I dont really see the danger online poker has to the NFL. Am I missing something? I'm surprised they dont go the other route and try and get online sports betting legalized. But yeah fk Roger Goodell.

Obv he was responsible for the UIGEA stipulation to keep online fantasy sports gambling legal but why is it that draftday seems to be the only site taking advantage of this?

Hey guys thanks for the information. Jonathan is it good if I contact you on skype in couple weeks to talk about it more? I'm interested in those tests and just the regular work environment.

It's also that I don't especially see myself as smart, but others say I do. I'm really lazy, but that only counts for university, because I find it ******ed and only wnat that **** piece of paper to get inside a firm like Optiver to get an interview :d Maths are my strongest skill definately, but I my knowledge of trading and wholesaling has diminished over the years so I need to get it up to a higher level again.

Not even sure if I want to try out for it, because my dad told me basically the same as you guys that it's a high level firm and I don't want to let my dad down in a way you know, because he knows the ceo.

also lol at this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MY-LIFE-SALE...#ht_974wt_1141

As far as I can gather Curve, they actually prefer that you don't have any trading experience or specific knowledge of how they go about doing it is what they do.

They just want really smart people, who they'll then train up based on their methods, way of trading, etc.
i.e. They want eager students ready and willing to absorb info rather than know-it-all's

And there's no harm in applying or failure imo... I'm sure others can give you a better run down of the interview process, but preparing by way of appropriate math exercises would definitely be worthwhile.

yeah I'm eager as **** for something I want to do. University I couldn't give a f about and still managed to get a perfect on my math at uni. It's also one of the reasons I had literally 0 friends at university, because they find me lazy and arogant yet.

Thanks poowpow yeah if I would go ahead and apply for an interview I'd definately prep myself for some maths again thanks!

NCSU,

draftday is far from the only real-money fantasy sports site.

curve,

feel free to contact me for sure, but know that i'm not a trader and am not that knowledgeable.

any estimates on when/if US players will receive their funds from ftp/doj?
08-12-2012 , 01:12 PM
trading talk...im interested.

i was a ssnl grinder/msnl dobbler for the past 1-2 years and ive given up poker recently due to some circumstances and started studying finance/trading and to "go back to school". (i guess some people will know who i am based on this description.) i started reading this book last night titled "the poker face of wall street" by aaron brown. i was interested to find the correlation and similarities between the two until i came across this excerpt in the third chapter..

25/50 live game he's 37.5k deep
he flats JTs vs 9x open, 5 players to the flop, JT8cch, pot is around 2.5k he decides that with a made hand on a wet flop he should protect his hand. three players are short and one covers him. open donk jams into five players, one deep rest short stack, gets called off by the asian who covers with JJ.

first of all, is this real life?

was poker this easy in 2006? i hope that his arguments for the finance side are valid. (the reviews on amazon was pretty solid.) not that i expected to, but i sure as hell won't be learning any poker tips from this book.

curve good luck with the job dude i hope it works out.
08-12-2012 , 01:23 PM
i would lol at 9x opens, but its pretty standard in macau lol
08-12-2012 , 01:46 PM
it all depends on the live fish, but yeah even with my minimal live experience I've been in games where every hand opened 10bb+ with callers.
@tannej thanks for the offer
@igolf nothing is set yet still have 2 exams to do in 2 weeks (was super ill in december so I couldnt do them) and after that going to relax for a month or so and then will start going for interviews but optiver caught my attention and talked about it with my dad and he todl me he can get me an interview without any problem so.
08-12-2012 , 03:28 PM
Dude that sounds like a pretty sweet deal. I would give it a shot. I wonder how they would view your poker background (plus ev?)

Yeah 9x lol but he's playing super deep so I guess it's standard in deep live poker?

Brb finishing this book to understand trader fish thought processes in future live games

Hopefully things keep progressing. I'll maybe update the MSNL Trading thread a little more in depth in the coming months.
What shop did you start at? Just started a 2 year training program at Quad Capital in NYC (rival to FNY, although looks like they're having issues atm) with good pay + benefits, loving it so far even with the crazy hours.

740bb open shove into 50bb "for protection", this does sound like how ~2005 poker gets described.
Did he at least think all the stacks were short?

Not really. I'm not an expert but I know at least two that offer that much (and I don't really know more than two so lol sample size could be on me)

I'm fairly undecided on what to think about working in trading. The big plus is that it attracts pretty smart people in general which is exactly what I'm looking for in a job (I'd say it's more important than salary for me) but otoh trading seems like it's not much fun and oftentimes breeds a pretty crappy atmosphere and is competition based.

I think the main reason why I stopped playing poker more and more is that jobs that are focused on competition are pretty idiotic in general. Maybe that's the software guy in me but I like my value to come from doing stuff that other people simply aren't doing instead of beating them at what they do. In essence I'd rather win a gold medal in throwing a spoon than beating Bolt if that makes any sense.

well for my thesis I went to this small company called Transport & Mobility and they get hired by the government and companies to make reports about questions etc.. All those guys that work there are masters in engineering (this was the lowest besides their secretary lolz) and most had doctorates or created their own trafic models etc.

All nerdballers, but I doubt they make a lot of money. I had a blast with one of them talking besides my thesis and he told me that every day during lunch they play quake on their own server etc. which is pretty cool, but then again I want to make money so I can do things I'd normally not be able to. For instance my trackdays are like 1000 euro for just one day of driving incl all costs.

so I think it's a trade off you have to make about joy and money / potential. There are always situations where you can have it all, but they are harder to find.

What I don't even...? Doesn't every job/career concern competition in one way or another?
08-13-2012 , 03:10 PM
Eventually, yes. All I'm saying is that I'm a greedy monopolist and would rather work in places where I can have a monopoly.

I want to play DayZ mod on Arma II. FPS shooter in a 15x15km level with cities etc. Real time calendar and it's an infested world with zombies. You start with literally nothing and can do whatever the f you want. Fly choppers, have orgies, go nazi on zombies or people.

One thing though: dead is dead and you can start from 0 again =)

has anyone been following that NVG thread about adz? It's soo long. Is adz confirmed scammer?
08-14-2012 , 01:27 AM
I've been following it....it's not confirmed but it has some pretty crazy conspiracy theories going on with Swedish biker gangs and ****. ADZ is definitely a crazy person with bipolar though it seems that's confirmed.
08-14-2012 , 02:32 AM
adz is legit insane.
