problem is i think they home make their own pickles, so if i bought htem from the store it wouldn't be the same quality and they don't sell pickles by the lb there

so that definitely drives the price of the pickles up IMO. at the supermarket pickling cucumbers are only 89 cents/lb but then you need vinegar, sugar, gas to heat the pot, etc.
