Re: Bilbo's Advice from Old Dudes. Part 3: Get the **** Outta here!
Awesome OP, had it bookmarked and glad to see it bumped. I've just recently graduated college and am planning a trip to the Mediterranean and eastern asia in the coming months. maybe we should start a contact list or w/e for the recent fall 2009 grads (or anyone really) who are planning on doing some traveling in 2010.

Re: Bilbo's Advice from Old Dudes. Part 3: Get the **** Outta here!
Nice post Bilbo, I can definitely echo almost everything you've said.
Right after I graduated college I moved to the Czech Republic (then Czechoslovakia, it was 1991) and stayed for two years (and traveled all around Europe from there). One of the best decisions/experiences of my life. If I'd had the ability to make decent $$ (i.e. if I could've played online poker back then) I would have stayed even longer.
It's like life college -- I learned so much more socially/culturally in those few years than I ever could have in the bubbled stateside life I was leading.
Especially to anyone contemplating grad school: rather than jump right into it after college, take a few years off in between and live abroad, you'll be much more equipped for grad school when you come back, and will get much more out of it (especially anything liberal arts related).
Signed,
Older Dude.

Just noticed this has been bumped from over a year and a half ago. I think you're due for another pooh-bah/carpal post Bilbo; bring it back 'round to poker.

Re: Bilbo's Advice from Old Dudes. Part 3: Get the **** Outta here!
Nice post sir.
I remember when I first got pro, I moved to Australia/Europe with other grinders, this was the best decision in my life. I learned a lot, meet people that became close friends and got life experiences I would've never gotten if I stayed home.
Travel, just do it.

I live in the Czech republic and I find this statement actually offensive.
