BEAVER CREEK
All of a sudden the World Cup is moving at full speed and the men are already on their way to Beaver Creek, Colorado, where downhill training kicks off on Tuesday.
First appearing on the World Cup in 1997, the Beaver Creek races mark the men’s single stop in the United States. Called “Birds of Prey” because the downhill and super G tracks weave their way down Beaver Creek mountain’s steepest trails with names like Screech Owl and Golden Eagle on a wild course containing jumps that put racers in the air for what Bode Miller has in the past described as, “almost the length of a football field.” The track also features pitches that are among the steepest on the World Cup and the Birds of Prey downhill has come to be regarded as one of the most challenging endeavors in professional racing.
