Snowmen Playalong Hand Snowmen Playalong Hand

Pounds 0.25/0.50 game (close enough to sneak it into SSNL?)

Don't usually do play alongs but the way I played this wasn't that standard I think

Stacks

Hero 110 pounds
SB 120 pounds
BB 35 pounds

SB is villain in this hand - passive pre, a bit aggro post, sees me as a blind stealer
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...28#post2069928

Hero has been very active at the table, preflop raising 3-4 consecutive hands (couple times to punish open limpers, couple times had hands)

Hero has 88 OTB

Preflop 2 callers, Hero calls, SB completes BB checks

I did not raise because theres a good chance I felt I could get 3 bet off the hand here quite often

Flop AQ8

SB checks, BB bets $1, Hero ??

What do you guys think? 1) standard raise to $4 or $5? 2) call to not shut out deep stack weak player in the SB on this relatively non threathening rainbow board?

Thx

Man if you have someone who sees you as a "blind stealer" in the SB and you have 88 OTB you really need to be jacking this up PF. As played just raise here, valuetown this guys stack into the middle.

Raise PF. You have a solid hand on the button against two limpers. You should be raising a TON of hands in this spot, to the point that 88 is pretty high in your range. If you've been aggressive, you REALLY, REALLY want to be raising this hand in position here, especially with your read on the small blind.

As to the flop, you absolutely MUST raise here. Obviously folding is just dumb, but you need to realize calling is almost as bad. You have an aggressive image against loose passive players. Make a pot-sized or near pot-sized raise (to $7 or $8), to get value out of your hand. You have a set on an ace-high flop. Your opponents are playing any ace, and they're sure not folding one here. Build a pot and get paid off.

I smell comedic potential; something about stacking off "light" or "thin" value bets or a "sick" call or "kiddie" stakes.

Raise to 3.50 preflop; as played raise flop to 5.

In limped pots w/ decent stack sizes, there's much less room for slowplaying. Of course, you'll shut out players who might have came along had you just called, but:

1.) If anyone has anything decent they are probably calling regardless.

2.) The tiny value you might miss from marginal hands in your opponent's range that would have called if you did not raise pales in comparison to the added value that you gain from the upper parts of your opponent's range when you stack your opponents, and you can't really stack your opponents if you don't raise.

I guess I was having FPS.... (I agree with you)

Continuing the action:

I didn't want to shut SB out and just called $1. SB check raises to $4.50, BB folds, Hero?

1) smooth call again to pop him on the turn as he is betting ~ 100% on the turn or 2) reraise which is for value and will confuse the heck out of him? If 2) size of raise?

Thx

raise pf - i'd limp from the sb, but on the button this hand is just way too good not to raise. i'd pop up the limpers super wide here

raise flop - you have a set in a limped pot, you need to get the money in
