'how do I beat the no vig line at the sharpest book (Pinnacle) or exchange (Betfair, matchbook) with the deepest max bet by as much as possible and get down the maximum volume in bets that I can on wagers like that while using some variant of kelly bankroll management'

Computer programming. Without a proven model you don't stand much of a chance in 2019.

What? If you're talking NFL spreads on Pinnacle maybe. If you have soft locals or are betting anything remotely niche even on sharp books that's not true at all.

I just started in sports betting and I haven't been doing too bad.
Maybe I'm just a sports betting fish on a heater.
Probably so, because I don't use any computer software or anything, just good old fashioned reasoning.

I think my poker background has definitely helped.
Use proper budget management first off. Don't bet more than you can afford to lose. But what's helped me the most so far is I bet on only one sport. The sport you think you know the best. For me it's been England premier league and England championship.

I think basketball for example would be pretty high variance.

Otherwise, just use simple math. Don't bet on matches with bad odds, like betting 100 on Man. City to win 10!

If you bet on 10 games with decent odds, all you have to do is win about 53% of those matches to see a profit.

The guy was asking for advice on what to study to be able to make some money on sports betting. That's what this forum is supposed to be all about. People sharing ideas. And this is all you have to offer.
That's what's sad.

Starting Feb. 8, not including today's wagers, the game's are tomorrow,
I've made 14 bets and won 10, making a profit of 729.85

You jealous?

Gonna go out on a limb and say Mr. Rodriguez is not jealous, but then again I might know him a little better than most who post here

It's a pity but 2p2 is generally not about the exchange of ideas anymore, the dumb recipe copypasta and the millionaires club of successful dickheads killing off new posters desire to post here stopped that a while back.

My original response to this thread stands, your entry to successful sports betting is either find some soft outs and line grind to beat closers or learn to handicap a niche sport you can get down on. I do a bit of both and have gone from a breakeven bettor betting $100 units about 5 years ago to well, not that now. The information is still out there for anyone who wants to study and grind. I've had a ton of people PM me over the past year or two and while i've given decent information in some cases most people do not want to learn and just trying to handicap and beat NFL/EPL on Pinny by themselves with no modelling experience or particular skills and get nowhere slowly.

Also, networking is way, way more important than someone new to sports betting might suspect, I make a ton more than a lot of people more talented than me at handicapping because of my ability to get down large numbers on soft outs which is again all because of networking, if you can find whales who are stuck 6-7 figures at soft outs to place bets for you for a share of the action, chances are you're going to do a lot better than the guy grinding out 1.3% edges on sharp books.

Appreciate the feedback.
Of course, 700 something isn't the world!
Just trying to stay within my budget and hopefully slowly build up to where I'll be able to make bigger wagers for bigger returns.
I have 50 on Sheffield Wed. And they are up 3 1 in the 80th minute as I'm typing this. It was a good value, even money, I'm to get 50 profit.
Now Torino needs to come through vs Bologna to make it a successful day.
In any case, poker wasn't working so I'm glad I'm here!

Yes, unfortunately, the forum has turned into an exclusive members club, a place where the successful come to brag and compliment each other.
There don't seem to be very many ideas being exchanged.
Maybe it's not so bad in the poker forums but the back slapping is definitely there.

In any case, I was just sharing what's been working for me so far.
I said right from the beginning, I'm starting out myself.
Ps. Of course I bet sports in the past but I was doing parlys.
Years ago. Parlays are for suckers.

I'm definitely looking to learn. I'll take you up on that offer.
Thanks.

It's not an "exchange of ideas" when one party is a braindead meelie who can only accept spoonfed ideas, and the other party has put hundreds or thousands of hours into becoming one of the most knowledgeable in the world at something. This sense of entitlement that you should have access to an expert's knowledge and that he would treat any pleb internet stranger as an equal is just baffling. B00t once said he'd tutor somebody for $100k. That's realistically probably fair value. You especially have been around long enough that you should know that bettors are competing for the same pie. Once an angle gets exploited by too many people, the books adapt and it disappears.

There are relationships between gamblers that provide value to both parties, but a newbie is going to need months or years to catch up to the experts in order to have something to provide. And the millionaires mostly already have those connections with other millionaires, and aren't looking for new ones.

So yes, there is a club of millionaires who would prefer that there aren't new members joining, taking a piece of the pie and contributing nothing. That doesn't make them dickheads.

I accept and respect your viewpoint.
Although I realize I'll need time to catch up to you guy's, maybe I won't,
I don't need it and don't expect any handouts. I'm doing just fine on my own so far.

It's true that we aren't making our money from the house, rather, similar to a poker tournament, our !money comes from the losing players.

I just thought though, maybe I'm naive, that someone who makes the effort to be in 2+2 isn't the general gambling population but rather the minority thinking players.

I just wonder what's the purpose, if any, of the thread.
Adios amigos.

I should say one last thing. I shouldn't bother but I I'll say my opinion anyway.

Now that I think about it, this should be a space for beginning and intermediate sports bettors. Giving each other ideas in the effort to improve. Just like in poker.

In the poker threads, there are plenty of advanced players who give free advice.

If you feel that , being a successful sports bettor, you don't want to give away your hard earned knowledge, I can understand that.
But it doesn't give you the right to try and shut down the rest of us.

You don't want to contribute? Just be quiet then.
With respect.

Who said I'm a recreational bettor? Sure, I have a primary job, which I like, but I'm taking this very serious.

You admit, you learned so much from this forum, and still, instead of giving something back yourself, you are trying to block other people from benefiting like you did.

Please leave then. Good riddance !
