Okay, so I wanted to check my tote ticket for bets I had made for Saratoga and Del Mar.
I stray over from the poker room to the bank of Tote machines, nobody is anywhere near them. I start running my tickets through and some big dude gets right on top of me and say's "What are you doing" "Didn't you see my money in that machine?"
I had run 3 losing tickets in so no balance changed on the tote machine. I look at the balance and it's $1.65.
"Oh, sorry, didn't see that anybody was using it -- was just checking my tickets."
"You check your tickets over there" he says. I reply, these machines check 'em too you know".
This kinda infuriates him and he gets up in my face. He's 1/2 as old, twice as big and has back-up all around him.
I say "Dude, I'm not trying to steal your $1.65 so whats the problem here?"
He goes into some sarcastic rant about me calling him dude and me being a racist because of it .... I shimmy around him and walk off.
WTF was going on here? Nobody was by that bank of tote machines.
actually two people tried to pull this on me a couple years ago at two different casinos. both times i just said lets get a manager and he can run through the history of the machine (don't even know if that is possible) and split the money between us accurately and both times the guys said he'll go get him and never came back.
now the machines where i play spit out a ticket with the balance if there's no action in a couple minutes so i haven't seen it since, but before that happened i'd always see the same two guys stalking the machines looking for people to run it on. also now the machines look different when there's a balance vs before where they looked exactly the same whether there was $0 in or $100
sounds like a scam. guy waits for someone to run a few tickets. then goes up to him and says hey that was my machine and stake claim to whatever balance is there. good thing you didn't run any winners or you'd have to deal with a big hassle.
