Hi y'all,

Several years ago, I created the above thread where I asked for y'all's input (with performify's blessing!) regarding sagestats.com, an online bet tracker where you could easily keep track of your bets, analyze them, and improve your handicapping as a result.

We had some pretty big hurdles that we didn't anticipate, namely complaints about the user interface that made it annoying to enter in bets and grading delays that made a lot of people unhappy.

Well, in order to address those problems, we basically blew up the old software and started from scratch, creating a MUCH prettier and easy to use UI. It's *much* easier to enter bets now, games grade faster, and the tools to analyze your bet history are even better!

We're about to relaunch our new site with the new software, http://www.sharpbettracker.com/ , and I was hoping to get y'all's input again, since last time it was *uber* helpful!

It's still free for anyone to use, and it's still aimed at helping us all improve our sports betting and win more. Think of it like pokertracker, but for sportsbetting.

So...I'm really interested in what y'all think:

1) What about the site do you like?
2) What about the site don't you like?
3) Is there anything on the site that is confusing for you to use?

Thanks so much for y'all's help! (Again! )

Sincerely,

ensign_lee

P.S. As a thank you for your help, I'd like to offer y'all a token of our appreciation. See those girls in the welcome banner? If you'd like a custom avatar with one of them saying something, we'll create those for you as a thank you. Kind of like this:

Just let me know what you'd like it to say and we'll take care of it.

Good job. IMO this should be stickied or included in the FAQ.

Two suggestions: 1) The ability to enter custom bets (stuff that cannot be auto-graded) such as props and exotics. 2) The ability to export everything into a CSV or Excel table for further analysis.

Oh yeah, also include some alternative grading metrics such as 'action points' and 'Beating the Pinny closer' (I noticed it defaults to Pinnacle odds for any game that is on the board so you already have all this information handy).

If you could add soccer that would be nice, I can only see NBA, NHL and MLB at the moment, maybe it's there and I just can't find it though.

It's still nice though, thanks.

Thanks for the ideas, TomG!

We'll get to work on trying to allow custom bets and a way for a user to grade them himself. That way, people can enter in bets on props, futures, and other leagues that we don't currently offer.

Regarding metrics like beating the Pinnacle closer, that's a GREAT idea! We've added that to our to-do list as well.

As far as getting stickied or included in the FAQ, um, PM performify about that? I don't think I get a vote for that lol.

Oreos: you're right; right now we don't soccer. Sorry about that! What soccer leagues do you bet so that we can try to find lines for that league?

I think you would be better just going with TomGs idea of custom bets. There are lots of soccer leagues so you would probably save yourself quite a bit of work doing this.

I love your site. It helps me keep track of bets the same way PT3 helps me with poker. Thank you so much for this creation.

No more messy paper trail of daily picks, and excel spread sheet w/ win/loss $ per day. This site seems great so far, just wish it showed pitching matchups, game time starts, and the option to enter props (for $ tracking purposes). But it's all free so I can't complain.

Any other good sites and software I'm missing? Since I can't play 3-4 hours of online poker anymore, I need another gambling vice to satisfy me. So far, since I starting betting daily again since March Madness, this has been a ton of fun!

Hey Hank,

Where did you want the pitching matchups and game time starts shown? Right now, we have them showing up whenever you're choosing games to enter bets on. Is that not where you had in mind?

Based on your comments and those of others in this thread, we've added adding custom games to our to-do list.

Thanks for the kind words guys! We really appreciate it. I'm glad the site's been getting such a warm reception so far.

If any of you lurkers are liking the site, please do post encouraging messages like this! If nothing else, it bumps the thread to the top so other people can find it later as well!

BTW, does nobody want the custom avatars from the girls? I haven't seen any requests in this thread yet lol.

ensign_lee,

A couple suggestions in regards to the software.

If you're using Pinnacle, have the opening line listed when a person enters their bet. They would still enter the bet at the line they got it at but see the opening line as well. This way over time they can see if they are beating the number or losing to it. For example if Cleveland opened at -130 over Seattle and by the time the person bet it, Cleveland was now -155 they would see they paid higher juice on the bet. Over time this all adds up and a bettor can see if they are betting too late and make the necessary adjustments to their wagering schedule.

A printable daily line schedule for people to be able to print out. Even if you exported the daily sheets from Covers that would be good. I am thinking somewhere down the line you want this to be a one stop shop. View stats, odds and wager history and sprinkle in line sheets, weather and pie graphs showing what people are wagering on in % of bets and you could have something big on your hands.

I'll take a hot blonde that says I love TJ and RaiseandFold Poker Room.

TJ,

Thanks for the input. Making the default lines be the Pinnacle openers was something we actually hadn't thought about. We had just assumed that people would want the current line.

Hey everybody: What would you rather see as the default line? The Pinnacle opening line? or the Pinnacle current line?"

For your sign, I'm thinking that that many words/characters will make the text on the sign *super* small. Can you shorten it at all?

What is the ultimate goal for this project? Do you plan on eventually charging for premium features? Selling advertisements? Data-mining for winning players?

I remember you as a semi-regular poster in this forum several years ago. Now 3 years later you re-surface with a brand new version of your tracking tool. Where have you been?

As far an ultimate goal, I don't think I really had one. The way this started was I got annoyed at the excel sheets I was using and so started working with my buddy to develop a better way to do it. Then we started thinking that it'd be cool to develop something like that that *everyone* could use, instead of just me. And...here we are. I don't mind paying hosting costs and stuff for now. Eventually, might ask for some site donations like pokertracker did before it went to a pay model, but I'm not at that point yet.

Anyway, as far as my posting went, I migrated over to therx.com for all my sports betting stuff since it had more traffic. That's where I've been hanging out. ^^

Oh, and school and graduation and starting new jobs. That took a lot of time as well. lol

You have enough space to list the Pinny opener and the pinny current # which is already there when people go to input their info. Thing is people are going to have different current lines than pinny so it doesn't matter, they are going to change it to what they want it to be anyway.

The ultimate for you would be this:

You have opening line, the line the player bet the selection at and the closing pinny #.

There's not a need for a vote or debate that's really what the best use anyway and nothing else. Because truly nothing else matters in the scope of things.

As for my hot blonde you can use the I (heart) TJ at RaiseandFold

+1 re soccer, esp. premiership/champions league

also +1 @are you datamining our stuff? What kind of privacy features/TaC are there?

How about export features for bets, so we can download records to excel, etc?

Oh, and the real money is in apps. I tried like heck to find a 1/2 decent tracker app earlier and they all seemed terrible. If you had an iPhone/iPad/Blackberry app attached to this I think you could turn it into a real popular item.

Finally can I get a "Boy would I love to hang out with this guy Brad" ?

Hey Brad,

Nope, not datamining.

As far as privacy features and stuff go, there's no real way for anybody to view your bet history unless you decide to share it, so hopefully that puts your mind at ease.

Yeah...phone apps are...difficult to program. And we're still trying to make sharpbettracker be a good bet tracker, so while we have that on our to do list, it's probably going to be a long way off. Sorry.

Regarding your sign, do you think you could shorten that somehow? The text on your sign is going to be insanely tiny if I include all those words. Preferably less than 5.

Hey TJ,

Sorry for the long delay. Blonde was getting really flaky, so I had the brunette do it instead. Hope you don't mind!
