variance is influenced by winrate and standard deviation and in the end also by number of hands you want to compare. very generalized PLO has a higher std. deviation and also can have higher winrates. but this is of course very play-style- and player-depended and also varies a lot depending on the game (HU, 6max...). you can play around with some numbers if you google poker variance calculator and put in your values in both games. from my experience i can tell you that PLO variance can hurt your feelings.
