The extent of my expert handicapping was this for Friday thru Sunday i played ALL Maker horses to WP in NY and i played all Callaghan horses at Del Mar WP and only caught the replays after checking my account balance. Saw the pattern develop and i mean you can beat the chit out of yourself in this game and say it was not in the PP's meaning the winner and your right PP's are indicative of past performances not future results learned to accept this relying more on physicality especially Maidens but back on point you could see the pattern and these barns are running crazy hot right now so i mean it is throw away $$ because it was not in the PP's being a bullheaded hating money fool or accept the pattern and profit off it i finally learned to do the latter.
I wanted to post a small trip report and advise everyone itt to check out Saratoga if you get the chance. Great place to drink, eat great food, wager at the track, etc. idk how someone could not find some positive aspect of Saratoga they could enjoy. Even just the scenery + great summer weather along with a very positive vibe from everyone makes Saratoga a summer treasure spot to me.
Ok so on to the races- I handicapped using my brisnet pps and looked very hard into each race. Hated the card. The stakes races were annoyingly tough and didn’t like EQ at 1/5 or 2/5 in a race with 5 horses where I could see a pace horse taking them all the way (look at the keeneland race where he really had to dig deep at end to beat a chad brown horse that got a slow lead in a race with almost no pace). Ok so first, have 2 friends with me and a buddys gf. First- race 3 I tell people we got a very good bet in the #1. You get a 1 and 1A horse with the top 2 rated horses in the race and you get a fast early horse along with a closer w/ irad (IMO best jockey in NY now). Ok so we get maybe 3/5 and I tell friends to hammer bet. They don’t listen to me and just bet to win while I go W/P. The #1 ends up losing his jockey out of the gate so we have the 1A only. Well the 1 leads the field all around and wins the race without a jockey lol. Obv he doesn’t win once the jock is off but this sets up a perfect scenario for the 1A to close and he just gets up at the end for a nice early small chalky win.
Ok so later on, I’m play a S horse in a turf race (wanna say #5) that ends up closing into a slow pace and wins a 7-1. Another turf maiden- I bet a kittens joy with Jose Ortiz (Claude mcgahey trained) horse that to me is great value. He ends up closing another slow race and wins. I normally play chalk so this was very exciting even though I was betting fairly small for my normal sizing with races I think I handicap wel and a horse has huge edge.
End up going kinda meh late day. Fade EQ with the #3 who I expect to get lead with irad however horse runs around 3rd or 4th and tails off and somehow EQ wins. Player whitmore in the Vanderbilt. Expect the pace to be hot which it is and he makes a nice run at the end but just not able to get there. Didn’t expect lexitonian to win- sadly didn’t include in my p5s and p4. Make my biggest bet of day in turf with the chad brown horse from Chile that looked kinda meh in his first race where he started poorly and tracked all race at Belmont into a slow pace. Ok so horse goes out 4th and just chases until he fades which was a bummer. Saw somewhere he ran like 45-46 for last 4 furlongs in a group race in Chile so was hopeful he may have just needed a prep at Belmont and would fire for chad brown- was very wrong and initial hunch that we right ok Chile turf horses not being the reap deal. Still happy, would rather bet a longer shot than channel maker or channel cat at chalky prices and they both don’t finish well in the race. Made like $200-300 at the track in person with my win/place bets so great day. Sadly bet like $400 on my TVG account into p4s and a pick 5 ticket that just were crushed early in each sequence.
Final note- the food in Saratoga is amazing. Went to Morton’s steakhouse at the casino. Got a waygu filet that was excellent. Would recommend Saratoga to even just a foody looking to try new food. We wanted to check salt and char out but booked long ago. Also druthers is great for beer + bar type food (went Friday night). May try to stop drinking after trip also. Ended up drinking way too many beers on Friday night and got maybe 5 hours of sleep prior to the track day. Also drank a large amount of beer at the track. Got a pic with friends where I look bloated and chubby lmao. Couldn’t even post it to my social media accounts bc I found it embarrassing. All in all, Saratoga is a great summer spot to check out!
