Tough break for Hoppertunity for sure I think this horse had a good shot and good post. Nothing has changed my mind on CC (and CC=California Chrome itt)

just took a quick look at the pp's. from what i see chitu and wildcat red gonna be the early speed. with a good break THE CHROME will sit right behind till go time. my brother says look out for espinoza in gate 5 to take THE CHROME wire to wire. i hope this isnt the case but he believes it. I think if he does, the west coast can show that true speed which will put chitu and chrome up 3 lenghts plus after the first turn and on their way.

fwiw....I was hanging out at the farm yesterday a.m. and one of our vets showed up to xray one of the t-breds training there. at some point talk turned to the derby, and he (the vet) said he had talked to a vet school friend who works at cd, and word on the backside was that cal chrome wasn't looking all that great. heard good things about danza. additionally, I saw a video on drf this morning that was less than glowing about cal chrome.

now from my own point of view, I have been a little skeptical about chrome from a breeding and competition standpoint.

* all of his races run in socal
* 6 of 10 starts in restricted company (I think) 6 of 10 on poly/awt
* sa derby was impressive, but that track plays super fast most days it seems
* breeding is very suspect in my mind
* Espinosa is a decent enough rider, but not at the top of my list.(feel the same about maragh on wicked strong)

anyway I will be betting against, using some combo of intense holiday, samraat, medal count, and chrome underneath. along with another one or two.

which means California chrome will win by 10 lengths.

Go Rosie in the opener. Let's get off to a good start. There is a light, cool breeze today at CD. Will gust to 20-25 mph tomorrow afternoon. Headwind in the stretch.

Chrome doesn't seem to be handling the travel very well. Could be a terrible mistake by Sherman not bringing him over earlier. Judging by what I've seen the last couple days of gallops, he seems to get worked up very easily, constantly looking around. He just seems totally out of his element and unfocused, and I was all over this horse as of Monday. I don't even think they've let him truly stretch his legs out. Fully expecting him to run up the track at this point.

That leaves me with Danza as the horse to beat, he's very much reminded me of Animal Kingdom in his works leading into the derby. Not a big Bravo fan, but he should get a pretty comfortable spot early.

Will have some combo of Wicked Strong/Tapiture/Medal Count/Dance With Fate/Vinceremos!!....on the fence with Uncle Sigh and General a Rod
