What an awful day. Show up w/ my gf who has enjoyed going the couple times I've gone with her. Pay for club house entry but when we get there box seats are sold out. We get out to the grandstand just in time to see the stretch run of the 3rd and hear a roar of the crowd, then see horse and jockey lying immobile. Needless to say gf was horrified the rest of the time (and will not be going back).

Was alive in the pick 4 to the #2 in the 10th, dreams crushed obv. Junipers pass was 2nd choice but I didn't want to shell out another $14, paid 4k ez game etc.

Life tilt still intact!

Sorry about your PK4 loss Vet,had $50 on Juniper Pass, liked the horse from last race in the slop, and Brice Blanc normaly dont say a word, and he gushed about this horse last month during an HRTV interview, and expressed how pist he was that he was tooken off him. Lost $4 total on the day.

I dont have an attraction like what drew me to this game being Rags To Riches in 07,or a Big Z,who just absolutely stole my heart these past 3 years, which brings me to the point about your girlfriend. It this......That is what makes this game so damn special! At any point and time it could be a horses life gone,or a jockeys life gone, and i have such a deep envy and admiration for both animal and jockey to do what they do. It IS imo, what makes this sport so beautiful, because it imitates life so perfectly....It can be so exhilarating, and so unfair in the same breath. Today you walked for cancer, and a stand up thing that is! Today a kid battled and lost their life to that hideous disease, but tomorrow maybe some of the money raised at SA today saves a kids life.....Horses are going to fall, jockeys are going to get crippled,BUT horse know one thing, and thats to RUNNN,and ask any jockey if they would change their profession and you will get the same answer over and over.......

Honch: Yeah I agree, the unpredictability is part of the draw. Injuries to horses and jockeys are unfortunate and saddening, but you take them as part of the sport. Gf doesn't see things the same way though, just unfortunate that it has turned her off from ever going back with me b/c we had fun previously. She did further research (heh) and reports that there were 13 fatal spills since they started racing in December, up from 2 last season. Though it could be variance, I assume this is due to changing from the poly, which is unfortunate. I don't know if the horses were used to training on poly or dirt is just more prone to bad footing.

Anyway, depressing stuff aside, eagerly anticipating Sunday which should be must-pay day for Gulfstream $0.10 P6 with ~1.5mil carryover. Also, Kev that Luck trailer does look good, can't wait for it to premiere. Any word on when it's to be released? Looks like the pilot was shot last spring.

I heard that the racetrack filming was done during this past SA meet.

From what else I've heard, it looks like this fall or next spring to start.

The rainbow six mandatory payout will be Saturday April 23rd.

It's funny bouncing from different racing forums reading about how hard the Derby is this year, written by people who probably haven't picked a Derby winner in 10 years.

LOL. I'm not saying I crush the Derby or anything, I've had 2 winners in 10 years (Super Saver and Monarchos).. It's just funny reading all the, "Omg, this is wide open and impossible, I have no idea even where to start", when it already is the hardest race of the year to handicap and 90% of the time we're on the losers. As if Uncle Mo, The Factor, To Honor And Serve, and Mucho Macho Man had all won their preps, it would be that much easier or something.

He's all Heart will race in his first race of this year, on sunday at Emerald Downs

It is a 6 furlong allowance race, that showcases many horses that will fight in the Allowance/Stake division this year. Noosa Beach traveled north to Hastings where he will race tomorrow in a 50k stake, I wonder if the owners will send him north more often, and alternate stakes races between the two tracks if the time permits.

1 He's All Heart (WA) 5/G BL G V Mitchell 120 L Wolf

Heart's been working well over the past couple months breezing 5f in 58.6 and 58.0 in his last two works. Heart has had horrible luck that seems to carry over from past season and has drawn the rail again. That said he is fortunate enough to have an experienced jockey, who has frequently been the top jockey at Emerald Downs. In 19 starts Heart is 5-4-4.

2 Our Minesweeper (ID) 4/G BL J A Crispin 122 F Lucarelli

No prior race experience at Emerald Downs, but he has won 25% of his starts (16: 4-3-0) racing against stakes company. He has raced in California, but his last race was at Turf Paradise, and now he is at Emerald Downs, if you look at this horses history, he hasnt regained his stellar form he showed as a two year old. Since that two year old campaign he is in 10 races: 1-2-0. Will only two works at the track, and a lack of good form of late I think its safe to pass on this horse.

3 Wasserman (WA) 9/G BL J Matias 120 H Belvoir
The 9 year old gelding is the leading all time money leader at Emerald Downs amassing earnings of 538,789$ in 57 starts (10-12-7). Owned and trained by the prominent local trainer Howard Belvoir, one has to wonder why the horse is still racing. In 2010 he was 0-2-0 from 10 starts, and Belvoir has flirted with putting him in claiming company on a couple occasions. His works all the way from March are not sterling, but satisfactory. His last four works have been 5f, 6f, 5f, 5f. So he should be ready to handle the 6 furlong distance. Wassermans best races were ones where he closed well from off the pace. At this age, and distance that racing style that brought him so much success in 2007, 2008 will not work.
*NOTE* He is also entered into an Allowance Optional Claimer on Saturdays card, so I’m not sure which race he will race in.

4 Assessment (KY) 7/G BL J M Gutierrez 120 H Belvoir
One of two G3 Longacres Mile winners ( Wasserman being the other) Assessment should be the M/L favorite in this race. The 7 year old was the only horse to beat Noosa Beach last year, in 7 starts he went 2-0-1, for his career he is 9-4-4 from 32 starts and earning 437,000$. Not surprisingly Belvoir has had him on the same training regimen as Wasserman running 5f,6f,5f,5f. His final race of 2010, he won an allowance race running a mile in 1:34.60.

5 Winning Machine (KY) 5/G BL L Mawing 120 F Lucarelli
Winning Machine never really got his 2010 campaign going, with an injury sidelining him for a month and half during the peak months of July and August, he was able to get back and race in the Longacres mile, but wasn’t back to his best form. After the winter layoff, and a good workout regimen this spring, lets see if he can recapture the speed in 2009 that led to him winning the G3 BC Derby. In 19 career starts he is 5-4-3 with earnings of 311,000$.

6 Margo's Gift (WA) 6/G BL P M Terrero 120 D Harwood
This six year old out of the highly successful Harwood barn, was very strong as a 2 and 3 year old (12: 6-2-3, 303,000$ , since then however he has gone 3-1-1 over 14 races for 50,000$. One of his wins last year was in an always challenging 3 horse race in the slop…..

7 Boundtogetbusy (WA) 4/G BL R V Skelly 120 C Essex
This lightly raced 4 year old hasn’t raced since April of 2010, in four career races he is 2-2-0. While we don’t have much to go off on this horse, this horse has posted 5 bullet works out of 7 works, and finished up with 5f in 58.40 on 4/17/2011. In the races we do have this horse has shown a propensity to get out of the gate well, and strive for the lead. Something that could favor it in this field of horses .

Noosa Beach wins the George Royal Stakes at Hastings today, REPLAY AT BLOODHORSE This horse is amazing and I wouldn't be surprised if it traveled to Hastings again this year possibly in the BC Premier G3 which would be just after the end of hte Emerald Downs season. This drives his career earnings up to 399,000$ in 17 starts (11-3-2) Too good for this level in the nw, I wish they would give this horse an opportunity to take a shot down south in Cali. They wouldn't be sacrificing much as all the stakes races from here on out available up here are 50k$ purses (30k to winner). Excluding the Longacres Mile of course.

I will take solace in the fact that i didn't tilt after I got beat out in the last leg of a pk4 that paid $4k+... I just went out and wacked some golf balls. really, really hard.

I've been doing well at Keeneland so far, so I am going to throw some of my recent winnings on a pk4 at HOL for which I have done 5 minutes of handicapping...

Samba school was such a bad fave in the 7th race at Hollywood, hes very cheap, is better on the turf, no way he should of went off 4/5. I was alive in the pick 4, i hit a a nice price with Squad, 9/1, but unfortunately i used bar ommana and SC song girl. The next horse i was going to use was the winner, I liked rosario picking up the mount, kinda hoping I dont hit the last race, pick 4 prices are wayyyyy high

That first leg single of Game On might be devastating for quite a few people IMO.

Has regressed in each race since that big effort before the claim on Feb 9th. And spotting 5 pounds to #10 Marias Pass who has a boatload of speed. Game On is stretching out too.

#11 Rumbletown has a promising bug boy in Ryan Curatolo. He's got 14 pounds total on Game On and that turf race looks mighty impressive on sheet figs (4 wide both turns, . Even more impressive when you consider Rumbletown's sire Came Home is more known for producing dirt sprinters than turf routers.

I was about a combined 2 lengths away from a $5k+ day yesterday, instead I settled for a small profit. This game is really really tough.

Going to take a shot at the rainbow six today, as well as a some plays at Keeneland and Hollywood.

Is anyone else going for the rainbow six besides vetiver?

I wasn't planning to bet the races until full-blown degeneracy on the best day of the year - Derby day - but I can't resist the pick 6 at GP. So I'm heading to EmD to put in a play. I'll post it later. Looks pretty tough today. I'll probably play a fairly cheap ($60-100) AAAA and AAA 1B type of play.

I'm trying to keep my tickets in the $80-$120 range.

A couple of quick notes from my early morning handicapping.

I'm leaving out GAME ON in the first leg on my tickets. Risky, but I think there are better horses here: on my A ticket (right now) are the 6,11,14; I think CAPTAIN CRENCH and NORWICH CADET are solid plays. Captain Crench in good form and Norwich Cadet on the significant class drop. RUMBLETOWN is cutting back in distance after faltering late in last race, so I'm giving him a solid look.

The next leg is the toughest IMO. My A ticket (right now) has 3,4,8,13; a little chalky, but I didn't really know where to go here. WALT'S WHIZ has a great jockey, good speed and dropping in class. NOTONTHESAMEPAGE has the best class, and is 2nd off the layoff, could be the one to beat. MIPANDO was a tough choice, just think he has great speed, and I'm throwing his last race out. He might end up on my B list by race time. MUSTANG ISLAND is a connections play. Think he can rate well, but hate the post. I'm a Jersey Joe fan so have to include him.

Third leg have the 9,10 on the A list. Pretty standard plays here, these horses will be the top 2 on everyone's ticket, I think. I hate going chalky again, but I think I have some value in first leg and subsequent legs.

Fourth leg like the 8,9,11. MORE IS BETTER stepping up in class, but likes the track. Think he's definitely included, but might move to my B list. PERFORMING is such a solid horse, I think he's the one to beat here, great class, likes the track. ITHINKIHADTHATONE with Paco Lopez, had an awkward start and came late last race, I'm big on this horse, and I will be keying him in this race after I got knocked out of the pick6 after the first leg :-)

Fifth leg, I think I'm singling HARIOLUS. Yeah, I know, I have a crush on Paco... but, you got to take a stand in these multirace plays if you want to keep the cost down. I feel most comfortable with HARIOLUS here, but the 2,5,12,13 all seem to have shots, as well.

Last leg, the 5 is definitely going to be one of my A plays. RACHEL'S GIRL is most certainly my value play of the day. Think she's finally getting the right distance and will be chomping at the bit to get the lead late over some of the speed in this race. The rest of the field is so wide open. Probably will use some 6,9,12 on some tickets.

These are just my early thoughts. I will probably change my mind a little when I got to bet. I'm going to be posting my tickets later, so that you guys can laugh at me when I'm out after the first leg, when GAME ON wins by 10 lengths...gl all!
