ďThis filly is just unbelievable," Borel enthused. "I canít say how good she is. I donít know. I gave her a few taps at the sixteenth pole, thatís it. I just wanted to keep her focused with a couple of taps. She started looking around at the crowd, so I just kept her busy to the wire; kept her focused.

ďI really didnít ask her for much run," he added. "We have not gotten to the bottom of her, thatís for sure. Sheís an amazing athlete and Iím glad that I get to ride her.Ē

I kinda figured that he just wanted to keep her to task. I still cannot believe she went off @ 1-2...what a steal. The only time you will see 1-2 again on RA is if she loses a race or if she runs in Breeders Cup.

Also dunno why Larry Collmus (Monmouth Announcer) didn't say "And their into the stretch." He usually says it every year for the Haskell.

This was a classic Saratoga day for me. While killing time leading up to Decelerator in the Schuylerville, I ended up killing the undercard (3-for-3). I had a sizable parlay on 2 cold winners (Get Stormy ($7.90) in the 4th and Westover Wildcat ($6.60) in the 7th). Then in the 8th, I took $100 off the voucher by keying 7-1 Captain Rio in exactas with the 2 horses that figured and punched a 10x $81.00 exacta.

Before the odds were posted on Decelerator, I was positioned to make this a 4 figure bet with house money. I fought with my Thorograph sheets all the way up until post time. On second glance, I ended up coming to the same conclusion about Hot Dixie Chick as you did. I still liked the 3 & 10 to improve off their efforts, and concluded Decelerator might not even be fighting for 2nd. THAT SAID, I struggled with the fact that I had posted a pick here (for the first time ever), and ended up fighting back my second read on the race in order to stick with my post. I just couldn't bring myself to break my word. Most of the $300 I ended up wagering was on a cold Hot Dixie Chick - Decelerator exacta. I then boxed up Decelerator on top of Beautician & Cowgirl Mally as I originally posted with a small win bet on Decelerator. By the time they hit the top of the stretch, I vowed never to post a pick in advance again... Lesson learned.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

I take that back you could maybe get 1-2 or better on Rachel. Quality Road just came back from layoff after breaking track record at Gulfstream in FL Derby.

Quality Road just won the

Amsterdam S. (G2)

6 1/2 Furlongs | Open | 3 Year Olds Stakes | Purse: $150,000

...under a very confident ride by Johnny V. Headed for the Travers with RA.

Yup, to bet against RA you gotta be crazy.

But with QR in the Travers and RA its going to be yummy. They will be betting down QR who is also a great horse which will make better odds on RA. They already said it RA is probably running the Travers as she is already at Spa exercising. QR won't be leaving the Spa either and will run in Travers.

Yeah, QR is definitely primed for the Travers after breaking the 6.5F track record today in the Amsterdam. RA, however, is not a lock to run in the Travers:

"If her next start is at Saratoga - where Rachel Alexandra returned Monday morning - Jackson has a multitude of Grade 1 options, beginning with the $1 million Travers for 3-year-olds on Aug. 29, the $300,000 Personal Ensign against older females the next day, or the $500,000 Woodward Stakes against older males on Sept. 5. While she would naturally be eligible for the Alabama against 3-year-old fillies on Aug. 22, that race would do virtually nothing for Rachel Alexandra in her quest to become Horse of the Year.

While the Travers would mean a potential matchup of three Triple Crown race winners - something that hasn't happened in the Travers since 1982 - a start in the weight-for-age Woodward would give Rachel Alexandra the opportunity to become the first filly to win that prestigious race.

"I'd look at that opportunity if she tells me she's ready for that," Jackson said Sunday."

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

Yup well it's either the Woodward Stakes or the Travers for sure though. Zenyatta running Sunday btw for everyone.

http://www.drf.com/news/article/106059.html

Moss hoping for match with Rachel

Though he doesn't know how or where it will happen, Jerry Moss is holding out hope that the race everyone wants to see, Rachel Alexandra vs. Zenyatta, will somehow come off. Moss believes it should take place at the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita's Oak Tree meeting in November, but Jess Jackson, the majority owner of Rachel Alexandra, has emphatically and repeatedly stated the Breeders' Cup is out because of Santa Anita's synthetic surface.

"The Breeders' Cup was created for this kind of circumstance," Moss said Monday on a national teleconference. "I'm not sure where else to have this meeting. The national press usually centers around the Triple Crown and the Breeders' Cup. I'm conditioned to respect the Breeders' Cup."

The Breeders' Cup is being run at Santa Anita for the second straight year.

"I didn't pick the place where the Breeders' Cup is run," Moss said. "We've run in the Breeders' Cup in all types of weather all over the place. If the Breeders' Cup was run in New York or Churchill Downs, we'd be all over the country."

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

Wow this is going to be good 3 triple crown winners in one race! Will be getting a good price on RA and I will pray she runs in this race. Interesting how they don't even know the finishing time and wow 119 Beyer if she did run that time.

Travers next up for Quality Road
By Mike Welsch

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - On Monday morning, the Saratoga barn area was abuzz over Rachel Alexandra and her jaw-dropping performance the previous afternoon in the Grade 1 Haskell. On Tuesday morning, Quality Road became the focal point of similar praise following his record-setting performance Monday afternoon in the Grade 2 Amsterdam.

Both 3-year-olds may now be headed for what would be the most anticipated showdown of the year if they were to meet here Aug. 29 in the Grade 1 Shadwell Travers.

While Rachel Alexandra's connections remain noncommittal regarding the Travers, trainer Todd Pletcher confirmed that if all goes well, Quality Road is definitely headed to the midsummer Derby.

"Mr. Evans [owner-breeder Edward P. Evans] always felt that the race he wanted Quality Road to be ready for was the Travers, and everything we've done preparing him for his return has been with that goal in mind," Pletcher said Tuesday. "At this point, he seems to have come out of his race very well. He's bright, alert, and sound, and the race doesn't appear to have been very taxing on him. While stretching out from six and one-half furlongs to a mile and one-quarter in the Travers off just one prep is not an easy task, I think he's the type of horse who can handle it because he's so tactical and his mindset is so good."

Although the magnitude of Quality Road's performance returning from a four-month layoff to win the Amsterdam despite a wide trip is indisputable, his track-record time of 1:13.45 has been questioned by Andrew Beyer and Associates. Beyer said methodology used by Randy Moss, who times races electronically from video, sets the final time of the Amsterdam at 1:14.70, with only a .05 margin of error.

As a result, Beyer has awarded Quality Road a 103 Beyer Speed Figure for the Amsterdam based on a final time of 1:14.70 - well below the colt's career bests of 113 and 111 earlier this year for victories in the Fountain of Youth and Florida Derby. Beyer said Quality Road would have earned a 119 Beyer using the track's official time of 1:13.45.

Pletcher said the speed figure service that he uses timed the race off video and got a final time just under 1:14.

"Either way you slice it, in my mind he still broke the track record," Pletcher said.

The old record of 1:14 2/5 was set by Topsider on Aug. 1, 1979.

NYRA officials said that after hand-timing the race and hand-timing the replay, they are standing by the official time as being correct.

Mine That Bird, Summer Bird arrive at Spa

Two of Quality Road's prospective rivals in the Travers, Mine That Bird and Summer Bird, have settled into their new quarters at the stakes barn following long van rides from West Virginia and New Jersey.

Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird was the first of the Triple Crown winners to arrive, checking in shortly after 3 p.m. Monday following a seven-hour trip from Mountaineer Park with trainer Chip Woolley at the wheel. Woolley wasted little time getting Mine That Bird acclimated to his new surroundings, sending the little gelding out to the track to gallop once around shortly after 7:15 a.m. Tuesday.

"He looked good out there this morning," Wooley said. "I thought he started off a hair flat, but he got into the bridle the last half-mile and came back to the barn bright eyed."

Woolley said Mine That Bird will gallop two miles on a daily basis beginning Wednesday, with no definite work scheduled mapped out as yet leading into the Travers.

Mine That Bird is coming off a somewhat disappointing third-place finish in Saturday's West Virginia Derby.

"I was pleased with my horse's effort, he laid it on the line again, but I wasn't pleased with the race," Woolley said. "He needs to run his specific style of race, like he did in the Derby and Preakness, and we need to get him settled early and get him back to that style for the Travers."

Summer Bird and trainer Tim Ice rolled into the stakes barn at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, following a five-hour trip from Monmouth Park. Like Woolley, Ice is visiting Saratoga for the first time this summer.

Summer Bird finished second, six lengths behind Rachel Alexandra, in the Haskell after forcing the pace throughout. Despite being soundly beaten, the Belmont Stakes winner earned a career-best 106 Beyer.

"I thought Kent [Desormeaux] put up a great ride in the Haskell," Ice said. "We felt we needed to be close up, because the track was playing to speed and he just took him up there easy. In fact, my horse showed a new dimension by being able to lay that close. He had also showed more speed in the Belmont as well, but Kent did a good job taking him back that day. Now I am very excited about running him a mile and one-quarter in the Travers."

Ice said Summer Bird will follow his regular routine, which is to walk for four days after a race and will not visit the track for the first time here until Friday.

I know my Win and Place bet didn't drop the odds ...ehh TVG both pickers have him picked and current odds 5/2. Not a fan on this horse at 5/2 but still like him was hoping to get about 2-3X current price. Good luck.

I've been following your full race card selections at Del Mar, and your top 3 pick selections frequently generate some nice value plays in exactas. How do you usually play your selections (specialize in multi-race bets? exotics? wps? etc)? Are you an "every race" guy or do you key your best selections?

And, oh yeah, awesome score! ...
