Was listening to BB interview on HRN today. BB stated that Dortmund does not like the track at Santa Anita, he likes Churchill and that should make a 5 length difference. I'm not quoting this because I don't remember the exact verbiage but my rendition is pretty darn close. I was really surprised to hear him make a comment like that. Any thoughts? The interview took place in the last half hour of today's show.

i'm keying Dortmund. Prob fading AP on all tickets. if he airs, i'll unload on him in the preakness. visually watching the races he was much more impressive than what it looks after the fact, imo. all of his wins he benefited from pace setups. Dortmund in the SA Derby gate to wired a really hot pace. Bris figs arent overly impressive for AP, much better for Dortmund even with negative pace scenario. usually horses run their top figures when they get easy lead or run into hot paces, and AP's top is below par. Dortmund has a better post draw, too. fading me is the top angle in horse racing so AP probably wins but i'm playing against him.

I'd much rather ask Baffert if Bayern is good.

Edit to say: I will be fading you.

Just turned on Byk today 9-12 est because i am set with the Derby and i heard Travis Stone saw it like i did. Liked Steve had fellow horseplayers on Nick Tamm and John Kitchen and hearing what they had to say. JK i heard speak 2 weeks back on nightschool and he sounds similar to myself in approach and work ethic.

Get to your post though aph i had heard this through a 3rd party that BB felt this way about Dort and the SA track but nice to hear it from BB himself you say tonight.

Last couple of days have been a blast in the HRT and really liked hearing everyone's different opinion on the race and the card the next 2 days and look forward to 2 more fun days as well.

All tourney maxed on Saturday i wont know to wind my butt and scratch my watch but i have a pretty solid game plan i believe going into it. Got in the DW 25K CHD game on saturday also B3 not sure if you Q'd or bought in but look forward to seeing you on there.

Give my fight pick for Saturday night also tomorrow

Oh ya pdiggz glad you made the party man and your post at the end cracked me up. "Dont cut yourself short judge your a tremendous slouch" ;]

Dortmund has a win at Churchill so it kind of makes sense. BUT....This is part of the reason why I'm not going anywhere near Dortmund... If he truly doesn't like the track and he swept the preps at SA.... What's that say about the competition? Sure you can look at it the other way and say he's just that good but the avg size prep field at SA was 7 horses (5,10,6). Not sold at all.... Especially at 3/1.

Who are you on then for the KYD B3? I do not even take to count Dortmund's odds i am just picking who i think will win. Obv there is limited $$ to be made with Dort as a W wager but if you can get the right horse on top there is plenty of leverage there to make some nice exotic scores.

Capping now throw some picks up later...Looking to have a good Oaks day hope everyone itt has one as well.

I'm going with Carpe Diem. 8-1 ML early betting showing he could go off with double digit odds. Throw in Johnny V and the fact that he's never threw in a clunker... tons of value IMO.

Thoughts on materiality? If he had more experience would he be getting more betting respect or is it a talent thing?

Best site for an American (GA) to bet horses? couldnt sign up at twinspires or w.e. I have always used bovada in the past but do not want to use them this race.

Tough area for sure but your either going to have to lay through a book or move. GA not horse friendly and just nixed a bill recent to bring it back.

FTR race # 6 today at CHD should read 1-4-5

Good luck everybody. This derby is a better one than the last imo. Let's get on with my cap and picks.

Coming out of the 1,2 hole together are old race buddies from keeneland last out, carpe diem and ocho ocho ocho. I think they both benefitted from that race, and it's a natural for them to lock up early, around the turn, and thru 3/4 of a mile again. This is one spot where the rail is more of an advantage than a disadvantage. There is plenty of speed today, but any chasers to those two horses will use up ground and energy to either join them, or try and make steal of it. If they can slow the pace together just a little after the first turn straightens out, and spread out a little wide down the backside, they are just adding to there advantage.

One of my keys will be carpe diem, one of my value plays will be ocho ocho ocho. I love the maturity and solid training improvements of carpe diem.

My other key will be dortmund. He is going too good right now, he has matured early compared to most of the rest of the field, and he has tons of natural ability.

Two more value plays, bolo, the trainer has credibility in my eyes, she has good horse people working for her, the long odds, and i was looking for a horse to be around down the long stretch if it gets super heated on the front end. If he can get the distance, the pace may set him up for some clean up at the end. A female trainer winning the derby is a win win for the sport. Will need some luck though.

My last value play will be gary stevens, and firing line. This race is wide open on so many levels, and stevens probably already has a few plans worked out already for the different scenarios that might play out. He is a good fit with this horse in this spot. Firing line may not be as talented as cd, ap and dortmund, but he is no quitter in the stretch. Has dortmund within reach.

I'm not playing American Pharoah in the derby. Don't get me wrong, we will see him again shortly, and in the long run, he is too good of a horse. Just not for me in this spot.

Summing it up, my keys will be carpe diem, and dortmund. Playing those two and ocho ocho ocho, bolo and firing line in some mix and match tickets.

Good luck , the best of luck to everybody. This is going to be a fun race to watch and arm chair quarterback on saturday night. This is the first year I have wanted to drive up to Churchill in a long time to see the race.

My hats off to you guys that follow the races more than I do, and are in the groove today. To those of you keying American Pharoah , I hear ya. Let's see him set the triple crown race on fire this year.

It's a total value play. We all know Phaorah is the one to beat but I cant justify that price in a race this deep. Pharoah is already down to 2-1... As the money keeps rolling in he is going to keep clicking... He might go off at 8-5. **** even Smarty was 4-1 in the Derby.

Glad to see this thread lives. Well boys, I have a question. My local book has the following fixed odds posted for the Oaks.

FWIW, I only bet mid to long priced horses and I am wondering if there is any value in betting the longshots NOW.. as opposed to waiting to see the odds move and your overall general thoughts on fixed odds.

Oaks:

13001 FOREVER UNBRIDLED +1500
13002 SHOOK UP +3500
13003 INCLUDE BETTY +2100
13004 ESKENFORMONEY +1800
13005 CONDO COMMANDO +400

Thoughts on bayern? The way he looked in the woody Stephens last year, think he is a great horse to back for a sprint. Feel like he's a solid single for pick 3 and 4 bets. Just not sure bc this is his first race after a layoff

Don't make win bets can't help. But You can also get shorted the other way as well. But it looks Puca will take a little more play than that. If you're making a big enough win bet it matters to ya.
