I can't really comment on that because I tangle with him since 2008 and we've established a somewhat unique dynamic. In a vacuum it's prolly 0EV at best to 4b/c 99 vs him. Especially for a tight guy like you.
In the end it doesn't really matter since reg battles will be +/- 0 mostly anyways, and I personally am just at war with him in a friendly competitive way, that's really fun for the two of us. I just happened to get the worst of it recently but that'll change

Just had one of those refreshing $1000 below EV sessions. Highlight was definitely 3-betting from UTG+1 against a very tight UTG opener, and having a bad reg cold 4-bet/snap call it off with JJ against my AA and get there. Those are the moments where you feel like poker isn't dead but it still feels impossible that you'll ever win again.
