Tattoo's are trashy, no clue how you can even think like this. Why buy anything nice? You can just buy white t shirts and paint on them?
That's just a matter of opinion (and a particularly weird one). I don't think jewelery looks particularly nice but I'm sure most people disagree. It's still besides the point. A tattoo would also symbolize a permanent monogamous relationship (plus you can't take it off while cheating).

Also for weddings; it is a once in a lifetime event that you should remember for the rest of your life. If you and your gf/wife just want to get drunk, go for it. But if my gf has dreamed of a wedding in a castle, why not?
Again, just a matter of opinion. I'd personally prefer a more private, intimate wedding ceremony but castles are cool.

It is a matter of personal taste. But hey, I have expensive taste anyway.
You could also think about it this way. $5k is still the price of a mediocre used car. Is that what you want to project to her that she's worth? Why not go for a $25k ring while your at it. That's the whole point I guess. Will she even know how much the ring cost? And more importantly, why? Couldn't you just pick out a ring that looks great, as I'm sure there are rings for a fraction of $5k?

Yeah sure if she's so shallow that she'll love you more if you buy her a $5k ring compared to a $0.5k then go ahead. I'd also make sure to do a prenuptial agreement.

So many people are anti baller rings, because its a "waste of money". So is basically everything in life if you have that attitude.
Uhmm no, I fail to see how you could draw that conclusion.
Food, apartment, car, clothes (basics), boat, traveling, concert tickets (luxury) to name a few, are all useful things that money can buy for you and your family. An expensive ring isn't one of them.

The point of getting money is so you spend it on things which lead to happiness for you and your family, so any money spent on doing just that can't be a waste imo. What's the point of money if not that?
Agree completely. I just wouldn't want to get married to someone who needed a $5k ring to feel happiness.
Again, this.
I just think blowing $5k on a ring is extravagant. Even more so if you've watched Blood Diamond.
