How did you online guys find transitioning to live? I was never amazing online but probably finished up $120k or so over 3 years, so definitely decent. I'm finding my live results to be pretty mediocre. It's hard to get an idea of whether or not it is just sample size, but are there any good articles/vids/books for making the transition? I live a 10m drive from Crown Casino melbourne so would like to up my live game for some extra pocket money but so far I'm basically breaking even

Honestly you just have to play a lot, and it will become pretty apparent what you need to do to adjust

Its the rake that's killing you. Its borderline unbeatable at Crown. I don't play there because I object to the fleecing of players but having said that crown regs are just horrible and you should be crushing but if variance is against you plus horendous rake then your win rate will be low obviously.

Ask some of the regs about home games.

if you won online at any point in the last 10 years you should be a winner live. as was said the rake is terrible in plenty of casinos, so think about that and whether it's worth playing in a particular game.

it can be quite frustrating to sit in slow-moving games and lose to nine ******s who seem to be tacitly tag teaming you. relax and keep thinking about adjustments - it's probably just variance and a bit of your unfamiliarity with the best strategy.

remember how fun poker was when you started and every situation was new and challenging? try to look at each preflop and postflop situation in the same way.

also, congrats randiek!

How to win at live poker: run good
06-19-2013 , 12:26 PM
i was a small winner online, after BF I took a break from poker. couldn't even fathom playing live as it was too slow. I got the itch to stop drinking as much and started playing a couple days/week starting this jan.

beating the 1/2 for like $22/hr over small 300 hour sample; i actually really enjoy playing and feel less obligated than i did when there was always 1000 games to choose from only a click away. i'm not sure how i'm running to be honest but i feel like there are just so many free pots to be had if you play good poker in position, hand read well, etc you can win with pretty low variance

granted it's 1/2.. hope to take 2/5 shots when roll is a little larger

glad you guys have been winning, I'm thinking about playing more live poker too. I actually just deposited a little online though on ACR to try them out, and I was unaware of how much money goes to jackpots/rake races, at micro stakes with the rake too, I'm not sure if those games are beatable. like nl25 3 way limped pot $0.75 went down to $0.47 just from rake/jackpots and it affects cbet size/how much is won from small pots. do you guys recommend getting off of here? it looks incredibly fishy if anyone wants to deposit and play higher stakes

I've been away from 2p2 for a little bit but dabbling a little with live pokers and skydiving lol

Just put a little edit together. Thought maybe some of you would enjoy this. Set to 720p and maximize. Thanks!

i almost jizz in my pants watching that. You guys are insanely awesome, i always wanted to skydrive. you guys must skydive a lot to be able to jump alone. i would **** in my pants if i wasn't in a tandem.
06-23-2013 , 10:05 PM
that was cool. do you have video production experience? it was put together really well imo.
06-23-2013 , 11:00 PM
Thanks guys!

You only need like 2-3 tandems to start skydiving alone. These clips are all from my training levels 1 through 7. (clips mostly from levels 6-7). If you pass them all, you're still a student until you have your A-license which is 25 solo jumps minimum (including your training levels). So I'm a student pretty much.

My next jumps will probably be a lot less stressful in terms of not having to follow training instructions but I won't have someone jumping with me until I obtain my A license. That's going to be kind of scary

Thanks Keyser.. nah I don't have any production experience.. just ran with an idea in my head about what I wanted to have filmed while going through training and my friends helped me out a bunch with learning the program/filming. This was my first video edit I've done so I downloaded sony vegas pro 12 and watched a few youtube videos and ran with it. Took a few weeks to make but pretty happy with the results

Yea that was my instructor coming in extremely fast. I probably won't be able to do anything like that for another couple hundred jumps. Landing a parachute right now is a little tricky to time but I'm getting the hang of it.

i agree with keyser, the video was well made, especially since its the first one too, couldn't tell.

also about my last post on ACR, it seems really soft if anyone wants to play there, I'm just playing non jackpot tables at micros for now, i'll probably be able to move up soon. the software is not very good especially for multi tabling, but the 1/2 and 2/4 games seemed to have a lot of fish

Very cool video mate.

Random questions re finances, figured I'd post here since it's probably most relevant here compared to other threads I post in. Basically weighing up spending/saving.

Short summary about my situation. I'm in a pretty good spot financially at the moment. Good credit here, will have about 20k sitting in a bank doing nothing once I get my tax return in a month or so, and have a good income. After taking out my 12% automatically deducted superannuation (401k) and all of my living expenses (rent/food/petrol/reasonable entertainment) I have about 30k/year of discretionary funds. I'm trying to weigh up how much of this should be saved, and how much I should spend on enjoying life to the fullest. FWIW i'm a single 27yo male and income is steady and I should average at least what I'm earning now for the rest of my working life.

I figure of that 30k, I need to save a minimum of 10k/year. Super equates to about 13k or so, and based on some calculations I did on the govt website that will equate to roughly $1m by retirement age of 55, so I'm relatively sorted for retirement. I figure 10k/year minimum as savings at this stage is good, but finding it hard to justify saving the other 20k. For me that extra 20k would be used to buy a new car and have one awesome holiday or two decent holidays every year.

I feel like I SHOULD be saving as much as I can, but struggling to find any rational reason for it. I have emergency money available. I'm basically set for retirement due to superannuation. I have no financial burdens at the moment. Friends have told me I will be able to buy a house sooner or retire earlier if I save now, but I'd much rather enjoy money now then have some extra cash when I'm 50 and I can't really see any tangible benefit to buying a house in 2 years instead of 4.

I guess i've basically justified to myself that living life and spending money now is a smart decision (as long as I am still saving a min of 10k/year + automatic retirement savings) but for some reason I feel like I should be saving more.

Obviously if I was older or closer to having kids it would be different, but I'm a minimum of 3 years away from having kids (more like 5-7) so I feel like a) even if I leave things as is I'll be healthy financially and realistically I would just ramp things up once I'm coupled up and planning a family.

Is there any good reason I shouldn't just ball out and enjoy life now?

I don't know what it's like on your side of the world but over here it's highly likely that the pension funds will have gone bankrupt or be worth very little. Therefore it's worth saving more.

I tend to think **** it though and just drink a lot of beer with my money. Past a certain point there are definitely diminishing returns to savings.

Yeah I think Australia is one of the few countries where you can be relatively confident with that kind of thing, plus I'll proabbly do a self managed one so I think I can control where the money goes and diversify it a little more.

On that note, Australia really is pretty awesome for quality of life. The average income for someone who works full time is $1453/week or $75k/year, and bear in mind the aussie dollar is virtually 1/1 with the US dollar, though slightly less.

I really think it may be the best place in the world to live (for countries with English as the first language). Great weather, high income, clean cities, low crime, beautiful women.
