Traveling > sitting on your (_o_) for sho. You will however miss american TV. BTW, Barcelona is really kickass and awesome nightlife. I really love that city.

Re: Bilbo's Advice from Old Dudes. Part 3: Get the **** Outta here!
great post and mirroring my thoughts exactly
we who play poker for a living are able to earn many times more money than regular people, whilst being free to do what the **** we want at any time and travel anywhere
those who aren't doing this are severly wasting their lives
my plan is to play poker for 5ish years, earn a shedload of money, and living in england 6 months a year, and travelling around the world the other 6 months of the year. (winter isn't pleasant in england )
i am 23 atm, by the time i am 30 i will have seen just about every part of the world, experienced everything i have ever wanted to do, be a rich man who could potentially live only off the property he has accumalted over the last 7 years.....
how many 30 year olds can say that nowadays

I look at poker as my "golden goose", and I definatly feel that for me it won't be around for ever. Poker is fantastic and there is not a single other job in the world that I can pick up and move to thailand, while only working 1-2 hours a day.
When we settled in Thailand there was 1 other grinder there, but 4 other houses have set up since, and when we go back in Octobre there are going to be at least 15 2p2'ers around.
I have also told myself i'm never living with non-grinders again. Before I went to thailand I lived with my parents. Regular ppl just don't understand what a downswing can do for you, or the general mindset of a grinder. Living with other grinders is sick, you have feedback on all your hands, you are around ppl who understand how sick a downswing is, and are always ready to celebrate that sick heater your gonna go on.
I'm gonna move around for as long as I can, after 6 months in Thailand i'm in Vegas for another few weeks, then 3 months in Argentina, then 5 months in Thailand, then 4 months in Hong Kong.....
There is no other job that you cna move around as much as with online poker, and it really is a fantastic opportunity. Plus there are 2p2'ers EVERWHERE, if you were to move to any place you could think of, I bet you could find a 2p2'er there who would show you around.

Re: Bilbo's Advice from Old Dudes. Part 3: Get the **** Outta here!
As long as poker's still around I'm never going to experience another winter again. There's some great advice in this thread and I really don't have much to add. Even if all your friends from home are busto and can't travel, it's much easier than it seems to just go by yourself and meet people. Plus there are 2+2ers all over the world.
Ship the ladyboys!

Re: Bilbo's Advice from Old Dudes. Part 3: Get the **** Outta here!
I like the no winter idea. However, they only specific place I know I want to go is the World Cup in South Africa.
2010 will be here before you know it, and I'm sure things need to be booked relatively soon.

Re: Bilbo's Advice from Old Dudes. Part 3: Get the **** Outta here!
Good stuff. I agree that 1 year would be awesome in another country.
During a cold weather training in the Marine Corps I got to spend some time in Harstad Norway on liberty. Just the limited time there opened up my eyes a little. Couple things from one of my trips to a mall in Norway that I found cool:
1. My friends and I were sitting at a table having some food in the mall talking about these women at a table next to us. They were talking in Norwegian and we didnt think nothing about it. Needless to say my buddies (not me of course) were crossing the line regarding their comments about their looks etc and what they would too with them, and finally one of them walks over as they were getting up to leave their table. She tells us that we ought to know before we get in trouble that English is a required 2nd language for all students in Norway. So they heard and understood every word!
2. If you are used to American beer only, you will or may need to learn to appreciate WARM beer, since its standard to have room temp beer. This took some getting used to.
3. Sure seemed easy to get a lot of attention from the ladies in Norway, and alot were quite tall!
I always wished I could go back and visit there and other countries as a civilian where we wouldnt be limited on time, however now that college has passed, married, and kids are getting older, its probably unlikely.

Yeah this is great advise. I went on a student Exchange to Prague, and it was the best thing i ever did. I was only meant to be there for 1 semester. But i decided to take another semester off uni and just rent a place in prague and travel around Europe.
Best experience of my life.

Only went to Belgium once, to Brussels. It was a convention and I didn't get out much. But here in Seattle there's a Belgian pub called Brauwer's. And I've been a few times.
Belgian beer is weird. It's syrupy and thick and has a lot of similarity with port wine, of all things. Not my cup o' tea, although many like it.

I travelled all around Europe and Czech beer was the best!!! There was one polish beer that was really good too.
