how cliche - Bold Chieftain's race yesterday was pretty great, but heartbreaking. i really thought he was ahead with like 10 yards left and thought he was there at the wire. he really runs bad at photo's. last year plus he's lost them all. last 9 starts over 2011-2012: 1 win, 7 2nds. and 3 or 4 of the 2nds were photos. pretty sick.

bill morey's interview after the race was nice.

i'll miss him. :-(

also i posted his 2010 SF mile win a few posts back.

kevin21 and GizYaChips - when will the race featuring Frankel v. Black Caviar be held?

It won't

They are seemingly gonna be entered in different races.

Royal Ascot runs from 19th-23rd June. I hope it all changes and they do get to go H2H but right now it looks very unlikely.

See this is one of the (many) things wrong with horse racing. Owners/trainers don't have much incentive to have "monster showdowns" unless it's the Breeders Cup (can't speak to non-US racing). The NTRA should get a pool going to have the two best horses (maybe the public votes) race in either a match race or on a major racing day where both owners get $X amount of dollars win, lose, or draw (winner gets the purse ldo). This should've been done with Rachel and Zenyatta.

finally got around to watching Flat Out in the Ft. Lauderdale and Jackson Bend in the Hal's Hope from this past saturday.

i'm totally lost and confused on Flat Out. his last 3 have been total bleh. i understand this was on turf and maybe he didnt take to it, but he was right there in striking distance on the 2nd turn heading into the stretch and just stopped. simple as that.

Jackson Bend was full of life, on the other hand. Was behind of wall of horses at the head of the stretch and had to wait for room, finally got it and closed like a champ. great effort to start the year.

whats up room havent ben around in a while happy 2012 hope all your bank rolls are up. I just came in to say one thing real quick. I read a article yesterday. It's headline was about a 4 peat for a mare or filly a Horse of the year. It was funny because when i seen it i thought to myself it was about a certain horse. When i opened it i seen the article was about have de gras and then some on royal delta. Respect to both those horses but by far THE BEST THIS YEAR IS AWESOME FEATHER. She looked great at the end of the year and while the other 2 were battling at the end of year have de gras showed she is not 1 1/4 royal delta ha ha ha i hope i get that value and remember have de gras and royl delta will stay clear of the best female this year Awesome feather

i'm not a big fan of hedging a P3.

just my opinion, but if you liked a 3rd horse in the last race, it would have cost you $9. dont underbet the ticket. a slight overbet >>>>>>> underbet.

and yeah standard to run 2/3 there. ugggh.

i read Hansen is supposed to kick off his 3 yr old season next sunday, jan 29 at Gulfstream. Holy Bull Grade 3 at 1 mile.

Interested to see where he is at, as I'm guessing they will make a run at the Kentucky Derby.

From a quick look, this looks like a cakewalk, but prob good to start off with a soft race and see where he's at and work from there.

The G3 LeComte is tomorrow at a Mile +70 yards at the Fair Grounds, I'm really looking forward to seeing Ted's Folly run again, can he build off his current 6 win streak? Granted that was racing at Remington in Oklahoma, but he did win the 300k Springboard Mile, The second and third place runners out of that race have both come back to run smartly. RACE REPLAY

While this may be a step up in class, it isn't a leap of faith by any stretch of the imagination.

He closes from deep, and while his last Quarter in the Springboard wasn't fast, he made a great move going around the 2nd turn in the springboard which set him up nicely.

Everyone's jumping on Shared Property and Exfactor, I think Ted's folly may have a bit of an overlay.

Amazombie scratched from the Palos Verdes. that sucks.

fade Euroears, he's way overbet imo.

M One Rifle seems like he's getting a good price

pretty interesting race today at Santa Anita. Race 4 is the San Pedro Stakes, ungraded at 6 1/2 furlongs for 3 yr olds. It is a pretty competitive field of 6. I'm interested to see how Drill runs.

He won the Del Mar Futurity and followed that up with a 2nd in the Norfolk at Santa Anita in October. Both of those Grade 1's. Then he went 10th in the BC Juvenile, 7th in the Delta Downs Jackpot, and 9th in the CashCall Futurity to close out the year. The DMF was at 7 furlongs, and the rest were at 1 1/16 miles.

I think this is a key race for him. Lots of horses that start out looking very promising never progress as they get older and some find their stride in 1 turn races, but are outclassed at 2. I think we will learn something about him today.

Gulfstream - Race 9

#6 Morrow Cove (5/1 ml)

I've been waiting for filly to be entered in a race, and here she is. This first-time starter for Todd Pletcher has turned in a remarkable string of drills during the last several weeks. It started back on Nov 29 when she worked heads-up with her then-unraced barnmate The Last Meow, followed by a heads-up gate drill with that one on Dec 18, then another heads-up drill on Dec. 31. So that's three heads-up drills with The Last Meow, who then came out of those works to destroy a maiden field by 7 1/2 lengths (gate-to-wire in fast time) a week later. That's huge just by itself, but it doesn't end there. In her next workout on Jan. 9, Morrow Cove worked heads-up with Awesome Maria, an older multiple graded-stakes winner who was last seen winning the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps last summer. And then, in her next (and most recent) drill, she worked heads-up with Dan and Sheila, an impressive debut winner for us last month who shipped to Fair Grounds coming out of that drill and ran 4th (beaten 2 lengths) in yesterday's Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes. And for all this, she's being listed @ 5/1 here??? She may not win this thing, but i'll be shocked if she doesn't run well. Haven't seen a firster looking this strong in a very long time.

wow, Drill not very good. Didn't like Martin Garcia taking him 4 wide around the turn, though. seems like that was a bad decision.

On Black Caviar v Frankel, it's all on Frankel's owners it seems. Moody (BC's trainer) has her preparation planned out and isn't changing them. If the match is to go ahead, Frankel has to replan his prep.

In other news, the lead up races to the Golden Slipper (richest race in the world for 2 yr olds) are beginning at the end of this month with the Blue Diamond races etc.

Stick to trainer Gai Waterhouse. She will win i have no doubt. On which horse, it's a 50/50, but she has some top notch 2 yr olds coming through.

Also, Black Caviar could come up against Sepoy in Dubai after Moody nominated her for 2 races there including one against Sepoy.

And So You Think nominated for the World Cup.

Exciting times for us down under.

Rachel Alexandra gave birth to a colt today, by Curlin. A "Super Foal" as they are called.

Best of luck to the connections and I hope the colt makes it to the track some day.

Curlin of course was Stonestreets amazing horse that won 11 of 16 starts for 10.5 million dollars including a Breeders Cup Classic, and a Dubai World Cup.

Rachel Alexandra was 2009 horse of hte year, A year where she smashed the Kentucky Oaks by 20 lengths, and won the Woodward against older males as a 3 year old filly. She won 13 of 19 starts for 3.5 million.
