Thought you guys could use a good laugh/degen story. I am a harness player who dabbles in the runners, so I don't post here much.

Playing two tracks today. Monticello and Pinnacle. BR for the day is $200.

I decide to bet $100 of the bankroll on the first race at M. My speed rating/trip handicapping system gives me the 1 horse by 12 points - automatic play. I hammer the exacta, trifecta, double and pick 3. The 1 goes off second choice at 8-5 and gets nosed out when Billy Parker steals the race on the 6 horse. Hosed.

So I hit the second leg of my pick-3 and see I have a chance at a 2-of-3 payout twice if the 6 horse can win the third race. The 6 is going off 10-1 in the third. I hate the even money favorite in the 4 hole. He battled valiantly last week to win first up and is prime to cycle down. So I play the super 1,4,6,7 w 1,4,6,7 w 1,2,4,6,7 w 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. For a dime it costs $19.20.

The 4 gets stuck first up, struggles and tanks at even money. The 6 wires the field and I hit a 6-7-1-2 super. Odds 10-1, 7/2, 15-1, 15-1. There is $5,788 in the super pool.

As I await the payout it flashes up as $5,788! Did I just get the entire pool for a dime? Heart attack is coming on strong. Check my account balance. I may be able to pay the roofers after all. Except for it seems there were exactly $2.00 worth of winning tickets. Still $289.40 and two 2-of-3 consolations is pretty good.

Now let's see if I can piss it away before the afternoon is over...

It is tough enough to hit at the big M, but I love the payouts. I do like that they are doing something a little different. Trying a few races on the grass is better than trying races at different distances. That has never worked out.

Finished up $137 today. It would have been more if they hadn't DQd my horse at Pinnacle. The bastards. I took a few shots once up, because I really do have to pay the roofers!

P.S. I enjoy this thread and would post a harness racing pick once in awhile if it weren't for a) y'all would laugh me off the page and b) if you bet my pick you would blow up the pools at these little tracks I play.

I just spent $12 to hit a pick 3 that paid $5. This can mean only one thing. I am playing the little m again today. Ride her 'til she bucks ya.

Here are a couple horses I like in the card that might be decent prices.

Race 5: I like the 5 NINE INNINGS. This gelding was stuck in the 8 post in his local debut. I hope for a little pace from the inside to set the race up well. 7/2 morning line I like but Jordan Stratton is in the bike and this always draws attention and $.

Race 8: I like the 2 MERLES BOY. 4/1 on the morning line. This horse looks like the only leaver and I like that angle. He pressed a hot pace to 3/4 mile last out and petered out against much better. Love Gregory Merton in the bike. He knows how to wire a race.

Race 12: I like the 2 TROPICAL BAY in a non-winners trot. Shippers up from Pompano Park have been doing well this year at m. Coming off two straight wins for the Aldrich combo this will be a short price. I will be playing the 5 horse underneath in a trifecta. Just even tries, nothing special, no breaks, hitting the board.

Results later.

Just wondering....if you have a Pick 4 going and you hit the first 2 races and then the last 2 are postponed because of weather, what happens?

disregard this post...races started back up again and won the first 3 legs of the pick 4 on a $2 ticket and ended up losing the 4th and final race....FML.

Two seconds and a wtf. Not hurt much today but that takes care of my interest for a bit. Will pop back into this thread from time to time.

2yo half-brother to Discreet Cat entered tomorrow:

Race 4 @ Belmont, #2B Discreetly Mine

Part of an entry here for the same guy that debuted Discreet Cat, trainer Stanley Hough. I haven't handicapped the race yet, but obviously this one will command some attention.

These 2yo races are wide open.. it is also the first leg of the p6.

Seriously hoping BEL carries thurs and fri so that saturdays card would have a double carryover AND the $350k guaranteed late p4.

Looking at thursday and friday cards.. it is not out of the realm of possiblity!

True to a certain extent, but 2yo races are my forte. Always have been. I'll be posting a selection on the Bashford Manor Stakes later today, btw.

Regarding Discreetly Mine, he ran very well. Second by a neck.

Well, the horse i was going to post here has unfortunately been scratched. Here's the write-up anyway, maybe we can tab him for later.

Churchill - Race 10

#4 Mission Impazible (7/2 ml)

I gave this horse out in his debut, where he showed uncommon late kick for a 2yo in powering home through the final sixteenth to get up at the wire over the return winner Grand Times (who was over 4 lengths clear of the rest of the field). Was well-supported in the Kentucky Juvenile Stakes next time out, but was really up against it from a pace standpoint when facing the lightning-quick Ward 2yo Jealous Again (who returned at Royal Ascot, of all places, to win a Group One stakes by open lengths). In that race, Mission Impazible broke slowly and was way behind early before angling to the rail for the stretch run and then swerving through the field late as he gained considerable momentum in the late stages, reminiscent of his debut win. Seems to be taking the same route here as Ready's Image, Pletcher's star 2yo from a couple of years ago who won his debut at Keeneland before running third in the Kentucky Juvenile. Ready's Image came out of that race (as Mission Impazible is here) to win a Belmont stakes by 7 lengths, then went on to win the Sanford Stakes at Saratoga. Regarding Mission Impazible, the extra furlong here should do wonders for his chances, and although there's some speed in here, there's nobody nearly as quick as Jealous Again. Should be a bit closer early with a clean break, and a repeat of either of his first two races is probably good enough to win this. Improvement along the same lines as Ready's Image (a definite possibility) could make him a romping winner here. Will definitely take some action here because of Pletcher and the fact that he's the only horse in the race with prior stakes experience, but that should be somewhat counter-acted by the fact that his last-race Beyer is 13 points lower than that of the 3/1 morning line favorite Backtalk.
