's not so new - I just noticed it a few days ago

next to the odds they display a number under the abbreviation PL

I had never before heard of PL

here is the Twin Spires explanation:

"Profit Line odds are provided for all North American thoroughbred races (not available for harness and foreign races). There are countless ways to use Profit Line to help you make winning bets. The horse with the lowest Profit Line odds is deemed to be the most likely winner according to Profit Line."

so, basically they claim they are giving the true odds on the entries
and I seriously doubt they have adjusted them after scratches not that it matters

so, I scoped it out and it looked totally out of whack to me - absolutely useless

it looks like they are trying to show cappers how helpful they are but in reality this thing is anything but helpful

I'm looking for info about stewards foul/interference rules for the different race tracks. I have found this from NYRA tracks

Quote:
With regard to interference, New York is a “Category 2” state, meaning that Commission rules provide that if the interferer is guilty of causing interference and such interference in the judgment of the Stewards has altered the finish of the race, then the interferer is placed behind the offended horse. The Stewards consider whether the riders of the horse or horses that are offended continue to give effort to the finish of the race. The Stewards also consider whether the offending jockey acted in a willful or careless manner while interfering with another horse or jockey, for which the interferer may be disqualified, i.e., placed last or unplaced in the order of finish. For example, if an offending jockey acts in a dangerous manner, exhibits extremely improper riding or impedes several horses, the Stewards may disqualify the offending horse without regard to the specific effect of the foul on the order of finish.
How many other "Categories" are there? What are the rules for them? What states/race tracks deploy the various categories.

Thanks for any help.

Betfair quitting New Jersey

(Avg in-play traded volume is $5k-$8k a race in USA, compared to $200k+ in Europe)

this was my first result from google

Quote:
There are currently two different approaches to adjudicating interference used in racing jurisdictions around the world

Category 1 states that Judges and Stewards may disqualify a horse only if it improved its finishing position because of that interference, or in cases of dangerous riding.

The Category 2 approach provides Judges and Stewards with the authority to disqualify a horse if, in their opinion, it interfered with another horse regardless of whether the interference was accidental, willful, or the result of careless riding.

that sucks. i dk how they were going to get a market going in new jersey alone (~10% of population as UK, and probably lower ratio of horseplayers and punters on the whole). really think they could be successful if they got a nationwide pool going.

Kinda off topic here but anyone here think they have the derby the first week of may in 2021? I think this years derby was awesome and all however I'm really hoping they have it in May in 2021 bc I feel its lame in the fall / messes up all normal race schedules (the travers, etc).

I think they may have it the 1st weekend of may if no fans are allowed and there is no expectation of fans later in the year. I think money will trump all and they will push it back again in 2021 though bc the derby prolly generates so much money for that area and on track betting, etc.

so many unknowns for us as citizens and as sports fans.
like will the NHL regular season resume and when.
will baseball make it.
will football keep rolling, the Pats by governors order cannot have fans for the month of September.
Oct still no word....
My guess is they will want to hold it in May and take a wait and see approach and decide year end

Feeling solid on this wager and having a solid start to BC Weekend. Do want to say this regarding the political wager...

I help out a lot of elderly neighbors where i live well because i can and i like to do it the decent feeling of helping someone else. I never asked or even needed to know their political opinion it matter not to me as an American we each are entitled our own opinions and i am not going to stop helping or caring for my neighbors because of any outcome that comes out,i hope they also feel the same and we ourselves can conduct ourselves with common courtesy and dignity.

Good luck to anyone playing today. I'll post some jk thoughts.

I like Yaupon in the dirt sprint. Horse is young but has speed in a race that looks to have no real insane early speed for a 6 furlong race. The jocks will prolly get aggro though so this may change. I like Diamond oops, cz rocket, collusion illusion, franks rockette if you wanna take a stand against yaupon but feel pace favors that horse (will be favorite though)

Turf- I have no idea really. I like oleksandra in the sprint however shes a deep closer in a 5.5 turf race and has been off a while since the jaipur. I love joel rosario being on her bc hes great at timing a late run. Obv like the other 3 top chalk with better early speed but I might play oleksandra for a flyer bet. She has an insane turn of foot and really can tag them if the pace is fast and she gets a clean trip. I'm worried about the layoff though for her.

Most of the turf races, I have no idea whether to go US or EUROs. I think euros in the big turf race before the classic at 1.5 miles but would say go US in the earlier races. I think rushing fall could be tough to beat at keeneland. hmm love me some uni/raging bull in the other turf however I tend to inflate chad brown horses on turf.

Classic- I think its between 4 horses. I would say tiz the law, max security, improbable, and toms d'etat. I like Toms d'etat the most at his morning price of 6-1. Think tiz the law will get poor inside trip, authentic lost to a filly in preakness which downgrades the horse, improbable beat toms d'etat after a poor start in the whitney. Toms d'etat made up ground in that race when the pace was crawling so i really like that horse if he gets better trip. Max security has some nice early speed and is an older baffert horse so can't go against this horse.

Have a pick 6/5/4 play already in but kinda worried because they are highly correlated. If monomoy girl/ swiss skydiver lose, I lose. I feel that race is the eastiest of the sequence. I like swiss skydiver to beat monomoy but I feel including those 2 in your ticket is basically a free square kinda in pick 4 pick 5 pick6 plays.

Note on yesterday- HAd a pick 5 where I singled the first race with chalky golden pal. Ugh I went super deep in the 2nd turf leg (maybe like 8-9 deep) and didn't include the eventual 30-1 winner fire at will. I was never going to hit the pick 5 as i was wrong in others but i was bummed not to get out of 2nd leg going so deep. As always, I'm not sure why I play pick5s and pick6s. I tend to go chalky most of the time so even if i hit, they tend to never pay and I always have stories of not going deep enough/ losing at a high clip in these plays and I tend to play $100-300 tickets too often.

Also on Tom's D'etat at 6-1 here.

edit: just saw he's 7-2, so waiting to bet him.

Definitely a bit on By My Standards around 27-1.

On a scale from Nicaraguan to English Premier League soccer, how efficient are the UK horse racing markets (Betfair)?

Betting markets tend to be efficient like the stock market. I would say euro betting markets obv prolly overprice euro turf horses but euro turf horses tend to be better than American turf horses. At 1.5 miles, I would favor euros.
