After that nice start blew it all on the Giants game. Did get Ty Wil o44 in there too. Literally ended the week down half a unit due to sizing, lol.

Something smells very fishy there

I read in the WSJ today (brag) this whole story about how the Rams and other teams are gambling on young HC's now; I keep telling people it was one game against possibly the worst roster in football outside of the Jets and going into McVay's 2nd game as a coach.. Getting Donald back will be nice but I agree that it's worth being extra cautious.

They're loaded with talent on both sides of the ball though. If nothing else they probably underperformed with what they had before. If Goff plays average they're in any home game I'd say.

I figure:

top 15 OL
top 6-7 RB
top 10 WR's as a whole top to bottom (Watkins, Kupp, Woods, Austin)
top 5 kicker
top 5 front 7 when Donald is in
special teams could be elite
bad secondary, which is obviously where they have to draft now

They COULD be decent

It feels like people have been waiting on the Rams to breakout for a while now and this could be their shot, but they need a real statement game to get people behind them. Washington could be the start of that validation. If they can perform well at home against Kirk & co then I think the conversation shifts. But until they have that statement win, I'm remaining a little skeptical.

Redskins travelling out west is tough too. A few years ago when Baltimore was good they went to San Diego and we're +3 and I couldn't believe it. They lost easily.

I remember being on the Rams upset of Seattle a couple yrs ago & was thrilled to fade them as a road favorite @Wash week2 which they lost.

I am sort of digging this team though for reasons above. The coaching staff is likely a massive upgrade and with their DL talent and WR weapons which are new that's a nice core if Goff can be at all competent. You just wish they had a better HFA. But it's not like -2.5 is some premium price; you could look back at it in Dec. and think "this would be way higher now". Cousins has now thrown up on himself in 3 big home games in the last month+ of games [Panthers/Giants playing for nothing last year] & looks to be who we thought he was.

When you can't easily put 8 in the box vs Gurley, things change. Watkins-Kupp-Woods demand some respect certainly, so there's way less cheating on Gurley. Not exactly world beating knowledge, but it sure makes a difference vs last year's squad where all you had to do was scheme against #30.

I thought Goff was bad, but he may have quite a lot of potential to improve (again not surprising but it looked dicey for a bit there).

Biggest thing people are missing is that imo McVay was the main reason that Cousins has looked great the last few years, although Djax/Garcon have also obv been a huge help. FO had Garcon 10th in DYAR and 14th in DVOA in 2016 and Djax 12th/13th. Sure, FO's rating are based on player X in offensive system Y playing with QB Z, but it was McVay's offensive system:

From wiki:
Quote:
On January 14, 2014, he was promoted by new Redskins head coach, Jay Gruden, to offensive coordinator. In his first year as offensive coordinator, he turned the team's offense into the 12th ranked pass offense in the National Football League (NFL) -- averaging 268.4 passing yards per game with third year quarterback, Kirk Cousins -- the 17th ranked rush offense, with 97.9 rushing yards per game, and the 10th ranked total offense in the NFL, a year after the team's offense finished ranked 25th in total offense, averaging 24.3 points per game and 353.8 total yards per game. In 2016, the offense ranked as the third best pass offense in the NFL with 309.3 passing yards per game, improved to the 20th ranked rush offense after being 25th the year prior (averaging 106.0 rushing yards per game), and finished 12th overall in total offense, averaging 24.8 points per game and 385.6 total yards per game.
So was it McVay or garcon + djax along with cousins maturing? Can't be sure, but McVay, djax, and garcon are gone and Cousins looked like hot garbage in his first game without them. Plus, the skins management continually refuse paying Cousins like he is a top 10 QB despite multiple years of top 5/top 10 numbers, which seems insane, unless they also doubt that he is that good.

Might be slanted in my opinion because I'm a skins homer, but I would have instafired Gruden to keep McVay, he's the real deal imo. Even if you don't buy that McVay isn't suddenly going to make Goff into a great QB, the skins look like a dumpster fire atm. So while I doubt the rams are as good as they looked against the loljets, they should def be improved a bunch from last year, plus the redskins look significantly worse.

Rams are much improved there's no doubt about it. But the sharp play here is on the skins.

The Colts were just an embarassment to the game of football. I don't think I'll do anything involving that team for the rest of the year.
