FAIRGROUNDS RACE 7 DFKenner150k Ungraded Stakes 6f Dirt 3yo & up
-CASH REFUND 2:1
One of the two Stephen Margolis speedsters, freshened after his 5yo debut where he scored at 4:5 posting a Bris figure of 103. In that race he was headed in the stretch and gamely pulled out a neck victory. 6 for 11 lifetime, the speedster will be involved from start to finish.
-EARLY RETURN 2:1
The other half of the entry, this one is a bit cheaper and may even be a "need the lead" type. Also freshened after 2011 debut and gets Bridgmohan. Loves the FG oval with 3 wins and 2 places in 5 starts. This entry will probably be something like 7/5.
-THREE DAY RUSH 10:1
Yet another Margolis runner but, this one isn't a Bertram & Klein charge. Second race off layoff and picks up Corey Lanerie. The sprints that he has been competitive in he has challenged for the lead. I believe it is in his best interest to sit off and rate a bit today. They thought something of his stamina during his 3yo campaign as Pletcher ran him in last year's Gotham.. so bottom isn't a question. I like him to stalk from the rail and get a minor award.
-NEW BAY 20:1
This one is a bit cheap.. a 40k claim by AC Avila. Avila takes him from Mike Mitchell and puts him directly into GI company! He gets beaten in two GI sprints and changes hands to Mike Chambers, who puts him on the shelf from Oct to Feb where he resurfaces in the Phoenix Handicap and goes off at 7:2 and is beaten. Now, under the tutelage of Michelle Lovell and second off layoff. Maybe in softer optional claiming spots? Pass.
-MAMBO GALLIANO 6:1
Love the consistency. Hate the frequent layoffs. This Black Mambo 5yo is always near the pace and could get caught up in the wash today. He does love the oval, with 2 wins and 4 places in 6 starts. I may regret using this guy today but, I just don't see any reason to think he can turn the tables on Early Return who defeated him last time out. The pace surely does not assist.
-RILEY TUCKER 7:2
Super fresh Asmussen 6yo. Lifetime earnings over half a million. Hasn't raced since the BC Sprint where he was a well beaten 9th but, was in contention mid-race and was mildly supported at 8:1. Ran a good second in the Vosburgh before that. Is form a question? Well, if the workout on March 19th is any indication, the answer is NO. He was best of 86 that morning, going 4f in :46 4/5 breezing. This one is my selection to run them down.
-BACKTALK 3:1
Fresh Thomas Amoss, Smarty Jones colt. Was beaten a neck by Cash Refund in his 4yo debut. This one has tons of upside, possibly more than any of the others but, hasn't visited the winner's circle since last Febuary and that was an off track at 1:2 odds. Cannot be ignored but, I wouldn't accept short odds in the win pool as the M/L suggests.
-SNAPSHOT 9:2
Bill Mott horse making 5yo debut here. A very solid sprinter, should be right in the mix. I cannot see him pulling away from these and getting any seperation but, I see him right there at the wire. Curious where Desormeaux will have him placed at the half mile, I hope it's about a length off of Cash Refund and maybe Kenny gets him up at a price.
