Similar things happen all the time; the PG takes the inbounds, dribbles up the court, and then lets the ball dribble on its own a couple times as he takes a moment to wipe his shoes or whatever. You can run up and try to take the ball, but he's obv gonna see you coming and stop doing what he's doing and probably go by you.
