Speed... Speed is always good, but if by chance the closers win the first two races, start lookin for closers. That track is always 1 way or the other. Its never a fair track. Fair meaning, the closers, middle speed stalking types & speed types hardly ever all win on the same card. More than likely the track will b ultra fast though. Good luck stilg

I've been learning harness racing since there are two tracks pretty close to me that I cover for one of my clients. I went to Batavia Downs and they gave me a tour of the paddocks and jockey area, it was pretty cool.

The Buffalo Raceway is having a handicapping contest this March, so I am trying to brush up on my harness handicapping skills.

In the 8th race at GG the #4 horse is 4/5 right now coming back from a 9 month layoff and never racing over the course ~.~ lets see this.

Hopefully I can beat it and plenty people took it for a single.

Damn, he dropped a bit b4 the turn thought he was done but Baze got him up to win by a half.

Nice. I think most people overlook how important the Driver is in Harness Racing. You can have the best Horse in the race but if the bonehead Driver cant get him in position its hard to overcome. I will bet on Tim Tetrick and George Nap (chester track) with the 2nd and 3rd best horse just because they will give you a chance every time. Good Luck.

PM Derby coming up here, 20k purse. L G Jet is 3-3 at the meet and is the heavy favorite to make it 4-4, I hope this 3 year old comes to EMD this summer, I want to see how he can performe, this son of Harbor the Gold raced once at EMD as a 2 year old picked up a bit of a knack in a 25kMC, and took the rest of the summer off.

Impressive win by L G Jet, the 2 raced up for the lead next to LG Jet (3) and than went wide around the first turn on this 5f track. While going wide around the first turn the 4 horse moved up and took the inside lane, this Forced LG Jet to be running 5-6 wide down the back stretch. The 2 tired before the turn and the 4 gave way on the stretch Leaving 3 to win, and 5 to get up for second.

Race 9# The second division of the Southwest G3

Horse #10 intrigues me, a January foal, he hasn't raced since October at PID where he flashed an 83 beyer closing into a pretty good pace, could set up nicely here, as there is some serious speed horses.

hello, thread. i just went to my local otb saturday night and had a blast. i became interested in the sport after watching hbo's new drama, Luck.

since then i've been reading this thread and browsed other resources on the web. also started reading "horse race betting for dummies" to learn the basics. after that i'll probably purchase handicapping and exotics books.

few questions in the meantime:

how do offshore sites pay out the pk3+ pools if none of their bets are actually in the pool?

say a pk 6 for $100k and no one in the pool hits. but someone hits an offshore pk6. does the book simply owe him 100k and the real poo stays alive?

what if 1 person in the pool hits and 1 offshore. does the offshore pay off 50k since there was a winner in the pool?

do otb's offer rebates? how about twinspires? i looked at their loyalty program and it was like $1 in wager credits for every $500 wagered. seemed terrible.

what's the typical vig% offshore?

It depends on the offshore book your using, but with that being said dont play the pick6 offshore, unless ur bankroll is constricted to playing it for .25c. Cos u can play the pick6 offshore for smaller increments, where as when u play in the pari mutual pool its a $2 min bet. Secondly, offshore books do offer a better rebate program, but at the end of the day, i love being able to have access to my money in realtime. I can click 1 button on my Twinspires accnt & Tvg account & have the money in my checking accnt within minutes. I hate waiting for checks from 5dimes, its takes too long. I do keep an accnt @ 5dimes for a couple reasons. I like to play place parlays at smaller tracks, that way im not in the pool & can skim a few extra dollars when i get to a point where i have a parlayed amount of $600 to place on a horse @ beulah park. It can b the difference in a few hundo at that point. However, 90% of my bets are made through twinspires, tvg & my local track.
Btw, welcome to the thread, its a beautiful game.

Thx Clearly I'm looking for things to do other than my take home mid-term haha . But Its a bull ring track, and I have some experience of that from playing Hastings/Portland Meadows up here, so lets see how it goes. Setting some pretty strict limits on my betting so it can't hit me too hard.

CT has been my only profitable track in the last few weeks. Maybe I'll get involved tonight. Let's post our plays, or at least our thoughts, and see if we can't have some fun on a Tuesday night...
