It's just a bad thing harness racing, the horses break way to easily. Two days ago at the Meadowlands the first two races it was a 2-5 and a 4-5 shot...both of them broke at the start. It's just way to dangerous to bet serious money on there. Better off playing Pick 3's and Pick 4's on flats at tracks like Gulfstream, Keenland and Tampa. You will get huge payouts at all of those tracks.

The Papelmousse has a tendon issue that caused Canani to pull him.

Yep, I just found this thread and I will be here for awhile if nobody minds .
Ofcourse, Keenland is by far the #1 track in the USA. Best payouts, largest fields, best horses. Not to mention tuffest to pick a winner at as you stated.

Koker70 glad you found it,been just Kev and i for awhile. Have a feeling Kev is going to be sick tonight after his single didnt pan, because hes got the rest covered i believe, and just caught a 20-1 in the 9th on a dead ticket.

Should of had my kids pick my card today, couldnt of done much worse, but im not the only 1 im sure with these kind of crooked double digit #'s going up in the W column.

lol, thanks for the props but, it wasnt so much handicapping as throwing out the also rans and finding a single.

Five grand would have been a nice way to go into Derby time.. oh well.. taking a couple weeks off.. gonna be busy with work, we are shorthanded.. good luck everyone.

Noob Trip Report, tldr:

Woke up late and then got stuck in backed up traffic involving a motorcycle crash. Finally got to the track for the 5th race, but it looked pretty lame because it was one of those maiden claimers where hardly any of the horses had PP's. I decided the best strategy was to pick the most expensive horse, so I chose the one that cost $320k... I bet $2 WPS and it went off at 23-1 (I think it was 8:1 ML) and won by like a length and a half. Ship it.

I was sad to hear Pamplemousse scratched, but I was going to pick Pioneer anyway so this just made the decision easier. I did a $1 pick3 with 4/3,8/2 then a $5 W bet on Pioneer and 4/1,5,9/1,5,9 trifecta ticket. Boom, boom, boom, I'm genius.

Next race I had $5 WPS on the 8 and a EXB with 8/3. Said FML as I couldn't see either coming down the stretch until I see the 8 tear off the rail as the clear winner. This solidified my position as greatest handicapper of all time and I was ready to dig into some pick4's.

Spent $48 on p4's, keying Halo on all of my tickets, had #6 in half of them and 1,4 in only one. Obv $48 went up in flames with that upset, though it was irrelevant when another longshot won the next race. In the 10th I picked the 10 horse to WPS, and the 11 (who went off @ 30-1) to place. 10 was OTM, 11 finished 3rd, though if the track was like 10 yards longer he wouldve won.

Decided to stay for the last race, WPS on the 9, he somehow got the best of a photo finish even though it looked like a clear win for the longshot to me. Profited $56.60, bought dinner and movie with the proceeds and it was a lot of fun.

Harness racing is a completely different animal,

but what about when your runner gets left at the gate or bumped hard and squeezed back by the 40-1 shot next door?

great thread...hopefully it will remain active.

mini tr for keeneland 4/3 & 4/4

left from chicago at the crack of dawn and arrived at keeneland about an hour before race one. the weather turned out to be cool and breezy, which probably kept down the opening day attendance. the physical plant isn't the best, but it is a neat country setting, with a certain charm of its own. nothing to note betting wise. we each cashed a few tickets, and including our play on the late tracks (SA and GG), we all ended modestly down for the day. we were the last 3 people to leave the track.

saturday...after handicapping the sat. races late into the night we felt good about our chances going into saturday. we got to the track about an hour and a half b4 first post and got our seats( a bench) right in front of the main giant t.v. srceen and near one of the two finish lines. we were close to everything we needed, windows, concessions, bathrooms and the track. that was all fine, until the crowd started showing up. what a zoo. lines for beer, food, betting, and bathrooms were beyond ridiculous. we managed to hit a few winners including the early pick 4($455ish), and had a shot at the late pick 4, but our single(#7) in the final race never fired. i think had we hit, we were looking at about $4500, according to the tote board. that miss turned out to be crucial as we couldn't afford to play the late p4 ticket we wanted at santa anita.( which hit) my buddies the got it rubbed in their faces a little more when they got nosed out on their pick3 at sa's last race. once again we were amongst the last people to leave the track.

in the end we had a nice time, and didn't get beat up to badly.
the good...quality racing, beautiful setting, lots of pretty girls, ok weather. actually saturday was really nice, sunny and mid 70's???
the bad...way too crowded on saturday, didn't win.
