They start out, because they sucked, and then want to not suck any more by hiring coaches who listen to their various bad-beat-stories, when in fact they just need fundamental changes in their thinking behaviour - which is - of course - actually impossible to implement, because actually they needed to hire someone to beat the microstakes. At higher stakes, I don't know, but at micros, I'm always hesitant, because I can't really teach random players how to think about poker. Dunno.
I agree with this, that's why I said truly good coaching is really hard.

I agree that NLHE is almost solved mathematically, but that's also the reason why fundamentals shouldn't be a priority for a coach, because tbh everything is free to find and if you aren't capable to understand the information you are most likely on your maximum level already.

Anyway I'm not saying it's useless, but to be honest live poker is just complete **** and if I'd have to take a coach that doesn't play online anymore I wouldn't feel comfortable. Hell I haven't played the last 6 weeks a single hand, because of my thesis and I already feel rusty while I was beating 400.
I think you misread my post if you think I was just saying that it's about the fundamentals.

yeah my bad. Can't read for **** in the morning however I do feel that a pokerplayer should have a grasp of how to examine situations and think about poker. Having a coach so you have another point of perspective shouldn't be the job of the coach. It's better / cheaper to have a study group so you have even more perspectives and discussion possibilities.

there are some really bad advice given out in study groups.

advice from

coach>study groups>live pros

coaching can be very helpful. if that student can pick up one or two things he/she likes and can implement that small edge(sometimes really big) than I think it goes a long way. the best advice is obviously befriend good poker players lol.

chelsea such a **** club. Playing defensively for 90 minutes not doing anything and hoping for that miracle of Drogba. Having so much luck that bayern is completely exhausted. They got crushed by Dortmund for the Bokal. Oh well.
