Anyone who thinks he owes you $600 is a Grade A idiot that I would never help with anything.

Lets look at this problem another way. You ask someone to help you move a couch. He stubs his toe and drops the couch damaging it. Do you ask him to pay for the repair of the couch?

He's already lost $100 doing something that wasted his time as a favor. What is wrong with some people.

Thats an fair point and it seems to be the general view of most. I kinda thought my view might be different from the norm and maybe i should just eat the loss and not worry about it. I would not consider it if he was held up or he was walking down the street and an the wind blew it away. But he left it at tables to go to the restroom since his GF was also at the tables playing. When he came back, his gf hand him his chips and he assumed that she had pocketed the slip but she did not know what it was and never really kept an eye on it. The way it was lost seem careless in my point of view

So youre saying that he lost it and someone else picked it up and cashed it?

Correct......sportsbook confirmed its been cashed. He had checked and told me.
I have no doubt his word is good. I just deemed his action careless, and annoyed at the way he lost my $600. It was not caused by events beyond his control.

When he lost it, the ticket was only worth $100.

Did he lose it at the 24 Dunkin Donuts outside of Foxwoods?

Really sounds to me as if your friend punted your winnings and made up this losing the ticket story.

If it was me who lost the ticket I would pay in full, yes ive wasted my time purchasing and holding a ticket, but I should know this freeroll in advance. I'm not saying thats correct or anything, just from a moral standpoint. Thats where id fall. On the other side of the situation, id expect the other party to pay in full, but wouldnt demand the money.

If this is for a poker tournament that is not just $600. It is exponential and qualitative $600 that can be turned into super serious winnings. If he really is a friend, not a fake friend, he would ****ing pay you for it. We will see the truth.

I feel the same way you do, and although i haven't asked for anything, he text me last night about whether he owes me anything, etc. No clue as to why, i have not asked him for anything. Anyways, i explain my thoughts on the matter and told him i would like $300 if he wants to cover some of it. He transfer me $300 an few minutes later.

It had happen to me before, and i had made my friend whole. But it seems like so far, the general point of view is i should eat the loss.
Not sure if they'd do it but couldn't you ask the Casino to check the cameras to see who cashed it? If they're concerned your friend is the 'owner' of the ticket rather than you then he could make the request, and there's no reason he wouldn't make that request on your behalf if he's not the one who cashed it. I have no idea if that's something that a US casino would do. If waste of time is a concern for them you could offer to tip them for their time.

At the very least if your friend strongly refuses to make the request to go to the cameras it's highly likely he stole from you, and if he happily makes the request to go to the cameras even if the casino won't do it you can be pretty confident that he didn't steal from you as that would be a big bluff for him to run hoping that the casinos won't check and tell him 'you cashed the ticket yourself' (obviously you would need to be in on any phone call with the casino so he can't just lie about what they said assuming neither of you are still in Vegas)

Or if it's well known that Vegas casinos don't go to the cameras over stolen tickets then disregard the above obviously, someone who lives in Vegas would have a better idea of whether that's possible.

Your friend texting you out of the blue etc asking if he owes you money is either a guilty conscience or he's a really good friend, objectively as an outsider it does seem very likely you got stolen from though.

Asking someone to break the law for you while they're on vacation is super messed up. Is this what I'm missing out on by not having any friends?

That you would classify a friend placing a 100 dollar bet for another friend while in vegas as "breaking the law and super messed up" says a lot about you

I think its too late now, his already left vegas an few days ago. At first, i thought about asking him to do that when he told me, but he sounded stressed over it, so i did not bother. The money is gone and its unlikely the casino would have done anything anyways. I never known him to cheat anyone, and he makes $600 in about 2 days of work, so thats not a lot of money to him to cheat an friend out of. Maybe thats also why he was kinda careless with it

To me, it sounds like you are trying to rationalize/justify not having any friends.

It is very clearly illegal. I'm shocked the goon squad doesn't have any clue about the laws in the industry,

It's probably illegal. A lot of harmless stuff related to gambling is illegal. That doesn't mean most people care.

I wouldn’t trust your ability to know if a person is trustworthy or not.

I guess he played on your trust to not check on the ticket. Many people don’t know that the casino will honor the ticket. Things happen to the slip all the time. Baby eats it, rain, misplace, etc. Or a friend loses it.

Edit: you think he didn’t have anything to do with it? He purposely lost the slip to a confederate. Someone didn’t just magically find a $100 3-team parlay on the ground and cash it 3 minute after final game. Jesus.

It isn't probably illegal. It is 100% definitely illegal.

Also, OP never gave the person any money. He asked for a loan for his friend to commit a crime for him, then is butthurt because he friend is negligent (or maybe a crook, but whatever).

OP asked a friend to take time out of his vacay to run an errand that is akin to going to the DMV or dentist and is also a federal crime so that he could have -$6 in EV, and I'm considered weird by 95% of the forum for thinking that is messed up.

The reason normal people consider gamblers scumbags is because most of you actually are scumbags.
