Re: April - June LC Thread: Good old country hardball

I wasn't going to say anything about this PM but then I noticed that my picks in the MLB thread, one of which had already won and two of which are currently full arbs vs Pinny, had been deleted so **** it.

Please also consider that I really don't get a thrill out of having to do any actual modding in that forum and would appreciate if you could participate without trying to push the envelope in there so I don't actually have to think about things or attempt to make decisions. Thanks.
It's amusing how it is fine for every Tom, Dick, and Harry who registers here to post their -EV garbage in the pick threads but a regular poster with a potentially winning model decides to post, sets a benchmark for said picks, and it somehow constitutes trolling.

You are worthless, Bob.

Iowa - You could explain that to me normally...like an adult without being weird about it.

How am I supposed to know that there is an actual model behind your picks and they are legit when YOU are the one that says, "I'll post a couple of picks per night that have an expected ROI of greater than -2.2% in the 2012 MLB Thread along with some narrative fallacies if it will help people get over the loss of BrianL."

and then add silly and trolly joke write-up additions to each pick?

I posted the PM because I think the people who choose to keep their records here have a right to know that their posts could be deleted at any moment by an inept, overbearing mod.

YOU wouldn't know because you're clueless when it comes to sports wagering, but the rest of the forum would have noticed within 1-2 weeks that I was crushing market if that in fact wound up being the case.

It's almost as though you aren't qualified to moderate a sports betting forum.

Re: April - June LC Thread: Good old country hardball

As I said, if you want to discuss this normally and tactfully then feel free to do so. Via PM would be fine or, I guess, in the thread since that seems to be your preference.

All you had to do was explain that your posts were not trolls and were indeed legitimate picks. Tell the mod who doesn't know as much about sports-betting exactly what you are telling me now...without the unnecessary insults.

And explain that what clearly seemed to be a follow-through from your previous post in which you DIRECTLY STATED you were going to troll the thread was actually not what you were doing.

I would have been happy to un-delete your posts and your picks with even the remotest amount of non-freakout behavior.

As it stands, the way you are going about this isn't helpful for anyone.

Re: April - June LC Thread: Good old country hardball

Who cares if they are troll picks is the entire point of his argument.

What makes it any different than the average guy who comes on here and posts his picks? Do you have any idea how many posters (thousands) have come and gone posting their picks? What ever happened to our very precious Assani in the NBA thread?

He is following the rules by posting it in the MLB thread, unlike other dopes like ZScore or the hundreds of others who have decided to make their own tracking thread.

Who gives a crap about writeups anyway? Are people not aware you can cherry pick a bunch of stats supporting the side you are on regardless of what side it is?

Why is it when anyone questions you, you automatically accuse them of freaking out or flying off the handle, or displaying ignorant behavior?

Re: April - June LC Thread: Good old country hardball

He can question me fine and I have no problem with that.

Explaining your case as you have done seems fine to me too.

The difference isn't hard to see. If I make a mistake, and I will make many, dealing with it without flying off the handle is still required.

I think you (and others) can see how his post in the thread directly saying he was going to troll, and then posting picks with joke/trolly write-ups, would have provided the conclusion I came to.

He could have simply PM'ed back saying, "hey, I understand why you got confused there. But those picks I am providing really are legitimate and I am adding them for the good of the forum. Yeah, the write-up stuff is obviously a joke so if that's really a problem then I apologize. Thought it was understood that was a joke. But the picks themselves aren't. And, to be honest, I don't think it's a big deal to post joke write-ups since almost all the sincere attempts to make write-ups are total jokes anyway."

This isn't hard. Mods get tactful PM's like that all the time.

Instead of saying I am worthless and clueless...perhaps try the tactic of NOT saying I am worthless and clueless.

Re: April - June LC Thread: Good old country hardball

So you delete the guy's posts(that clearly didn't violate anything) and you expect him to treat you with the same respect you didn't treat him with?

Why didn't you approach him first before you clearly accused him of something he wasn't doing?

Just un-delete the posts, because they are legitimate and leave everyone the **** alone.

I was directly responding to this (and his apparent follow-through) and did so privately

I didn't say he was worthless or clueless or anything of the sort. I said, "hey, I can't let you post false picks and troll" (like he just said he was going to do).

So reply to me, explain the reality of the situation, normally, then I undelete them, nobody needs to be involved in any drama or any insults thrown.

Everyone moves on.

Re: April - June LC Thread: Good old country hardball

Redtuber - By false picks, I meant that I thought he was not genuinely providing picks that he recommended. The obviously trolly write-up thing he was providing fooled me.

I thought his post to say he was going to provide picks with nonsense write-ups to be just silly and harmless at the time. But then when I subsequently saw the picks with the jokey/trolly write-ups I understandably thought what I did.

Re: April - June LC Thread: Good old country hardball

Bob is a nice guy and all, I don't have anything against him and if he were just a normal poster he'd be one of the better ones (considering some of the mouthbreathers we get in here). It was nice of Bob to help out and step up, but he's not qualified to mod this forum, and I think the forum would benefit if we could get someone that knows more about SB. If I remember correctly, I don't think Bob really wants to be a moderator anyway. Bob can go back to his role of casual posting, and we can have somebody in charge who knows what they're doing. It would be best for everyone involved.

Re: April - June LC Thread: Good old country hardball

Holiday - I have suggested to a few and can say so publicly here: If any poster who feels they have a handle on this forum better than I do wants to contribute via stickies, recommendations to me, thoughts on decisions, whatever, then I welcome that feedback.

Those who I have approached privately about this typically have said they aren't really interested in doing that nor in modding the forum.

As for a change, the other mods and Mat are kind of selective about who they accept. If somebody has caused waves or problems as a poster then it is not likely they would be accepted as a mod. Not impossible though.

Micro, I noticed that you are back to being a hard nosed mod after the brianl fallout. But I agree with holiday.
Although you are trying to make this forum a better place, its not working out too well atm
Probablly better to ditch the bitterness on here and focus on broadcasting
I can't imagine getting any fullfillment from Modding this forum

Re: April - June LC Thread: Good old country hardball

Chronic - I didn't piss on anyone and certainly wasn't looking to do so. He could have explained where I misunderstood and it would have been fine. How am I to blame here? I am perfectly willing to admit I make mistakes. No biggie.

Other mods misunderstand things in their own forums all the time. Happens to different posters in the internet forum or elsewhere all the time. If I see something then I write to them without saying, "you're clueless and an idiot." It's more like:

- "Hey, you misunderstood."

- "Oh. I see. Thanks for explaining. Yeah, I wasn't clear on that. You definitely know better on this situation than I do."

- "No prob. Glad I could help. Carry on."

Or they make a decision I disagree with (locking a thread I thought was fine)

- "Hey, I think you were premature in locking that thread.

- "Thought it was done. It's still worthwhile?"

- "Yeah, I think so."

Seriously. This stuff isn't hard.

Nothing at all hard-nosed about what I did. Not at all. No bitterness here. If it was a mistake what I did then no biggie. Overcome whatever mistakes and move on. I do get a bit annoyed at your misreading of so many different situations but that's a different story.

Iowa however does seem a bit bitter to me.

There are no other mods willing to take over this forum who know anything about sportsbetting. I'm not sure any non-mod in here would be accepted as a mod.

We've been around this before and it's really tired. Some people see some mistake they believe I make and then jump to conclusions and go all wacky about needing a new mod. Since every other decision is accepted by half the people in here and denounced by the other half it kind of ends up going that way sometimes.

Chronic himself had the brilliant idea of clamping down MORE on the regulars in this forum...which many others would think is a really bad move.

Most in here seem to be fine with me as a mod (and said so in December when the topic of me as mod had come up) and also seem to realize that not everyone is going to be thrilled with 100% of the decisions. To me, that's kind of obvious. But in here I guess it isn't quite so much for some people.

Recs from a power poster:
-Steer any individual picks threads in to the thread designated for the sport

-Steer any new threads with a question that gets asked over and over to the chatter thread where it can get answered, ignored, or trolled

-Move any new thread that should have just been asked in chatter to chatter, if a topic is dominating the chatter thread, move it to its own thread

-Delete spam

-Don't delete posts that aren't spam

...and thats it?

The only people who complain about a mod not being active enough in here are those getting butt hurt because they were called out for being the morons that they don't know that they are yet.

ftr, i shot a pretty long pm to bob about the brianl situation, and he responded pretty well in the face of me being pretty accusatory.

bob, you do seem way too quick to drop the 'normally and tactfully' line. like i said before, i kinda think your feelings get hurt sometimes (in basically JUST this forum too, you don't get like that other places i see you) when it isn't really about that.

does def seem like you've been more touchy about things the last couple weeks.

but that isn't how this forum is. i know that's basically a meme now, but arguing is part of it.

then you could also say that you definitely don't hold up your end in the conversation above.

did you come at brianl like that? on some 'sir i think you are wrong' ****? hell no you didn't. and i'm totally not trying to make this about him at all, as far as i was concerned the pm's ended that for me.

it's like sometimes you want to 'joke around with the boys', and others, you want to be THE MOD.

also, i'm in the camp of 'no one can be the mod here besides perf who let anything and everything fly'. whenever 2p2 decided this forum couldn't be like that, they essentially doomed anyone who would have to be the mod.

and we can't just be ATF threading mods twice a year.

that said, bob you do go from wanting to troll with the guys to 'guys this trolling is uncalled for' too much. find the middle ground. deleting picks because you deem them trolling isn't the middle ground.
