Thought I'd share something the girlfriend and I love to do every time we go to Vegas. We usually pick one day to play casino golf. I'm sure some of you have heard of pub crawl golf, try to hit as many bars as you can on a 9 or 18 bar (# of holes) route. Usually the game is played by getting 1 drink and drinking it as fast as possible, with each "sip" or "gulp" being a stroke. So if the hole calls for a beer and the par is 3 for that beer, if you chug the whole thing without it ever leaving your lips, you just hit a hole in 1 on a par 3 so you're -2. Negative = good in golf obviously.

We played this way last time with friends in Vegas and didn't like it as much as the way we have done it in the past. We play that each drink at a casino is worth a different amount of strokes. This allows both of us to a) have more than 1 drink at a given casino and b) not have to sit there and slam our drink in front of a blackjack table all at once.

Both are fun but whatever, we chose our modified golf rules.


The premise:

Basically the objective is to visit 18 casinos in one long ass trek. This is the first time we're doing Fremont Street in the mix of casinos, usually we just do the strip. We've gone to Fremont a few times in the past and what we like about Fremont is the gambling is cheap and the drinks are plentiful. The overall atmosphere is just right for casino golf. Usually we would start at one end of the strip and make our way up and back.

On average 18 holes takes about 18 hours due to walking between casinos and not being able to peel my gf off the blackjack or roulette table (or vice versa). This year will probably be no different and it will be the first time we're going to take a cab between holes (from Fremont to the Strip). We've put an emphasis on dingy casinos because when you're gambling in the pit for 18 hours, losses can get ugly and cheap casinos allow for more gambool.

Anyway, just thought I'd share something different I like to do in Vegas. We've done it each of our last four visits to Vegas. We've made it 16 holes, 11 holes, and 18 holes the last 3 attempts. Can't recall if there were more prior to that.

Below is an image of the template I use. We've modified it every year, this year is a whole new version. We use one side to track games played and winnings/losses and the other side to track number of drinks. We used to do it all on one side.

Each drink correlates to a number of strokes, the stronger the drink, the lower the score. Penalties for all sorts of other stuff. Watering holes where you can't use the bathroom at certain casinos, and other holes where the leader picks drinks.

Wish us luck, we'll be doing this on Sunday the 22nd as of right now.

She does have a sister but she's taken. I stopped drinking beer two years ago to lose my beer gut and never looked back, she doesn't drink beer. Average score is hard to say sample size is small and we've tinkered with scoring each year.

depends on how hard you're looking to party, but due to walking in between casinos which can sometimes take 10-20 minutes I'd say you're more consistently drunk/buzzed than you are sloppy.. that is until the final 4 holes when you're both delirious and just plain drunk
