I think the chances of an electric car future are super overrated, baring some sort of massive leap forward in battery technology it's just not feasible economically or practically.
Hydrogen has a better chance of the new normal. Natural gas is ahead of electric too.
Hell, once you account for you electricity coming from a coal fired plant and the massive environmental costs of those batteries, a TDI is just as good environmentally and much more practical.
