Why?

This is just a random sportsbetting section of a poker forum for anyone lol I don't understand why you are raging someone just because they are new..

People glorify these forums too much for some reason or another

Also on topic : all sportsbetting books are useless

Just learn how to model from stats forums

You can also download the thousands of sportsbetting models uploaded everyday and learn from them

The only benifet sportsbetting forums have is to learn context or in the intangibles

You'd have to bet 100 on Munich to win a dollar. The game ended 1-1.

I think you better start listening to your gf more, no sarcasm intended.
Apparently you didn't see Bayern's XG
Also 100 would win 10

There isn't one sportsbetting book out there that provides any real value nor were it the intentions of the people writing them.

I can understand why you are so attached to these forums but most people killing it these days don't come from here.

There definitely is value in a good sports betting book, even if it's just to introduce terms and concepts that a rather uneducated sports bettor like myself might have had no or little knowledge of.
Besides, if you don't mind spending a little money, I like most gambling literature simply for it's entertainment value.

Having said that, ivr is right, a successful sports bettor shouldn't have much use for most of them I would think.

I mean, if you need a book to tell you about bankroll management and fundamental concepts like that, oh boy, you have a very very long road ahead.

Looks like a really good read. I'm slowly running out of shelf space but I'll buy it!

Tom, you continue to be our great sports bet leader!
If I may humbly be allowed to be your loyal subject!

And yeah, I do have a hard time making, and keeping friends.
I wonder why

lol look at this guy giving advice. Have you figured out how to exploit your massive and never before thought of "the home teams usually win" edge yet?

no hidden message buddy. i recommend this book to everyone and sports gamblers in particular. you know in business some people focus 100% of their energy on creating the best product possible assuming it will sell itself. big mistake. you need to also invest in marketing in order to sell your product. in fact with good marketing you can sell a far inferior product. it's the same thing with sports betting probably even more so because when you're winning you're sometimes losing customers (betting outs) as fast as you can find new ones. trust me i made this mistake thinking i could go it alone and when all my betting outs dried up i was left with nothing.

This is an insane thing to say. I can think of 3 books off the top of my head that I would call basically essential reading if someone were a complete noob starting today. And yea of course they offered more value years ago when they came out, but theres plenty of concepts in some of the books Ive read that can still put money in your pocket today. I know everyone on here is an awesome billionaire and laughs at the idea of grinding props but props are still out there and still kill-able. Plus theres good info on how to make a model and how to use excel for certain things. I still re-read some of them and now and then find some nugget I didnt see before, or that I didnt think was applicable to me in the past. And you dont think anyone ever wrote a sports betting book with good intentions? Thats, again, asinine.

As for the importance of this forum... I mean youre here. How can you be a regular poster and post about how this forum sucks and doesnt matter... in said forum? Why are you here then?

But honestly the funniest thing on here is the guy who posted about how home teams are better bets than away teams because home teams win more often than away teams, and how youd have to "be an idiot to pass up an edge like that", stating that he has nothing to learn from a k. yao or J7 or any other book about sports betting.

Could you be so kind as to educate us on proper bankroll management then? If its such an easy and fundamental concept. What kind of bet-staking do you advise? What are some of the pros and cons of flat betting as opposed to kelly betting? What about a martingale system? Or a progressive system? How do you handle bad or good runs? Im interested in your learned opinion on these easy fundamental concepts.

Tom, the book seems really interesting and I intend to buy it.
That comment was self reflection and self depreciation, I know I often come across as an agitator and a dummie. Please accept my apology if I came across as making fun of you.

As to the other posters who misinterpret and attack every comment I make, it's all good. It doesn't matter, I'll just keep quiet from now.

I just read Winning Sports Betting by Masaru Kanemoto and was surprised by how good it was. I think it would make a good modern addition to the titles listed in the FAQ. I found Chapter 3 to be particularly useful knowledge (discussing when syndicates / big-time sharps place their fake bets to move a line the wrong way, vs when they're likely to place their real bets). There are other tidbits of wisdom scattered throughout the book.

If you're skimming the ToC and wondering why angles are in there, rest assured he advises against data-mining for angles and he doesn't provide a list of dumb angles to get rich from. One point he makes is that any legit angles eventually get discovered by fundamental modeling because an angle can only be legit if there's a fundamental reason for it.

Somewhere he tells an interesting anecdote about a strong angle his model uncovered about point totals in certain Japanese stadiums. It was such a good angle that he would bet against the late Pinnacle steam right up to the line close (and the closing total was off by like 1.5). Eventually Pinny became aware that he knew something, started adjusting the line to his late bets and inducing action from the other steam. Masaru regrets doing that on Pinny because had he stuck to the copycat books, he thinks his angle would have gone unnoticed much longer. Once you smarten up Pinny or CRIS, you've smartened up the whole market.

He also wrote The Theory of Modern Baseball (2019) which might be good complementary material to The Book (Tango & Lichtman 2014), with perhaps some updated info since then.

I don't think I am capable of reading a book so I will keep to my tried and trusted method of thinking if I pick only a bet with two possible outcomes then it is always 50/50.

So all I need to do is win my first bet then that pays for the juice and I am winners.
