So even if my opponent had AA on the flop I was still 20% on the flop to win. So calling $10 to win the rest of his stack was a profitable call. And also I was 31% on the turn and I was getting around 3.5 to one to call again making it a profitable call. So I played this hand perfectly.
Preflop: Hero is BTN with J 7
2 folds, CO raises to $2.85, Hero calls $2.85, SB folds, BB calls $1.85
Flop: ($9.05) 8 T A (3 players)
BB checks, CO bets $5, Hero calls $5, BB raises to $16, CO calls $11, Hero calls $11
Turn: ($57.05) K (3 players)
BB bets $66.26, CO calls $41.33 and is all-in, Hero calls $66.26
River: ($230.90) Q (3 players, 1 is all-in)
Spoiler:
Results: $230.90 pot ($2.80 rake)
Final Board: 8 T A K Q
Hero showed J 7 and won $228.10 ($142.99 net)
BB showed T A and lost (-$85.11 net)
CO showed 8 T and lost (-$60.18 net)
preflop: even though you have 20% equity against AA, you will often not realize your equity without putting your entire stack at risk. what you really need to consider is the odds of smashing the flop. in your case, you will outflop AA only about 4% of the time. additionally, villain's range is way weaker than AA, so he will only stack off like 10% of the time you do hit, and even then you are often behind when you stack off. even if you are always ahead when you stack off, this means you are risking 3BB to win 100BB about 0.4% of the time, a net loss of -2.6BB. so, it's a fold.
on the flop: the same logic applies here. the chance of hitting a gutshot on the turn is only about 8%. that seems okay to put in $5 to win $110 until you consider the following: firstly, sometimes BB will raise, and you will have to either risk more than $5, or fold. secondly, if a 9 comes on the turn you will lose your entire stack if someone has QJ. thirdly, sometimes you will hit and you will not get villain's entire stack. you are lighting money on fire.
on the turn: now that you've donated a bunch of your money to the pot, it's an easy stack-off since you have pot odds to call.
