I actually purchased picks from a guy who I believe to be pretty transparent. He has a losing record in most sports but Christ if he doesn't kill the NBA. Over 100 units last 3 years, so figure maybe it's worth a shot. If he is flipping coins so be it.

RAS offers picks for the first portions of NCAAF and NCAAB seasons. They consistently beat the closing numbers and usually move lines almost instantaneously upon releasing their selections. Some may consider their picks pricey or inconvenient(due to the line movements upon their release and securing the good number), but they are consistent winners.

Hittingpaydirt guys seem pretty transparent. Not huge winners but only "invested" $250 for the whole MLB season. Feeling pretty stupid since I read this and the FAQ after I spent the $. I'll let you guys know how I make out after the season if anyone cares

Even though I'm doing pretty well at baseball, I still buy picks and analysis from other people, even if it's just to fade said analysis.

Today I went to SBR forum and checked out their free pick. It was the under 8.5 of the St. Louis/Oakland game. After reading the analysis, I was absolutely certain the over was the play, and maxed out at -120.

I hope this isn't inappropriate but I'd love to sell my picks along with my analysis and there are a lot of people who seem to want to buy good picks and good anlaysis in baseball. I think trading analysis for cash is a good thing because there are a lot of people who just don't have the 5 hours/per day and math skills to bet baseball, but they want to.

I would get to build my roll variance free.

But just because I want to sell picks doesn't mean I don't buy them also. I found a pretty good stat guy who has good money o/u picks, and it's worth the money in the long run, at least to give me a framework for my own capping. And I believe he should be compensated for his work.

Guess what I'm saying is, you get what you pay for in the long run. Some people are actually good at it, and those people are usually worth the money

Interesting topic. The problem with sports services is that 99.99% of them are not really handicapping experts, they are simply marketers. Even the good services/cappers sooner or later turn into marketers and fail.

With all that said, if you can find that 0.01% that is good, then it is totally worth paying. I have been betting for years and to be actually making money long term or even to break even, you need to put a lot of time. When you don't the time, you simply have to pay a good service and spend few mins a day to check the email/text msg and place the bet. Another reason, it is good to pay someone is to keep your emotions in check. when you make your own picks, the results of the games you pick play a big factor (emotional) in the next picks...unless you are as a seasoned pro...I am a seasoned player and I still have such problems now and then. When you follow someone, you simply have to set aside a bankroll, then follow the money management and make the bets...don't even check the scores...just watch the numbers go up and down. Obviously, key is finding that good capper.

Like I said most of them are simply marketers. I have always used 1 service on the side with a separate bankroll. Back in early 2000's to mid 2000's I used dr bob during his golden years...I stopped using him around 2006 when turned into a marketer (with all the paid espn and other crap promotions)...around that time he went from a winning capper to a breaking even or losing capper. I replaced DrBob with RAS and had a good ride with him but stopped using him around 2010. He also turned in a marketer (in a subtle way), increasing the price rapidly while picking low level college games where line moves almost instantly. In 2010 I switched to BettingResource still with them, hopefully they don't turn into marketers. In my experience with the 3, I am getting the best bang for the buck with betting resource because their full year subscription includes all sports during the 365 day subscription period, plus their keep a low profile with strict (immoral to some) rules (its impossible to find their plays in so called service play forums), and they do all major sports along with cfb and cbb.

DrBob golden days (i am talking about my susbcription during early 2000's...now you can find all his stuff and ras stuff free on many forums, and are not as profitable as their good days) gets 2nd...he sells yearly subscription for each sport and it adds up to way more than br for less profit. Ras is not worth paying now at all for the reasons that i mentioned before, but he was well worth it in his early years when the prices were low. Now charging nearly 3k for a season (its actually half season because he stops when conference play starts in cbb) of 1 sport.

Like I said before 99.9% of the touts are not sports handicappers--they are either good marketers or just another broke degenerate gambler trying to make few extra bucks to support his addiction. If you are paying them, it is worse than putting the money in the garbage because their picks will cause you to more.

It is worth paying only when you find that 0.01% who are actually handicappers. Even out of the 0.01%, it is hard find someone that lasts long enough because they eventually let greed take over and turn into marketers themselves. Early 2000's dr bob was an amazing handicapper and I used him, then he went belly up once he went crazy with all his promotions and marketing on various networks. By mid 2005, i switched to RAS and he was good for few years then he also god greedy and charges insane price for half season of 1 sport where he picks small market teams with low betting limits--this in turn makes his line impossible to get. 2010 I switched to bettingresource and so far so good and definitely the best bang for the buck out of the three--i just have to hope that they don't get greedy and take dr.bobs or ras's path.

There seems to be a very thick line between the people who don't believe in touts and the people that do. You either buy em and totally believe in buying picks or you totally don't believe in buying picks and have a distaste or worse for touts.

But purely for a business discussion, there is a demand for good solid analysis and it takes a rare skill to do it, so if there is a market for it, what's wrong with it?

But this being a poker forum, I would think that it would be accepted because if you are buying picks from a +ev gambler, you basically print money. It's not much different from poker staking.

Today a friend of mine contacted me about a bet he thought had good value, and I took it and it won. If my friend sends me a bet, I'm pretty sure it's +ev because he does his homework. I have no problem sliding off a couple bucks or just putting a little extra on it for him and giving it to him if it wins. Now he's a tout and I'm a square.
